Destiny: How did the Alpha affect your opinion of the game? Vote inside.

Update: I've added statistics to the bottom of this post. I'll keep them updated as more people vote.

Original Post: As you probably know, Bungie released the alpha version of Destiny for PS4 owners this weekend, which features both single and co-op levels, along with two deathmatch maps. The alpha (and all characters PS4 users created) is about to come to an end, and the question remains:

Did your opinion of Destiny change for the better or worse, or was it merely reaffirmed?

kbwVgxY.jpg

So while details and personal anecdotes will be interesting and helpful for those on the fence, I think it’d be cool if you could all (also) quote and answer these following questions/statements:

1. Before the alpha, my impression of Destiny…[finish this sentence]. My interest level was: _/10.

2. After having played the alpha, my impression of Destiny…[finish this sentence]. My interest level is now: _/10.

Reading over this post, I figure I might as well state that I’m in no way affiliated with Bungie because god fuck does it read rigid and professional. But I’m genuinely curious as to how the alpha potentially affected people—especially considering the perhaps lukewarm anticipation and confusing consensus of the game pre-E3 (2014).

And while this question is seeminly aimed purely to PS4 owners who played the alpha, I wouldn’t say no to hearing from people who just read impressions and took in info from those who played. Perhaps your opinion shifted too? Perhaps not?

I’ll let someone else start.

1. Before the alpha, my impression of Destiny was mild curiosity , the more I saw of it the less I liked though. The recent gameplay demo really killed it for me. My interest level was: 1/10.

2. After having played the alpha, my impression of Destiny is that you REALLY need to play it to get it. This game is actually very fun to play, I'm not sure how long it would stay that way but I spent about 3 hours in the alpha and enjoyed it quite a bit. My interest level is now: 9/10.

Lemme put it this way , I think I might actually consider pre-ordering the game now and I will at least be buying it on launch week. Prior to playing the alpha I was actually debating skipping it entirely. So , good job on the alpha I guess ?

Will be interested in this thread as I before my interest was 1/10 and the alpha never spiked my interest enough to download it or attempt to grab a code

Would be interesting to see what type of type of game genre people prefer also, to see if it would be my cup of tea :)

2. After having played the alpha, my impression of Destiny is that it is going to take over my life. My interest level is now: 11/10.

When they first announced it I was super intrigued figured Bungies newest wouldn't disappoint. I then kept seeing more videos and more demos seemed fine but not quite what I was hoping for so my intrest dropped a bit, but I was still intrested. So it was prob 6/10
After playing the Alpha and messing with each class I can easily say I am more hyped up for it than ever. Its super fun , super addicting I need more lol.
9/10

Halo meets Borderlands meets SWTOR meets a few other awesome games
Great job Bungie you confimed my preorder for XB! and PS4 now please just allow character transfer between PS4 and XB!

Those skyboxes though.

I really didn't pay any attention to the game but signed up for the alpha since I have a PS4. It really felt special and the controls were the best I've ever experienced on a console FPS. The amount of depth Old Russia had blew my expectations away. This is now my most anticipated title of the year next to GTA V PC.

Before the alpha, my impression of Destiny was that I was gonna buy it because it looked cool and it was made by a cool developer. My interest level was: 8/10.

After having played the alpha, my impression of Destiny is that my gut feelings were right on the money. My interest level is now: 10/10.

1. Before the alpha, my impression of Destiny was optimistic/positive about the quality of the gameplay. My interest level was: 8/10.

2. After having played the alpha, my impression of Destiny is much lower due to the gameplay feeling monotonous. I don't enjoy essentially playing an FPS like Halo but with MMO balancing where it takes 10 clips to kill an enemy, and I have to run and let my shields recharge every 10 seconds. My interest level is now: 5/10.

1.Before the Alpha, it was pretty negative. So around 6/10.

2.After the Alpha, slightly better but still somewhat negative 7/10. Shitty VA work, lack of interesting quests, and a dead overworld are all buzzkills. They really need on getting better quests in the game.

Improved some. It's not a game I'm wildly anticipating, but it's good enough to justify getting upon release. Especially as it's hitting just in time for my birthday like Reach literally did and SE's failed for years on delivering a decent JRPG in time for my birthday, they were good about this for the most part from 1995 onwards but got screwed up enough lately that's not as applicable.

1. Before the alpha, my impression of Destiny was quite good. My interest level was: 9/10.

2. After having played the alpha, my impression of Destiny is decimated. My interest level is now: 2/10.

The alpha was extremely boring and I had the worst time trying to find my way around the hub area while only being able to see a map when I talked to certain characters. Someone saw me playing and asked "How is this any different than anything else you play?" I couldn't answer them, and that gave me enough perspective to save my time and money by cancelling my preorder.

