Its far more effective at portraying Spider-man/Peter Parker as he is in the comics than SM2 was. I'm a raimi fan but Maguire fucking ruined the films.
Watched it yesterday. As someone who really liked the first one for its fun and upbeat nature I Really didn't like this one, Very long and overdrawn movie with a lot of ansgty and melodramatic section that went exactly the opposite direction of what I was anticipated. The CG was really poor which actually quite surprised me.

In the theater, when we got it in the mail the manager on duty put it in the wrong spot, I just found it today.

True, but I think if Spider-Man 2 released today it wouldn't be rated as higha s it was back then, standards change.
Just needs flashier CG. Honestly that's all I'm seeing ASM2 for now at this point.

We've had ours up for a couple of months now, so that's pretty funny you just found it. The day of release.
I just watched The Amazing Spider-Man 1 today, it was better than I thought when I saw it opening day in theaters. Maybe because I already knew the villain would be lame, but I appreciated Garfield/Spider-Man alot more than I had before.

I think it does make sense, and this is from someone who detested the first movie. I enjoyed TASM2 mildly, but that's only because it was a much dumber film. TASM is better constructed but is overall just criminally boring for me to watch. The former feels like it embraces some comic book sensibilities more and as such has some far more enjoyable set pieces but it's overburdened by a plethora of multiple plot threads and a convoluted narrative that has way too much going on. The latter is comparatively safer and simple in comparison, even with the promise of an "untold origin" since it pretty much forgets that.

Yeah I do maintenance and inventory at the theater, was organizing the back supply hallway and found it, logo turned to the wall, just went ahead and put it together, took like 2 hours lol.
I always see the other guys at work putting them together. I wish I could just do that instead of asking if people want popcorn.
How messed up is that that I have to work the night of the premiere and I don't get to watch? ;_;

I was the exact opposite. I really liked TASM when I saw it in theaters, rewatching it now and can't believe how bad it is. Gwen is boring, Lizard is awful, Peter doesn't act like Peter, only good part was Leary. I'm dreading seeing TASM2 tonight.
I'm talking about ASM2. Still we'll have to agree to disagree about Maguire. I hated him as Peter.

As a HUGE Spider-Man fan, all I can say is that this movie is utterly atrocious. Entertaining? Sure. But the script was absolute garbage. Fuck. this.

Man. I guess it's good I'm reading this because I really thought Webb would nail this film after the bland first one. I'm going with a group of like 5 people and I think I'm the only one who has looked at the negative reviews... not sure if I should tell them to temper expectations or just go in blind and see what happens.
Can't wait for that awkward moment after a bad movie where no one knows what to say.

I mean, they've done some competent stuff. Not great, but at the very least competent. This movie was trash. I don't even know where to begin. None existent villain motivations, bad pacing, terrible emotional points, complete disrespect to the original characters.
The actions scenes were great. I'll give it that. Watching Spidey webswing in 3D made my jaw drop at times. But all that spectacle amounted to nothing.

I'm down for great action... is there more than like 15 minutes of it though? Everyone's reactions make it seem like there's not much of it to go around at 2 hour 20 minute movie.
At least I'll have Spectacular Spidey to wash away any bad aftertaste. Halfway through the first season and they're nailing practically every character, especially Peter/Harry/Gwen/MJ.

Truth right here that's why I've kept my expectations so low once the guys behind Transformers were signed to write this and the worst part one of them is directing and writing Venom... (sigh).

Also, that 57% rotten rating on RT. Its funny, cuz you really got to HATE a movie to get it classified s "rotten". Like, there are some 3/5 "meh it was okay-ish" reviews read like the definition of faint praise, and those are the "fresh" ones!
After the first movie, I've just accepted my favorite fictional character is destined to just have mediocre movies for awhile.
Don't worry. I'll make a Spidey movie one day.

Action is surprisingly good. Against Rhino out of all of them lol.
Anyway, it has at least one scene's worth of good action. The rest not so much.

Ok but the film has to do more than be "effective" at portraying spidey to be a good movie. The plot was all over the place, the dialogue was anywhere from hammy to straight up bad in any given scene, and the villains' motivations were laughably awful
What's galling is that this movie will still probably make money in the box office, allowing Sony to make more Spider-Man films.

I can tell you right now that you've seen pretty much all of the Rhino fight. And I haven't even seen the movie.
I said this in some other thread (or maybe this one, idk) but that was a really unnecessary corner to write themselves into. *obviously* Peter and Gwen are going to get back together, why contrive a dynamic where doing so means shitting all over the dead guy? They could have easily avoided this problem -- while staying even truer to the comics mind you -- by simply having Stacy's last words be to protect Gwen rather than stay away from.

I agree that the villians motivations were awful and some of the dialogue from the vilaiins was pretty poor but it depicted Gwen and Peters relationship brilliantly. I thought the plot was decent too. For me being an absoloutly HUGE Spider-man fan for over twenty years, the sheer joy at seeing the character I grew up reading represented so accurately on screen with the warmth,wit relatabilty the character deserves was unparalleled. I can forgive the film some flaws for that.

Something that I noticed, which isn't really a complaint but just an observation, is how white this Spider-Man reboot is in a world where every superhero movie has some good/positive racially diverse character in the form of a friend, partner or boss.
While I didn't like the film, it is a feast for your eyes. It is very pretty and one of the better 3D in films. I went with a buddy who hates 3D movies and he was impressed.
Highly recommend this movie in 3D if you HAVE to see it.
