Good to see that Sony have realised the importance of these points and are laying down the ground rules for developers.
PS VR demos being shown off at GDC:
- EVE Valkyrie
- Thief (SQUARE ENIX Co., LTD.)
- The Castle (SCE) (shows various VR interactions utilizing PS Move)
- The Deep (SCE) (where players can observe the waters from inside a shark proof cage)
It will probably never make it to market, but oh boy, do I ever want something like this (for years!)
wtf is with that light bulb and Sony. I am seeing that shit ever since they announced Move controller. and now even in PS4 controller. I know the purpose of it, but are you saying there is no better way to track your moment without that shitty light bulb? Wii and Xbox Controller seems to be doing it just fine.

Look up the price of one of those and think if any real group of people actually bought them for PC gaming.
Sounds awesome, but considering it includes a 3D audio system I'm pretty sure it won''t be that cheap...
Neither of those controllers can do 3d positional tracking...so not really.
Ohh, did not know that.
I doubt Sony is going to toss 60 Million at a game made for VR, that is a ton of money and this VR system is not going to have the same market share as the PS4 (so it is going to be much harder to reach all the sales they need to cover costs).
Oculus was saying it wasn't possible with PS4 tech. Obviously that's not true.
http://www.engadget.com/2013/03/19/oculus-rift-could-work-on-current-and-next-gen-consoles/Oculus VR CEO Brendan Iribe responded to the comments, saying it would "be awesome" to be compatible with consoles, adding that it would technically be possible.
"We'd definitely love to work with the console manufactures as we go down the road to get the Rift onto those platforms."
WTF...They're saying VR is a medium yet haven't announce support for PC or any other device?
It's like announcing DVDs and being the only one able to use it...
Actually it's worse, if this is a medium like a book, TV, and such then does it make any sense to go against a standard or not form a group to start some? Feels like they are looking for another format war type deal.
It doesn't change that it was introduced before OR, in 2011, and people played games with it.
Comments like this baffle me. They hold an event to reveal this prototype to the world. They've got working demos for people to use tomorrow. They're going to try and make a big push behind this...
... but it will probably never make it to market?
You've completely lost me on you reached that conclusion.
I'm starting to get excited about VR.
Imagine something similar to Metroid Prime, with the UI incorporated into the visor, and aiming with the PS Move.
Kinect can easily do 3D tracking.
damn playstation fucking planned this generation well ahead. gddr5, gaikai, vr.
this is the future, folks.
That was also my feat but according to their presentation, I think Sony fully understands what is required for a good VR experience and I'm confident that they will take their time and release a very capable product.
What are you talking about?
Video games are a medium too, PS4 games don't play on PC.
Is Rift announced for PS4?
Those type of comments are normally from PC elitist, that mostly want to look down their noses at consoles while standing on top of their overly expensive gpu's.
Wat? The specifications mention that the headset will include a surround sound like setup.PS4 is the 3D audio system.
The tech involved in the OR and Morpheus with VR is completely different from those devices. They have almost nothing in common besides having a screen.

Did you miss the part where I said controller and not body? And yes, it can do 3d tracking...at 30hz minimum.
So my question is does this have to be 60fps to even work or will a lower frame rate just be a worse experience like it is with a TV/Monitor?
I don't think the whole 'me too' debate is going to be of any value, VR has been iterative for decades, Sony shipped a VR unit on PS2, and Luckey has the worlds largest private VR headset collection. They could have both been making this at the same time, and we're never going to know for sure how this came about.
Peace and love.
VR is a medium, Morpheus is a device to experience that medium, as video games are a medium, and PS4 is a device to experience them. They said medium and I took that to mean books, TV, and now these HMDs.
I can read any book pretty much anywhere. I can watch whatever I want on my TV.
Will I be able to plug in any electronic device that outputs a VR video signal and have it work on my Sony VR headset? I'm not taking processing power, just that the device is outputting the necessary signal, whatever that is.

unsure of what the going rate is for VR these days, but i'd throw down 200 for this piece of beauty. would go great with vita.
Poor mans Rift, its freaking Move on your head
If this isnt below $100 its a flop
Addons dont sell, look at Move

VR was a path I always saw Nintendo taking. Shame Sony stole their thunder before they get to do anything. The contrast between the two companies initiatives is surreal.
This Sony VR is gonna skip the PS4, mark my words. This is gonna be delivered with the PS5.
FUDstations at the ready!Nahh, If Sony deliver their VR device during PS4 cycle I only expect games like Flower.
