I mean renaming the console to something else (with or without the word Wii in it), repackage it with a different look and kick off a new marketing campaign. It will definitely add more confusion to certain degree but considering how the mainstream still sees Wii U as a peripheral it's a risk worth considering.

if they're going to just be rid of the wii name entirely, then why not do it in a couple of years when new actual hardware is out. if they do it now and if it's successful, they might have a difficult time getting people who thought they were getting a recently-launched console to buy another. or if they plan on slimming it down and relaunching it, then maybe they should make it their new hardware similar to what the wii was to the gamecube. either way, a 2015 mid-replacement (even from just a marketing standpoint) screams sega 32x to me.

Do you mean this: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=83685285&postcount=1

Because to me it seems dodgy as hell, if anything it reinforces my beliefs.

Also to you this doesn't look like a fighting game?

One thing that has been pretty annoying about nintendo lately...

Theres no exploration games anymore.

I mean, you see this beautiful background and can you navigate it? Nooo.. you´re tied to the game (any game) mechanic at that time, which means you cant take time to walk around, discover stuff. Like it was possible on Mario 64, or Star Fox Dinossaur Planet, or Zelda games (the only nintendo "exploration" game we have right now)

Even mario 3d world feels like it wants you to get to end of the stage as fast as possible...

...and i never liked Pikmin exactly because its always rushing you the day is coming to an end hurry get all your pikmins.

I see the beautiful stages on the new Smash Bros game and its like "i wish they made a game i can explore this stage"

Pokken Fighters, and Pokken Tournament got trademarked, not long after this clip was revealed. Ken means fist in Japanese. You can see a fist in a logo in the background. Both pokemon are in fighting stances, with clenched fists. The backgrounds look like something that suits a fighting game, not any stadium game ive seen before. You can see a short barrier, preventing the pokemon from leaving the area. As in, that'd make more sense for a fighting game, then a stadium game, where you can't move the pokemon on your own.

The camera angel is irrelavent. If they were to have the typical fighter camera view, it'd reveal that it is a fighter. I'm sure they didn't want to give things completely away.

Iwata has spoke about doing collaborations with 3rd party developers. Namco has been close with Nintendo and developing games.

I'd actually be surprised if this wasnt a fighter, and the trademarks that were filed never came to be anything.

Exactly, everything falls into place nicely, there's no reason to go out of our way to think it's something else. Seems they clearly had at least a definite concept underway, with the design of the logo and everything else: too much attention to detail to be a simple concept video about the future of pokémon.

Exactly. MK8 is one of the worst offenders, since it looks like a dream yet you cant enjoy the background becaue you´re too busy trying to not get killed on the track

I feel nintendo is making a push for same room multiplayer games. But even that is no excuse for the lack of an exploration game, since the gamepad means both players 1 and 2 can get a full screen each...

Based off how past pokemon games though it just seem like thats the obvious choice..a stadium game. I would like to see the fighting game too but that looks exactly like a stadium or colliseum game or something.

I wonder if we'll see what NERD has been up to. That cloud computing thing mentioned in the Iwata Asks. I have absolutely no idea what they might be working on, but NERD mostly consists of video codec and engine guys. Which, in addition to the mention that it would be GPGPU powered cloud computing, might be a hint. Maybe, instead of going all Onlive, they work on a hybrid approach, where the gameplay code runs locally to keep latency to a minimum, but the games can tap into server farms to offload certain computations.

It's true we have the stadium precedent and I could totally see it end up as one of those games... but right now the enclosed stage, different setting, peculiar choice of pokémon make me think otherwise.

Phew, that took some catching up!

And now, ladies and gentlemen, I present to you, HYPE TRAIN 2 - HYPE HARDER!

I want in! CHOOO CHOOO!

Ridiculously Exaggerated E3 Hopes:

QOL/Hardware:

A new motion controller to be announced as a comeback of the Power Glove, with true 3D tracking and finger sensing abilities, holding a Wii Remote Plus can be used with it, may use a new Sensor Bar or an accessory plug for the GamePad (placed on the table) for motion positioning. QOL platforms... Future hardware discussion, plus featuring elements in games that will benefit health, talks about study of precision and coordination games as improving health and muscle control, rhythm games for mind coordination, etc. Exercise benefits will include the use of the new motion controller plus talks of add-on content for Wii Fit (featuring new controller).

