Now that I've watched all the shows I planned on checking out this season, time for ranking wars!

Great
Ping Pong
Mushishi
Haikyu!

Good
Knights of Sidonia
Jojo Stardust Crusaders
Captain Earth

Not Bad
Chaika
One Week Friends

Fucking Dropped
Black Bullet

firehawk12

Subete no aware
Haikyuu-1

I'm not sure whether I liked this or not. I just couldn't dreg up any emotions for this. After seeing Ping Pong, this felt really flat.
The problem with Haikyuu and Ping Pong is that they're just standard. That isn't necessarily bad, but they don't feel like they aim to reveal anything particularly interesting about being a high school athlete or playing a sport.

Mekaku City Actors 1

What the hell did I just watch? I went into this blind other than knowing it was Shaft, and it was certainly all the Shaft I could want and more, but I have no idea where this is going.

The World is Still Beautiful 2

Does this cover the original one-shot? It certainly feels like more of a self-contained story than most early anime episodes. The world, setting, and politics feel pretty shallow and like window dressing for the characters, but that will work fine if they can keep the character dynamics as interesting as it is here. I take it this is a one cour show, I hope there is a good place to end this after 13 episodes.

Its more or less now at the end of chapter 1 of the current series. Didn't actually know there was a one shot.

hmmm did this series always have anime adaptations or is this the first?

Seems ok, a bit budget but the show feels 'pleasant'.

why does she have a tail though? is it decoration or she a BEAST.
I certainly don't recall an Iris adaption, but it wouldn't surprise me if there was some OVA or whatever at some point, we ARE talking about a nearly two decade old series here.

... I wonder if it'll be picked up by anyone for streaming or if it'll be fansubs and maybe a retail release later.

One Week Friends - Episode 1

So this is basically Soldier of the Mist reimagined as a high school anime series with a moe Latro? The corny premise aside, it's actually pretty cute. The backgrounds are really nice, there's a nice color palette, and I like the linework on the character art. Not sure how the series will keep itself interesting, but I'll stick with it for now. Akemi Hayashi did the ED too! Yay~

The next step for Brains Base is clearly to actually adapt Soldier of the Mist! :p

'Moe Latro' aside, this was a very sexy sentence. Gotta watch this...

Still The World is Beautiful 2
Looks to be a sleeper hit. The rain summoning sequence was pretty good. The characters although interesting seem a little flat.

As in, the MC is perfect, or the adventure?
I don't know about the adventure, but the MC couldn't be much more perfect than he is.

Record of Lodoss War 11

Kinda sorta getting the band back together as Deedlit gets downgraded to damsel in distress. Unsure how to feel about this as she's been one of the stronger characters so far so torn between it being said downgrade or a case where friends have to get together to pick up the slack left behind.
Female character? Damsel in distress! Yeah, it's pretty annoying. Lodoss is okay, but I've never loved it... which is probably why I actually found the TV series (Chronicles of the Heroic Knight) okay -- my expectations were low going in.

Here's hoping Lodoss TV doesn't let me down!
The series is okay, but those "Welcome to Lodoss Island" comedy bits at the end can be pretty great, yeah! Fun stuff.

Everything that isn't the OP or the Chibi Omakes.
In my opinion, anyone who says this is quite definitely overrating the quality of the Lodoss OVA series. For me, Lodoss TV wasn't much of a step down at all, quality-wise. Of course, I never loved it in the first place. It's kind of fun, but nothing great...

I'm actually referring to a fanfiction, in which a 11-year-old Harry revolutionizes magic by applying the scientific method (vaguely). And yes, he's completely broken, so much so that they had to make the invincible villain from the original even more broken.
Ah, I see. That's kind of like some elements of Mahouka then, but perhaps not the (very major) discrimination one?

I don't think this is very spoilery, but I'll block it out anyhow.

