Watch Dogs will arrive on Wii U in Fall 2014

Update:

We’ve reached out to a Ubisoft representative for a confirmation and were told that the game is indeed targeting a Fall 2014 release date.

Watch Dogs May Arrive on Wii U Sooner Than Expected

Ubisoft’s store pegs the Wii U version for this Fall

Watch Dogs is launching May 27th on all targeted platforms except for on Wii U, that version has been pushed back to a later date in 2014 to give their studio in Bucharest “time to explore the GamePad and be able to have fun with it and see how far they could push it.” While Ubisoft is still one of the few third party developers supporting the Wii U this year, calling it “an interesting platform” with “its own strength” that they’d like to take advantage of, that didn’t stop fans from blowing up the comment section on Ubisoft’s blog article on why the game was delayed.

Now, while unconfirmed by the publisher, Ubisoft’s North American Uplay store (via) is says the game is targeting a Fall 2014 release window for the Wii U system. The European Uplay store still lists the Wii U version for May 27 along with the rest of the targeted platforms, but that is more than likely an error.

Would you settle for a Fall release date? Share you thoughts below.

No thanks Ubisoft. Maybe if it's discounted, considering that the other versions will be pretty cheap by then.

Remember when they delayed Rayman on the Wii U so it could launch simultaneously on every platform?

Yeah...

I'm not buying it for any plataform, but it's kinda shitty how they moved Rayman and now they are moving Watch Dogs. At least they are supporting the system, I guess.

I was intending to buy the Wii U version, but no, that's too late. Getting it for pc instead. Just kill it, Ubi, you may as well.

I still feel like it's set for indefinite hold. Although if they are going through with it taking the time to integrate second screen functionality into the Gamepad directly would be the way to go and probably better than a simultaneous release without it.

If Ubisoft Bucharest gives us exclusive missions, Mario's kart as one of the vehicles and strong gamepad specific features, I will gave them my $60.

They'd never do that to relevant platforms though. They don't want to piss off PS4/XB1 owners especially.

Pissing off a fanbase is not exclusive to PS4/X1.

When they pissed off the Wii U fanbase over Rayman, that didn't go over well either.

As someone that is currently hyped as fuck for a port of Borderlands 2, it seems weird to see people crushed over a six month delay. If the games good, it'll still be good in six months.

I planned on doing the same until they released the PC requirements. I'll take the Wii U version even if it's a little late, thanks.

Borderlands 2 on Vita brings portability and comes with DLC though, so there is reason to be excited for it. This will just be the same game but expensive, late and probably worse than the other versions.

I can believe it. With Kart and Smash at least some Wii U's will be sold. I doubt they'll put have any other games coming to Wii U like AC so this allows them to have a release on the platform in time for the holidays.

If it comes with all the DLC I'll probably pick it up closer to launch.

I'm still not sold that the game would be worth getting on any system regardless of when it launches. If it gets good reviews I might be upset for the Wii U then but I'm not holding my breath.

Yea, but it was already a fanbase that didn't really support Ubi games despite Ubi showing a ton of support early on. Ubisoft even put out an exclusive launch title, among other titles at launch, and still got shat on by the Wii U fanbase. They were probably just returning the favor.

What I'm saying is, ZombiU deserved better sales.

There's two sides to every coin, it also deserved better marketing.

If there's something unique about the features with the gamePad, or if they pack in DLC (which I'm guessing they'll have out by then), then yeah, I'd be decently excited. But this will probably be the exact same game as the other platforms, launching 4-6 months after the others, and will probably be $60 when the others will release $40 or below.

I'm not particularly mad at Ubi, since I assume they are just taking the Wii U version as a sunk cost in development. If they delayed the other games to give launch day parity, that's just elongating development time and costs for a platform that they'd be lucky to hit 10K sales on. So they delayed it, probably assuming there wouldn't be many sales anyway, and will take any Wii U sales they get as a win.

Still, it sucks. Especially because this will be similar to Rayman Legends. I still think they should've pushed out the Wii U game in February and develop the ports to release later. The install base was starved for games and probably would've bought it. I was going to buy a Wii U for Rayman, but they delayed it. Then it launched within weeks of GTA V and all the other platformers/big budget games in the fall and got buried. Now I still don't have Rayman, because I had other games that I wanted to buy instead. Pushing Watch_Dogs to the fall for Wii U is just going to make it get buried in Fall titles again.

What are you talking about?

Zombi U was a new IP(Yes I know there was an original) in a niche genre. Although ZombiU was great it was lacking features that other games have with zero hype and marketing behind it.

I really loved Zombi U and I hope for a new one but come on, Zombi U on any other platform probably wouldn't have done much better.

Plus Rayman sold best on the Wii U.
