Super Smash Bros. for 3DS Summer 2014, Wii U Winter 2014

I'm gonna err on the positive side and predict that we're getting Wii U Smash this year. Yeah I know, delays blah blah blah, but the game just looks too far along in development to me for a delay.

Honestly I'm sticking with my probably-too-positive prediction of:
July = Bayonetta 2
August = NFC game, most likely Pokemon-related
September = Hyrule Warriors
October = Yarn Yoshi or some new platformer revealed at E3 with Yarn Yoshi now being vaporware
November = Smash
December = X

You all are delusional if you think X or Bayo will release this year, let alone this Summer.

After Kart 8 we have jack and shit.

There's a pretty good chance X won't be releasing this year, but are you basing the Bayonetta 2 claim on anything in particular?

In any case, I'm personally a fan of this release schedule. It's not at all a given that releasing the Wii U version first would have had a tangible benefit to sales, whereas doing so would have likely required unnecessarily delaying the 3DS version. Since the latter is releasing sooner, right now the emphasis is on the unique features it brings to the table, but soon enough we'll hear how the Wii U version distinguishes itself, along with whatever benefits there will be to picking up both.

Most importantly, the Wii U's performance during the holiday season will be key. This puts SSB in the Wii U's holiday lineup, and I'm sure that will be a big driver of Nintendo's marketing efforts around that time.

Lol I like how you assume;

1) We've seen half of the content in the game
2) You completely ignore the disclaimer that "This game is still in development"

Why is it wrong to be frustrated with this delay when we know for a fact that the characters, assist trophies and items will be complete? These are the things that will probably take the most time and they'll be done months in advance of the Wii U release. Chances are they'll also share trophies. The only major difference between them will be the stages and a few game modes, and because there won't be a sub-space replacement those should take so long to develop.

" Buy a $300 Wii U for Smash Bros.?"

"Can't I get portable 3D system + SSB with no glasses required for less money while getting the "same amount of content.""

That said I'm getting it on both because I'm a huge Smash weeb. If this was PSABR on the other hand...

Bayo 2 is definetly this year, how much longer can it take to get a hack n slash game out? X I agree, it's a huge game, +50 hours long rpg, it also had no actual show floor footage, unlike Bayo 2.

Predicted Wii U line up for 2014:

May: MK8
Summer: Dynasty Warrior Zelda
Fall: Sonic Boom
November/December: Smash Bros, Bayo 2
X: Spring 2015

The article i first quoted actually said winter for wii party, and ended up as October, maybe it was article wording not Nintendo however but don't think so.

Game was still released digitally, and in that Wikipedia link i gave retail release in EU and Australia was early December

you can disagree, but sorry your a bit wrong here in my opinion as the facts show that they consider winter to be before December as well

The article you quoted got its information from the Nintendo Direct. Here is a screenshot of said direct. So again, I disagree that that is really proof of anything.

Aww last gen programming is hard! .....for a team that took a 6 year break from cutting edge coding. Welcome to 2008 Nintendo!
You say that as if a team that had spent the past six years making games for the other consoles - consoles that during that six year period never saw any improvement in hardware - would be a team performing "cutting edge coding".

DKCR 3d - DKC:TF
SM3DL - SM3DW

There is a reason why none of these, although really great games, proved not to be really huge system sellers for Wii U (maybe NSMBU but combined also with the launch semi-hype) and didn't provide any momentum for the hardware past several launching week. Now, let's do the same thing and expect different results. SSB4 3ds - SSB 4 Wii U.

Again, at list MK8 is on a totally different level than anything before in the series and compared to the existing games on Wii U.

Zelda Musou. Hot shit man. Nobody asked for that. Not even the seven people in the world that play Dynasty Warriors.

All that Nintendo frustration. I totally get it now. And I'm not even a diehard Smash fan like you guys. I just wanted something I knew would be fun to play between June and September. Fuckin blows dude.

hahaha. Well at least we got Mario Kart.

Yeah theres no way i'm buying the dynasty warriors game lol.

Why does both versions have the same characters. Better modes should be available on the wii u

Sakurai for CEO please. #IwataOut

I think Sakurai has all the "values" that I wata has. Sadly he declined a chance at higher power, in a different field however. I think Sakurai would be a great Nintendo CEO with
absolutely no regard of
his will of course.

Well all I have to say is that Nintendo better have something ready for Wii U come November, because "Winter 2014" sounds a lot like February 2015 to me. Zelda better be further along than we think. :mad:

Otherwise, a cool direct with lots of great info on Smash Bros.