1. Before the Alpha, I was cautiously interested but not incredibly so- I really liked the Halo trilogy, but fell off hard and Destiny just wasn't hooking me for any reason. My interest level was probably a solid 4-5/10.

2. After the Alpha, I have become a complete and total believe in the game and really look forward to playing it. The MMO stuff all feels great, dem dance moves, the really tight shooting, the solid feeling multiplayer and "that Wizard came from the moon". You got your hooks in me again, Bungie. My interest level is probably closer to a 9/10 now.

1. Before the alpha, my impression of Destiny was first-person Diablo with guns. My interest level was: 2/10.

2. After having played the alpha, my impression of Destiny is better. Guns feel decent, but I'm concerned about the potential lack and sterility of content. My interest level is now: 5/10.

Before the alpha, my impression of Destiny was terrible, I had no clue what the game was and it looked like Halo. My interest level was 3/10.

After having played the alpha, my impression of Destiny is that I am an idiot for thinking it looked like Halo (floaty jump aside), and I now have a grasp of what the game is shaping up to be. My interest level is now 9/10.

Quite a turn around.

Well I preordered as soon as I could so I was probably at a solid 9/10 before playing the alpha. Now that I've spent most of the weekend with it I'm ready for the full game. 9.9/10 The game is not perfect by any means so I hope Bungie takes a lot of the feedback given and improves on some of the weaker portions of the game. (Network errors, PVP netcode, enemy respawn location/timing, maps, pvp balance (supers, weapon balance, vehicles).

They've done a LOT of things right, it's just the small stuff that needs to be sorted out.

I was pretty meh towards it and my hype for it was about a 5/10.

Now, I've warmed up to the game a bit but probably would like it more if I had people to play with :( 7/10. They need to balance weapons for the Crucible and tone down the Interceptor/tank thing's firepower. The strikes and freeroaming are really boring though, a lot of people were claiming the game was open world but it's not at all, well not in the traditional sense. There's also not much to do.

I'm gonna keep my preorder because I'm holding out hope that the final game will be much improved... I've also heard that the game is gonna be more about loot and equipment progression rather than level progression, but the weapon progression unlocks aren't very exciting. It's all just standard stuff like scopes, increasing firepower, or increasing how much ammo you can carry, nothing major as far as I've seen. The really unique weapons and armor will probably have the cool unlocks. I'd prefer if it really was like Borderlands with the crazy powers and the crazy weapons, but this is all pretty tame.

Edit: I might be grading it kind of high because I have nothing to play.

Before 2/10 I rarely ever thought of the game except to laugh about how much money is being spend on the game

After 9/10 I never played it on my own but watching numerous streams have me EXTREMELY interested in the game. definitely a system seller to me.

1. Before the alpha, my impression of Destiny was interested, but not yet sold on the game. My interest level was: 6/10.

2. After having played the alpha, my impression of Destiny is that it's a game I could see myself sinking a lot of time into, which is problematic. My interest level is now: 9/10.

1. Before the alpha, my impression of Destiny was 'maybe'. I had only watched a couple of videos and while the graphics looked nice the game play just didn't seem overly exciting. My interest level was: 5/10.

2. After having played the alpha, my impression of Destiny is day one purchase. I'm not crazy over the game or anything but I'm definitely interested in playing it through. I can see there being enough content to get my money's worth. My interest level is now: 8/10.

I just hope they can inject enough variety into the final game, not only in enemy types but also mission structure and armor/weapons. That's my biggest fear coming out of the alpha, everything seemed a bit repetitive.

Won't be a popular opinion from what I've seen thus far...

1. Before the alpha, my impression of Destiny was this looks interesting, I wonder what they're going to do with it. My interest level was: 6/10.

2. After having played the alpha, my impression of Destiny is everyone believes this is a MMO, and it isn't even close. The combat is dull and uninspired. The 'exploration' everyone talks about must have been missing from copy, as I was given waypoints to everything (with nothing interesting to see or do in-between those waypoints). Enemies reminded me way too much of Halo (their behavior seems pulled straight from 3 thus far). My interest level is now: 1/10.

On the plus side... Music was great.

I was pretty hyped for it, from a game design perspective I found it fascinating, I also really love Sci-fi and thought the premise of this was really intriguing. I was however worried about the gameplay, that it would be too much a shooter and not enough rpg.I'm also not a huge Halo fan.

