The gameplay wasn't exactly inspired, but it did look like a solid shooter with a fantastic sense of cinematic engagement. Kind of like Heavy Rain meets Uncharted. I'm a huge fan of movie-like games with rich stories and interesting characters and settings. The game is showing a massive amount of potential, it just pains me for Sony to show it off like this - running in such a glitchy state.

I hope all that tearing and low FPS is down to twitch. Hopefully we'll get HQ footage soon to clear that up. Then again it strikes me that this game is way further off than planned and I'm sure Sony will allow them time to work on that framerate and Vsync.

Gears is awesome. No third person shooter has come close to it in terms of smooth-ass TPS combat. If it's close to it then I'm happy. What innovation are you looking for here? The same turn-based JRPG you've been playing for the last 30 years?

People aren't calling the game boring because you're shooting in a third person shooter. They're calling it boring because out of a 2 minute clip you have:

- Staying behind cover in the same spot shooting enemies
- Scripted drag-guy away section
- Cutscene

I'm super excited for this game but it was a pretty bad choice of section to show off.

Exactly, everyone was super jazzed after The Last of Us E3 demonstration, was it yet another third person shooter? Of course, but it felt incredibly dynamic, tense and fun.

I don't think the comparisons to Duck Hunt are that far off based off what was shown in this clip. You hold down a spot and unleash a swath of bullets in a shooting gallery type scenario.
It's not that it looks like Gears of War clone. It's that looks like a bad Gears of War clone. I'm honestly just not understanding what exactly is compelling about this game beyond the visuals.

Welcome to the astroturfing/concern trolling era.

It's pretty phenomenal. I don't know who is a paid troll or who is high on fanboy-fumes anymore. So I guess someone is doing their job. This place is coming off at the hinges though, with E3 so near.

Is that frame-rate from the stream or the game?

Either way that was a terrible way to showcase the game.

Graphics still look amazing of course.

People aren't allowed to be critical? The gameplay itself from what we've seen so far isn't exactly exciting.

It's not about being critical, it's just about the hyperbols and the extreme points people are making...

We haven't seen much apart from 2 rather short gameplay moments.

TPS Games are usually not that different, and certainly look pretty identic so other franchises or IPs.
Shadows of the Damned played pretty much like Resident Evil 4, but I never felt that I played the same game, simply because it was a different game and offered more than enough that was different from RE4.
The setting,weapons,story,characters and so on...

The key question will always be, does the game offer enough to satisfy my needs.
Since we haven't seen enough of the game, that question will remain until we've seen more.

Obivously there are alot of points that needs to be questioned, using the platform twitch or why are they showing a similar segment ?
Why aren't they showing the exploration part or the half breads ?
That's something I'll understand, but that bullshit with "looks like Gears of War or Resident Evil 4 or whatever" is just exhausting...

Just wait until they offer you more, if you're not interested to see more, than we even bother to discuss the shown stuff ?

There's definitely some nice looking stuff happening there. Like everyone else I'm curious to see some other gameplay mechanics in action besides the third person shooter portion. Here's hoping that they show more of the game in action at E3. :)

I wouldn't mind if it played like the first Gears, with aggresive enemies, the need to dodge, opportunities to flank etc. Give me that at E3 please, RAD.

The great looks great really cant see why people are expecting it to be any different to other tps it's story/setting that sets most tps or fps apart.
Anyway seems like one of the characters was scratched i'm guessing by a ware wolf and he took an antidote? maybe a chance the characters could turn into one aswel at night some point in the game? stream went fast need need to re-watch.

well, it LOOKED great, that's for sure. It's just that the gameplay I saw didn't excite me at all.

I hope I don't get crucified/lambasted/accused of being a rival company fanboy or an astroturfer for this comment, though.

EDIT: that doesn't mean I think it'll be bad or mediocre. Maybe it's hella fun and I'm just a bit burnt-out on TPS for the time being.

I personally don't care that much about gameplay in Sony and Microsoft games. Others probably too, because The Last of Us was a pretty mediocre game in the gameplay department for a superhyped AAA game, and that's putting it mildly. But graphics and the, for a lack of better words, emotional compellingness (is that a word?) were topnotch. I just want pretty looking MS and Sony games that play at least more than decent, that's the reason a shitload of people bought the PS4 while there were only Killzone SF and Knack. That basically says enough. If I want to play a gameplay-first game, I know I'll find them at Nintendo.

Looks wonderful and I'm really digging the steampunkish setting. And as long as the gameplay isn't utterly boring I'll most likely be having a good time with it. When I buy a PS4 that is, which won't be any time soon (summer 2015 at the very earliest).

Not impressed right now. Gameplay looks generic.
Between that, infamous and driveclub, Sony 1st party fails to impress me ao far.

Some of the more extreme reactions are pretty suspect considering how little we've seen of actual gameplay. But with how astoundingly unique this game's art style and universe is, it is a little disheartening that all the in-game action we've seen thus far looks so maddeningly derivative.

Hopefully all that artistic brilliance isn't just shoeshine for uninspired mechanics underneath.
