Devil's Third on IGN now Wii U Exclusive

I do not understand why anyone is excited for this game. It looks so lame. I don't understand
My guess is that they hadn't seen the footage yet. The contrast in reactions between page 1 and the rest of the thread is quite illuminating. ;)

It does look terrible. Nevermind the bad graphics or animation or technical stuff; even if it had good graphics, it'd still be a super-generic cover-based TPS with regenerating health and an angry white protagonist (except he has tattoos). Mega-zzzzz.

It looks like a Japanese dev in 2007 decided that they wanted a badass western third person shooter with lots of foul language and blood and attitude... but they hadn't quite mastered the PS3 yet so it looked sort of rough and not at all competitive with what else was coming out.
Hahahaha, that's an absolutely perfect summary.

The gameplay looks terrible. Why were people hyping this?

Itagaki. Many like his work.

Why is it a waste? Just because it's Wii U exclusive?

Stop with the persecution complex.
It's a waste because the game is looking really bad right now.
If Sony or MS caught this as an exclusive reactions would be the same. The gameplay clip is one of the worst thing out of E3 so far.

"LOL YOU SALTY"

Or maybe, get this, people have standards when it comes to character action games and aren't automatic cheerleaders for the Wii-U when it gets software. The Devils Third was on some Last Guardian shit for how long its been talked about with nothing shown. What we ended up getting is a C tier looking title with no redeeming features when it comes to what can be added to the character action genre.

Oh god, I miss out on a Marlow Briggs looking game? IM SO MAD SALTY.

If this sells poorly third parties will really abanon the wiiu, because they'll think 3rd parties can't sell on WiiU.

It just seems people ask Nintendo to have "hardcore" games and then when it gets one they shit all over it. I agree the graphics look really subpar, even under what we know Wii U is capable of graphically.

First I was sad, now I'm not after watching that demo. Keep it, game is so janky looking it reminds me of WET.

I picture comments like this watching God Hand trailers.

So much salt. Maybe the game is fun, even though it's not flawless?

It's a serious action game. I'm interested in serious action games.

Never played God Hand so no opinions on that. This game just looks like it wasn't ready to be shown. By far the worst looking game I have seen so far at e3 this year (Nintendo Direct). I don't know what the release date is, but if this is close to representative of the final game I can't see it turning out well.

People would shit on this game no matter what console this was on.

Gamers want GOOD hardcore games on Wii U (like Bayonetta 2). Not whatever the hell this is...

Hardcore games aren't always good, shocking.

Drakengard 3 is significantly more jank than that game, and I'm loving it at the moment, and the combat system is surprisingly in depth.

My point is that a lot of these games are actually pretty fun if you give them a chance. No one here knows how the game is going to be yet.

It blows my mind that people on this site can play 2D indie games, or shit like Hotline Miami, but literally act like Devil's Third makes them sick. It's not flawless, but it looks like it has a lot of unique action potential. No one will know until someone gets to try it when it's done.

You guys won't even give it a chance.

It already is getting one in Bayonetta 2, which is looking to be another amazing game.

This game on the other hand looks outright rancid. Has nothing to do with the console, I would be saying that about anything putting out gameplay footage like that.

bayonetta 2, october 2014, mark your calender

Lollin.

This game was gonna be fun for multiplayer, but then I found out Bayo2 has online co-op so I really don't know what I'm gonna do with this game. Hopefully the maps make it worth it.

It should be obvious but people want good games. It's not difficult to understand.

you really getting mad at people not having low standards for janky ass Japanese games?

is this your strategy of conversation

It's not the same game as the 2012 trailer that's for sure. Looks like Itagaki cobbled up something for Nintendo to show at E3.

It's still in development, hopefully it'll be much improved by the time it comes out, improve the melee and throw in some more enclosed maps like what we saw in the 2012 trailer and I could be fun.

Itagaki was a world-class graphics whore back in the day. I'm curious to know what he feels about developing for Wii U.

A game can have lots of very redeeming qualities, but still have some flaws. Drakengard 3 has a lot of interesting elements in the combat system. It also probably has the best localization I've heard since NieR, and great characters.

People forgive imperfections all the time in indie games. But few people here are even willing to entertain the possibility that this game could be fun, even though one of the best action game makers of all time is behind it.

The obsession with graphical and technical perfection blinds a lot of people on here.

Same user also said extremely similar things regarding Sonic Boom.

well he's in luck, for whatever reason there's an audience for struggle PS2 2002-era c-titles in 2014 at full price

the animations, the environments, the level design, the combat design, the voice acting, the cutscenes, the framerate...nothing looked good about this

The gameplay in The Devils Third looks too simple and incredibly stilted. It looks like you're stuck to enemies when attacking them, that there is a magnetic force. The sword combos were non existent, the enemies took sword slashes without any retaliation. The pacing of combat looks dull, its way too slow and there is very little variation when it comes to sword combat.

Basically, it looks like it fails character action tests.

I just watched the trailer, you've got to be joking. Itagaki made this....this. This is coming from the same team that made Ninja Gaiden Black? No way.

The budget has to be incredibly small along with them switching engines mid development for something this bad to come out.

Please tell me this game has at least two more years of dev time.

I'm not sure the overlap between hipster indie gamers and character-action obsessives is as big as you think

Anyone on here like Hotline Miami, or Spelunky but is shitting on Devil's Third? If so, it's just ironic as hell. I could list a million more examples, but I'll just drop it.

I said wow. The trailer wasn't too bad, but the demo was terrible. The graphics were bad, but the gameplay is just terrible. All the enemies just stood there waiting to be killed.

There were a lot of cool ideas, but the game is in such rough shape, I think they would have been better off just showing the trailer and giving an interview. Hearing Itagaki's explanation for the story sounded like a great idea, but all the different gameplay elements they're trying to achieve may have been too much. They should have scaled back on some the features like map building. Hopefully the game gets at least another year in development and Nintendo can help them because they really need it.

It's not about graphics and the like. This game seems to lack the detail and care that most Itagaki games have. This is a standard created by previous games. Doesn't feel like Itagaki's heart is behind it, but it could change during the dev cycle. I kind of doubt it though.

This. That person is kidding himself if he thinks people are shitting on this because of it's graphics, everything about this game looks bad. This is below's Itagaki's standards.

If you've played Itagaki's Ninja Gaiden series, you'd expect perfection from him too.

I master ninja'd both games. I expected perfection, true.

But at the end of the day, I judge each game on its own merits. Also, if you played Ninja Gaiden at all, you would give Itagaki more benefit of the doubt than THIS.

Wow, well that game is something.

Gaming have moved on I'm afraid and it doesn't even use the best of old ideas.

I'll still love Ninja Gaiden on Xbox, good memories.

How is it ironic? I don't know if you're grasping the issues people are having with this.

Spelunky is an amazing game. It's incredibly well crafted, has a consistent and nice looking art style, and constantly rewards player perception. It is loaded with secrets, is tough as nails yet still remained fair throughout. There was nothing janky about the game as everything constantly worked as it should.

Hotline Miami I didn't play much so I can't add anything there.

Why wouldn't I be? Hotline Miami is untouchable? That is funny.

8 frames from any Hotline Miami clip you can find shows more character, and tight well designed gameplay than anything that 10 minute avalanche of aggressively sub-par Devil's Third footage.

You have to be kidding me right now. Hotline Miami, breh? That game feels amazing. Devil's Third looks like Lollipop Chainsaw's brother who they keep locked up in the attic. And I kinda liked Lollipop Chainsaw.

Go ahead and compare Dark Souls and Devil's Third while you're at it.