Angel Beats END -
Alright, finished this up, and I guess I'm of two minds. The idea of a high school limbo where students with unfulfilled lives go isn't bad in theory, but I feel they really kind of muck it up with the whole "War Against God" thing. I think they could have still given the impression of a rebellious group of students without the gratuitous violence. It also just becomes so convoluted and makes so little sense. Also the 13 episode limitation means that half the group has basically zero background development and makes it hard to care about those characters at all. I mean, for as important as Yuri is to the story, the show completely glosses over the events of her death. Only the vague moment when she denies it was suicide. I think that kind of information would have been important for her character. By comparison, every character in Little Busters gets at least an episode or two and is much better for it.
Overall, not terrible, but a constant feeling of "they could have handled this better."
Yeah, the lack of an explanation for how Yuri died was kind of frustrating. I don't know if the manga(s) fill that in, though.
Otherwise, though, it was a great ending for a great show!

As for the "war against God" thing, I think that was a fine idea -- they're teenagers, and teenagers with tragic histories, so they're being rebellious. How does that not make sense? I think it does. That's basically what that "war" means anyway, rebellion against authority. The basic idea of the series was to have a series with action, comedy, AND Key drama all in one thing... and it worked!

Sakura Trick - 12
It's over for me , for this episode i had a ample amount of jealousy , cuteness , pureness and just anything sakura trick , really.

Right now i'm not sure how we would handle a S2 if it happens since mitsuki-sempai is gone and the casting seem quite , how should i say this ? Thin ?
Maybe a school trip ? The bases for more are certainly there since we have the new student president and plenty of special things to do since there are A LOT OF EMPTY CLASSROOMS and most of the sub plot are still open.
GIven how badly the series seems to be selling in Japan, I doubt that we will have to be thinking about that much, even with Sakura Trick's obviously very low budget... sad but true, Japan rarely has good taste.

Well, it is Japan after all. :p
True... and would better Japanese writers really bothering with writing LNs or anime? I doubt it!

yeah i noticed, but it seems to 'emote' lol.

I really should get around to playing one of these games, the art is soo good, but the focus of the games are the things i hate the most about in all games >.<
Well, the next game seemingly drops the time management aspects, so if that's what you mean rather than just crafting maybe you'll be OK!

Or go dig up Iris on PS2 since those were closer to typical JRPGs. I found the first one kind of dull though and avoided the rest as a result, I think Gust is probably better off with the novel gameplay approach than trying to make a typical JRPG, that's better for some of the other veterans out there.

This was adapted from the chapter that was originally a one-shot, yeah? It feels like it.

Nice episode. The political machinations of this show feel kind of shallow and uninteresting so far. Hope they don't get too much in the way of our characters. I like both of them. Nike is a fun protagonist as in the first episode, and the king is a brat. But he showed a good side in this episode so he'll probably reform. Ending sequence was quite nice.

Actually upon looking at things a little more closely, she might have just ended up that way due the the anime original ending to tie up the OVAs loose ends. Thought I read it borrowed elements from the third and fourth novel to help close it out but unsure if that was taken.

I was scrubbing through the eps just to see what was what and laughing at those.

Ive never seen that. Kind of reminds me of Android Announcer Maico. You should watch that by the way.

Maico is Japan's newest radio DJ. When she is not working she must stave off assassins, crazed fans and a couple of office workers as well. She believes she was created just to be the perfect DJ. What she does not know is that she is really a sexdroid — a robot specifically designed for sexual intercourse

Matsutaro King of Shitsters - Episode 2

ke0FyKg.jpg

No, I don't think so.

Not only was I robbed of the potentially entertaining prison arc where he could have been beaten and abused while in jail, but I was subjected to yet another 20 minutes of the Dicklord King's adventures in dickery. He continues to be irresponsible, repulsive, abusive, rude, and just an all round piece of dogshit unworthy of being called a human being. While the end of the episode did put a smile on my face, it doesn't seem like he died from his injuries, which is a pity because he doesn't deserve to live on this planet.

