Had no idea.

What other shows are part of this?

Here's sonicjm1's schedule post:

Just a quick reminder: Monday marks the beginning of another backlog season, because why not. I, along with anyone else who wants to participate, will be watching one or more of the following shows each week, one episode at a time.

The schedule is:

Monday: Spice and Wolf
Tuesday: Patlabor Movies
Wednesday: Kino's Journey
Thursday: Crest of the Stars
Friday: The Daily Lives of High School Boys

If you're interested in any of these anime, feel free to join in!

Another 15 pages in just a day? Dang guys.

Been super busy. Job search hasn't been going my way so I have just been applying all day everyday. Haven't had time to watch any anime. :,(

But at least at the end of the day I can skim through 15 pages of AnimeGAF of people telling each other their favorite anime is crap. It's the highlight of my day. Never stop doing what you do AnimeGAF.

Ah, I was wondering where you were! Welcome back!

Godot doesn't approve of this logic.

Clannad 7

I realize this is early on in a 50 episode series to be making these comments, so take it with as big a grain of salt as you can when I say that thus far I'm not really all that into this show. I haven't really clicked with it, and I think that's because the way I'm seeing it so far, it feels rather, well, generic? Basic? Not unique? Maybe I've just seen too many high school comedy animes at this point, but the gags feel flat and stale, and I feel nothing when the emotional scenes play. I'm not sure if its that I feel there's a lack of a hook, or if the execution doesn't appeal, or if it's neither of these things and I myself and am just out of sync with this show. I grant that with 43 episodes left that doesn't mean much, but it is how things stand presently.

On a more positive note, I do think that the idea of compounding the girl being forgotten atop her already being not actually there is a good touch on things, and if that's executed well it'll go a long way toward improving this arc in my eyes. Too much of this episode was cockroach girl crying over things I guess I should have felt something about but really did not.

Don't worry Corvo, it'll all get better in After Story.

Clannad 1 is generic high school trash.

Clannad 2 is a beautiful love story that made me unable to enjoy any other high school romance. (Though we'll see how Toradora holds up in that regard when I get to it).

So in this episode we have possible yuri (between background characters), cross-dressing
speculation
, Karaoke with ACTUAL SINGING (looking at you, One Week Friends!), and the cruelest little girl. Also came dangerously close to a SHAFT head tilt.

Really enjoying this show, it just doesn't lend itself well to giving impressions.

While the goals are just to not be beaten and to eventually become gods - and they're currently the King, which as Sir Patrick Stewart tells us, is a good thing to be - Sora and Shiro are still likable for me by a combination of factors. One is that there's two of them, with Shiro providing the balancing factor to keep Sora's modesty in check. The other is that Sora's pledge of weakness as strength and his initial problems with public speaking (and his petty insistence on challenging Shiro for the kingship) continue to paint him as the kind of huge dork who I like to have a protagonist, while providing enough "cool" for everyone else. That speech about weakness was almost kind of inspiring. And Tet/Kugyuu provides some interesting ideas as well. It feels, once again, like we've reached the end of the first novel.

Now, I know that Yukarin was cast as one of the Flugel, and I can't wait for her to join the cast.

[Hunter x Hunter] - 117

Between the start of episode 111 and the end of episode 117 five minutes have passed.

Five.

The narrator confirmed it. The narrator, who used to be a barely present voice in the story and who now narrates after every single minute action is undertaken. That narrator.

I feel like you should be posting some of this in the HxH OT so Evilore doesn't feel so alone.

Spoilers, bro. Between now and 127 someone might have walked across a room or something. I don't wanna be spoiled on that deep stuff.

I don't think Evilore is alone in his feelings. It's been my impression that the majority of people dislike the Chimera Ant arc and the people who still think Hunter X Hunter is a good series are in the minority.

So is Frieza the narrator or something?

So are we talking about DBZ levels of plot stretching?

Well no, not exactly. In DBZ IIRC for the most part there was only one fight going on for a loooong time.

In HxH, things are certainly happening, but it's happening so fast that the show feels like it needs to slow down and explain every single detail of what's going on. And it's not just one fight. There's a bunch of other things going on at once at the same time.

Not really. The majority of people find a small 10-15 episode stretch of episodes poorly paced, but few outright dislike the arc. In fact, Jex is the first person I've seen say the early sections of the arc are poorly paced.

At least in the OT, there are still more positive impressions than negative, and it's not like activity has dropped in there. Overall, I'd say the arc is mixed with more likes than dislikes.

Anohana 6

I really am at a loss here.
Menma not wanting her mom to remember her, so that she doesn't have to suffer?
That's just such an alien concept to me, I really can't relate.
I can understand her not wanting her mom to suffer, but to want her to forget is just too extreme. The empty room was heartbreaking enough.

Anaru's subplot was much more interesting, however, and is something I haven't seen much in anime.

So it's like Kaiji pachinko where multiple balls are travelling at the same time?

I wouldn't really compare it to Fukumoto Pacing™. In HxH, stuff is still happening all the time. 5 minutes may have passed, but we've gotten hours of content with all the perspective shifting.

How effective that is is another story.

So is Frieza the narrator or something?

Heh.

In DBZ it was pure padding and losing time. In HxH, there are ~15 people to follow around a lot can happen in only five minutes because lots of them are fighting at high speeds.

edit: 20, counting all he secondary characters. Gon, Killua, Knov, Morel, Shoot, Knuckle, Meleoron, Ikalgo, Netero, Pouf, Yupi, Pitou, Meruem, Wolfie, Claws, moe Nen remover ant, human secretary, Killua's gramps, Palm, cheetah.

been listening to all the precure henshin musics on repeat for no apparent reason my commute. It's fascinating how there is a definite 'template' used, for at least the more recent ones, in which you can pretty much match one season's footage with another's music pretty much in sync.

man im bored.

Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood 1-10

Definitely feels like they are rushing through the material that was covered by the previous anime iteration. Kinda shocked that
Tucker already bites the dust, as he played much bigger role in the previous version.
Love the OP and especially the ED.

Some of the events ended up making me feel it really is best to dig into Brotherhood after watching the original (well, Conqueror of Shambala can be skipped) just to be surprised at some of the changes that happened.

Kenichi OVAs 8-9
So Takeda getting a master arc and the Underground Fighting arc. I wonder if they'll actually decide to make a new season for the show.

Chaika 04

Wasn't expecting more than one dragon girl this season. Much less one who's
also a cat
. Chaika continues to be as adorable as ever. Akari's ability to conjure up a backstory out of nowhere is something. And since she has Chiwa Saito's voice, Fredrica could be rising up to be my second favorite member of the cast.

It comes and goes. The highs are pretty high but it's extremely flabby on the whole.

You haven't reached the real highs yet, though.

But yeah, I can see how the pacing of this arc may be a problem for some people. I loved it personally, and definitely wouldn't compare it to DBZ, since there's a lot of stuff going on at the same time, and it's definitely moving. It just sets out to achieve a certain type of heavy atmosphere, and I'd say it largely succeeds.