Yep yep yep. Sucks all the hype out of the picture. I don't mean smash fans won't be hyped - of course they will - but there's a big difference for the mass audience in "the first smash bros in years, now on Wii U!" And "finally the game we released a few months ago on 3ds, now on Wii u!" How long until people who don't know better/trolls start calling the Wii U version a 3ds port, the same way people dogged on 3d world?

OK fine so it was an article where the article writer misread something or made there own assumptions, still doesn't explain the Wii Fit U release, which was November and December and only January in JP/US for physical versions, with digital versions already being out in those regions.

Hence my assumption that Nintendo basically ignore fall/autumn and just class it as winter.

This is also with Iwatas saying that smash bros is a 2014 game as well. I understand skepticism as its Nintendo and I'm sure they will screw it up somehow, no matter how much I like them. But with multiple points of evidence pointing to 2014 being the aimed release year, with evidence to back this up I'm inclined to think that they mean winter months as in November/December unless we hear it very specifically otherwise.

Are they releasing the WiiU version later because they are afraid that the WiiU version looks just as good as the 3DS version?

I was not prepared to get the 3ds version at all. Now I have to get both. You had one job Sakurai, one job.

Yes he did, he made you buy two games instead of one ;)
HUGE SUCCEEDED!

Fucker is getting me to buy both as well. DAMN YOU SAKURAI!!

What a strange decision. How well is the Smash franchise received in Japan? Do they just want to cash in on the japanese market as soon as possible and don't care about the cannibalizing effect it will have on the Wii U version?

The OP and edit by Nirolak is also gold :)

Like I said in another post I made in the thread, I personally believe that the game will be out in 2014. However, the wording of Winter 2014 does not exclude a release of January or February 2015, and Nintendo is known for pushing back games. I was just trying to get that point across. Tropical Freeze was supposed to be out in 2013 was it not? And yet it came out in 2014.

4 for Wii U (5 actually, because it looks gorgeous), 2 for 3ds (including the early release). Is it worth $300?

Paying 300 for a single game is pretty ridiculous anyways. The fact that the 3DS releasing earlier is justification for NOT pay 300 in order to play Smash bros on the Wii U proves so. If your decision to buy a Wii U is hindered so easily...

"Winter" is a nightmare. "Winter 2014" is better, but winter begins 12/21. That said, a 6 month gap between versions is pretty much the only way I'd get adequate playtime out of the 3DS version, Super Cramp Bros. Is my Circle Pad XL Pro pretty much the only way to increase the comfort and ergonomics on my XL?

Collectible trophies,stages, and a equivalent of Smash Run, (as there are similar content across both.) Not enough to convince a casual player from 3DS imo.

Controls.

If I understand correctly music presentation is a big one too, right? Doesn't Sakurai's 3DS 2 per stage vs WiiU music library feature mean a much larger quantity of music in general for the U version? Superior music presentation means a lot to me especially with all the ear candy in smash.

I wish I understood the point of roster parity, Wii U really needs to differentiate itself from the 3DS version. Not just with better graphics and different stages.

It's coming out what, a minimum of 3 months or so later than the 3DS version, and Wii U roster has to be held back by the limitations of the 3DS?

axisofweevils

Holy crap! Today's real megaton is that more than two people can have the same first name.
Very happy with this. I never thought I'd be playing any version of Smash as soon as Summer, and the 3DS does need help too - its 2014 line up was looking pretty barren.

It's gonna be weird that there will be millions of people playing a new smash bros game and I'm just gonna be twiddling my thumbs on the sidelines...

I have a Wii U since launch and I enjoy it a lot. I'm not shitting on the Wii U. That's beside the point. I'm just amazed how they missed such a good opportunity to have MK8 and SSB4 together to push the console. I'm amazed how in April we have only confirmations for MK8 in May and SSB4 in Winter 2014 (whatever that means).

And about paying 300 for a single game, when there is 1 game released at 2-3 months distance, practically the Wii U proposition is always about paying 300 for a single game (because it's obvious that the previous games didn't convince you enough).

Honestly if I wasn't such a Nintendo fan I wouldn't have got the Wii U. When I think I invested the same amount of money getting a Wii U + 2 games as I would buying a X1/upgrading my PC a year early, I don't honestly think my money was well spent on the system. My personal opinion, but I have yet to play a game on the system that has "wow-ed" me, whereas I already own 3 games on PS4 that have within the short time of its release. Same goes for casuals too, they're not going to buy a Wii U just for a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT version of Smash.
Not the same game, not the same content.

I'm not paying that much for TWO WHOLE DIFFERENT GAMES, and I'm not waiting 4 months looking at people around me playing NOT THE SAME GAME I'm waiting for.
Man, I need to do this when people are overtly politically correct.

Yeah I thought there was a real opportunity for some momentum with MK8+Smash and maybe a price cut down to $250.