I hate Matsutaro, but somehow I don't think I can stop watching this just yet. I need to know where this leads. I need to know if he will suffer further for his own terrible actions. Maybe I just want to see him get beaten so badly he dies. It seems unlikely given that he is the title character in the series. But... I can't stop. There's something morbidly curious about how over the top this show is in having a protagonist who is such a piece of garbage!

Pocket Monsters X/Y Special - The Strongest Mega Evolution Act 1

Oh sure, the NPCs get to have an earring and a necktie as their mega stone holder whatever while you get stuck with a crappy ugly bracelet.

Well a special showcasing all the new and special forms I never actually used in the game since none of the new Pokemon actually got a form so whatever I guess. The plot is pretty meh, guy fights other trainers and both show off their environmental destructive mega forms to each other. And I guess throw in some teach a new trainer how to catch and battle.

It did look pretty nice though, which I guess was the main draw of this special. The battles looked great, now choreography, nice effects of all the moves, everything looked great.

And thankfully, Siebold was as fabulous as he should be.

That sumo anime is confusing because I genuinely can't think why somebody would make such an unlikable main character. Like he has no redeeming qualities. Why? Is this the creator trolling people into thinking he'll get better but he never does?

its a cute show. There isnt a whole lot of fanservice to speak of. Really old though.
and by the way you didnt read far enough
"
The anime version differs from the manga, with less sexual themes, and no crime fighting involved. Also, there is no mention of her being a sexdroid, and Rei is never introduced."

Ugh all of the anime I watched today wasn't enough to wash the bad taste of that dragon riding anime. I need a drink.

I'm just curious because, you seemed to have watched the first episode of that series and, despite that, did you still have some hope that the second would be better somehow? I lasted about 6 minutes into the first episode before I had to turn it off.

I'm surprised you even watched it given it's premise. From what I've seen, it's exactly what you'd expect a harem anime starring an anthropomorphized loli dragon to be.

Well, without an OT telling me what shows are about or any key art I like to spin the wheel of fortune from time to time.

Does the battle works like the regular anime or is it more engaging?
Also, Siebold definitely deserved the attention. He is the most fabulous guy after HGSS!Morty and Steven after all.

I've made some bad choices as well. Some of the bad shows this season are so bad that they had left a sour taste in my mouth. Now that I've narrowed down my viewing list I feel so much better about this season.

Nanana's Buried Treasure 1

This was my most anticipated show of the season and I thought the first episode was great. Definitely looking forward to more of this!

Shitoge is shit! Shiiiiiiiiit!

Nisekoi - 14

It wasn't until this scene that I
recognized Marie's potential as best girl. Sadly Onodera did jack squat this episode aside from her terrible attempt at stalking Raku and Marie, even letting Shitoge outperform her causing my girl to lose a great deal of points in the rankings.

If
Marie continues to act like she did in the last 3 minutes, I'd be willing to drop my Onodera banner and support her cause
.

If you hadn't placed you faith in worst-girl you wouldn't be left disappointed. But it was inevitable.

Well it's the same as how the anime usually is, call out attacks, do attacks, cool special effects. For this special they basically just up the level of special effects so it really just looks a lot cooler. And more environmental damage too. We have moves where you have to zoom out to the forest to see how much destruction it is causing.

For example:

So basically what you're saying is that not having an OT will make people try out shows they wouldn't normally have tried in the first place?

We should do this more often!

Being dicklord can't put many people offs but it also have great offset like you said: it promise change which may intrigue some people whether he will change or not. From author perspective, it's pretty hard to write a dicklord than nice mcguy (unless the author is total dick but this one authored by the one who make Ashita No Joe right?). That and duckroll funny impression really make me interested.

It'd also prevent the atmosphere from getting toxic when too many people watch shit shows by accident and get soured about the state of animation in Japan!