After the Alpha I pre-ordered the game, can't get enough. It was everything I wanted and more.

1. Before the alpha, my impression of Destiny was in the middle. Thought it looked good, but the gameplay videos left a lot to be desired My interest level was: 6/10.

2. After having played the alpha, my impression of Destiny is pretty low. The game gets boring fast. Same formula repeated over and over again. That's something that won't change by retail, it's how they designed the game to be. The music, art, and NPC interaction are great though. My interest level is now: 3.5/10.

2. After having played the alpha, my impression of Destiny is that my gut feeling was spot on. My interest level is now: 11/10.

Either way I had the game pre-ordered on the PSN so I was pretty much fucked if the game was bad but I'm glad the game is what I expected and more. Got my bro aboard too

This is a great post, in terms of piquing me my interest in the game. I currently feel the same as you did before you played the alpha, except I haven't played the game yet. Thanks to thus post, I'll actively try playing the game and giving it a chance once it comes out.

1. Before the alpha, my impression of Destiny was as a Halo fan, I was certainly interested. But concerned that it was looking to be an online only title. My love of Halo comes first and foremost from the single player. PvP was always a fun side event. My interest level was: 7/10.

2. After having played the alpha, my impression of Destiny couldn't be higher. It took a little while to get into the grove of it, but it was incredible. Did some missions solo, others with random, and enjoyed them equally. My interest level is now: 10/10.

There is a few things that need to be fixed but it was only an alpha. But this has game of the year all over it.

Before the Alpha my hype was significant but I thought it might be too similar to Halo. My hype level was 7/10.

After the alpha, I think this game is gonna be awesome. 9/10.

Before - what is this? Halo meets Borderlands?

After - Why can't I turn the music down?/off? wtf is this? Why is the FoV so shitty? Fucking console games. Had fun though, 8.8.

Before the alpha: 6/10
After the alpha: 9/10
I'm so getting this game. It blends rpg and fps genres quite well. GIVE ME MOREEEE!

Before the alpha, my impression of Destiny was fusion of Halo and Borderlands with massive potential. My interest level was: 9/10.

After having played the alpha, my impression of Destiny has changed to a negative one. Too many things trying to mesh together, with some working and some falling flat, though I imagine some issues will be rectified by release and am aware that this slice was cut unevenly. My interest level is now: 6/10.

Heh, mine's interested in that white bundle that's hitting. That'll probably do a lot for the game, makes me think maybe I really should have waited on the PS4 afterall.

I'm more of an RPG fan than a shooter fan, so this game had something to prove to me. It did all it had to.

I found it, for an alpha, about at the level I was anticipating based on all the previews i've seen. It certainly did not let me down, and I will be retaining my pre-order. I only played the Alpha for about 4 hours though. I know there is SO much more to this game I have yet to see. It's going to be fantastic.

I also feel very comfortable recommending this game going forward now that I've had a chance to play it. It's sure to help word-of-mouth.

went from 2/10, to 9/10, to 5/10

Thought the game was gonna be garbage. Then had the alpha and really enjoyed it. picked up Titanfall since i just got my Xbox and going back to Destiny was the worst. the movement speed was slow as hell originally, but going back to it after Titanfall, it felt like i was playing with slow motion on

Changed my opinion for the better. I was impressed enough by the E3 2013 demo to pre-order it for the Beta, but the Alpha put me in "OMG I NEED IT NAO" mode.

Best game I have ever played and I am not even joking. I considered Halo CE the bench mark for the fps genre but destiny is like an evolution of what made halo so great. Add in loot, free roam explorable world and you have my dream game.

Destiny is nothing like Borderlands, minus the loot, It looks like Halo, plays like Halo it just has rpg elements to it. And I love it.

1. Before the alpha, my impression of Destiny was mostly skeptical. I was interested in the lore, but the gameplay sounded list of bullet point describing other games. My interest level was: 5/10.

2. After having played the alpha, my impression of Destiny is very enthusiastic. I was really impressed with the gameplay and design, and the lore is really impressive. My interest level is now: 8/10.

Didn't get to play the alpha, but I've been interested and hyped ever since the initial leaks of the game and then the reveal.

After seeing all the positive posts and feedback and watching the streams, I absolutely can't wait to get my hands on this game.

Before the alpha, My interest level was: 2/10. It just looks boring to watch regardless of what mode you're playing.

After having played the alpha, My interest level is now: 6/10. The game plays a lot better than it looks. The voice over work is terrible thanks to Dinklage sleep reading his lines.