Wii U:
  • Battalion Wars - Free to Play
  • Zelda U - Twilight Princess art style set during a more future time frame than previous games
  • Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem - More information
  • Metroid - Open World styled metroid game as Samus is able to travel from planet to planet going on missions as the story progresses, on land the game plays in first-person, on the ship, the game plays in third-person.
  • Zelda Hyrule Warriors - To tide people over till Zelda U
  • Real-Time 3D Fire Emblem Game - eShop release to tide people till Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem. I added this for no reason
  • X - X
  • EDIT: StarTropics - Plays like Zelda in a more modern setting, tries to be very inventive in style and play, uses new motion controller.

3DS:
  • Rhythm Heaven 3D - Games like having to hit the touch screen paddle as a ball bounces back and forth in 3D. Game is mixed with touch screen controls (flick, hit, etc.) with button controls, even using Circle Pad for things
  • Miyamoto New Game - A game that has QOL elements focusing on using the 3DS with real life and completing goals to beat challenges, while also incorporating classic game format styles, all compacted into one game, not like a minigame collection
  • 1080 - eShop game, Arcade modes, featuring Nintendo characters as bonus
  • Wario + Waluigi - 3D Wario Game with (for the first time ever) Waluigi. About going into castles and stealing treasure, stealth based for playing as Waluigi, action based for playing as Wario. Each level is an open world, takes place in a different world, but features the Mushroom Kingdom as a level
  • Nintendo Puzzle Collection - An eShop collection of Nintendo Puzzle Games (such as Tetris Attack, Dr. Mario, Yoshi Cookie, Yoshi (original) and Game & Watch games with both the remade and classic versions (like old Game & Watch collections)
  • GTA 3DS - Every Nintendo handheld has had a GTA game, is it too early for the next one, or longer?
  • Custom-Robo - eShop. Quick Arcade length matched, pick up and play style. Download Play or could be a Free to Play game. Has a big Street Pass focus

I'm collecting avatars, and will update the train with a few at once. It's better than spending my day off work uploading to imgur.

I am on the train 1 but I wouldn't mind taking a seat on the train 2.

Is it me or are the hype trains less crowded than last year?

So have there really been zero rumours? How can Nintendo be so tightlipped. Maybe its time to drag forward that huge list of developers they have and see what they could possibly be working on again. And wasnt there last year a new unaccounted for Nintendo subsidiary? Where is the work detective gaf has done on that?

I'll take a ticket. Every generation of Nintendo consoles the E3 I wait for is the one that reveals a new Zelda, can't wait.

I really doubt.

Gen 6 kind of eliminated that entire appeal, especially the wii u.

"hey your pokemon in 3d and minigames"

" you mean the game I have on my 3d right now?"

Nintendo has always been tight lipped. You won't get any information to what they're working on until they announce it.

eh i dont agree, some people would find those graphics incredibly appealing as some new colliseum or something

I don't think so, I think if people were really into graphics that bad, they wouldn't be already into pokemon. And just offering the same experience but better looking on a console they don't want seems pointless

But an entirely new experience, one people have been talking about for years, to try and get people to buy one of those thing sounds way more plausible.

Well thats what you think. I just simply disagree.

I want a spot on the hype train!

On another note, I'm curious what Zelda exactly is going to appear. Probably Hyrule Warriors

What will happen:

Zelda U
Bayonetta 2 again
X again (but we've barely seen footage so I'm ok with it)
Smash again

What I want to happen:

3D Metroid
New IP (give me some hack and slash games or a kid Icarus console game)
F-Zero revival
Star Fox reboot
Majora's Mask 3DS remake with a purple 3DS XL bundle.

Put me on the hype train.

It's not going to be another 'Stadium' style of game. Pokemon Battle Revolution didn't sell all that well iirc, and given Pokemon X&Y feature 3D battles the market for that kind of game is even smaller now.

Pokken is a fighting game. How is this even a question? Pokken Fighters. Even based on the image it doesn't look anything like a Stadium game.

All right, let me in on the train too.

Zelda on Wii U's going to be the last thing they show to close out the Digital Event since it's the biggest thing we know is coming. Bayonetta 1 on the eShop to get our bodies ready for Bayonetta 2, and a new trailer for Monolith Soft's next title, with a new 2015 release date. Oh, and of course, F-Zero X Star Fox.

This ending in Command still frightens me.

Not starfox x Metroid?

Guys, you remember this? (Dat DK who gave me a bad feeling about the new Retro's game)

Maybe this year we will be spoiled again by the Lanyard about the games that will be playable on the booth.

So for future reference 'always trust the lanyards'.

Oooh, this got me excited for the inevitable show floor construction pictures. The 'what's in the box' discussions will be great!
