'The Last of Us: Remastered' coming to PS4, July 2014, [1080p, targeting 60 fps]

As someone who's played about 30% of this game, none of those out of context thumbnails mean anything to me nor will I even recall them a month from now when the game comes out. The spoiler threshold for some is kind of strange to me but whatever.

Youd also need a bit of context to be completely spoiled

I will be playing both for the first time as well.

And, it appears that most people never played Left Behind--it's awesome. I hadn't played TLOU in months when I got that DLC and it looks so damn good on the PS3.

I just checked the trophies for it and only 3.9% of TLOU players have finished Left Behind on Normal difficulty. That's crazy

I recall hearing that they were going to render the cutscenes separately again.

My question is - how is this possible? 1080p60fps cutscenes would cause massive storage issues. There's not a chance in hell they'll fit that on a single 50 GB disc.

I have no clue why they didn't just go real-time for the cutscenes....

The hotel basement was pretty scary I thought.

I remember being freaked out, but I turned the generator on and ran straight to the exit without ever seeing a single infected or the bloater that everyone keeps rambling on about. I only happened to know where the exit was because I had explored ahead of myself and found the blinking red light by the door, fully knowing that would be where I needed to go when I found the generator.

Strategy? No.

Just ran like hell.

Perhaps they are realtime cutscenes, especially after the comments they made about never going back to pre-render on the PS4.

Is the Yurop version censored again GAF? Should I just hit the pre-order button on Amazon.com? I live in Australia and we usually get what Yurop gets. :/

That's the strategy I eventually went with in my first playthrough after a few failures. But then I tried it again on Survivor Mode and was met by a bloater the second I turned the corner to the exit. Probably the biggest scare I've had in years.

Hm Interesting. Never heard that, do you have a link?

It makes sense though, with only 50 GB to work with, pre rendered cutscenes should be a thing of the past.

Very possible but I thought they said they were going to be pre-rendered. This is just going off of memory though, so don't quote me.

I remember not that long ago a tweet by someone from ND saying they were going to have trouble fitting everything on one disc.

"Our cinematics are now running at 1080p and 60fps, and that involved rendering them all from scratch. It's interesting that now [instead of a technical bottleneck], the bottleneck is 'Can we fit all this on the disc?'"

I cringed everytime at the thought of this part.
Especially on hard

Unfortunately for me I found a way to completely cheese the Stalker AI, basically making the whole section with them a non-issue.

Sad, because I can never force myself to not cheese it.

Having been reminded by a friend that a Forza 5 Racing game Of the Year edition is coming out July 22nd, I find it a bit funny that perhaps Naughty Dog could have avoided all of this pricing "controversy" by just calling the game "The Last Of Us Game of the Year edition Remastered".

It would probably mess up the engine and require a lot of reworking to have something other than prerendered cutscenes since it's programmed to play a video file there, hence rerendering them to maintain visual consistency of 60fps instead of real time. They're probably using some of the compression hardware on the PS4 combined with a newer video codec to make it fit. I expect this will be the last ND game with prerendered sequences, which is exciting. Seamless gameplay to cutscene transitions are always cool as hell and it will save a lot of disk space. It'll also allow for some light interactivity during cutscenes, like in The Order.

I've played the game 3 times and everytime I hit the generator and run to the door as fast as I can and I still always manage to accidentally trigger the door first instead of the card reader, getting me stuck in an animation freaking out.

I wonder if this could mean that some cutscenes look worse than gameplay because they had to compress them a lot to fit in the disc.

Probably

At least it won't be like BF4 where the prerendered cutscenes are badly compressed at 720/30 when the game is 900/60

Wolfenstien has the same issue. I doubt it'll be as dramatic as that though.

I'm getting more and more excited but what if I'm in Paris and see some random dude playing a demo of it on the PS4 and it looks kinda flat?

My hype will be gon that's for sure.

A few pages back someone said it was confirmed in the comments section of a PlayStation Blog, so will probably be censored again.

However Amazon.com aren't shipping TLoU Remaster to Aus :(

Were you planning on trading it in? If not, just buy it digital on the US PSN store. That's 50 USD, which I assume is quite a bit cheaper than AUD prices.

I still worry that the cutscenes will look compressed...I remember the PS3 version having pretty badly compressed cutscenes.

Quick and dirty google:

IIRC there's some discussion about this on the U4 trailer thread, and it may even have had a thread all of its own.

Altho as you can see, I misremembered and it's from U4 onwards they're going to real-time only.

The best part of The Last of Us for me was the humvee hunt

very reminiscent of "the chopper" in Half Life 2.

The conclusion was equally satisfying! cant wait to play it again on PS4 :D

Really? They are so annoyingly inconsistent. I got the PS3 ver from them. Gamestop it is then. Sucks that Amazon doesn't want my Australian dollar.

Wow. Holy goddamn shit at that part. I swear I almost had a heart attack.

"Ok... If I turn this generator on, something nasty will come out of the shadows.... Something nasty will DEFINITELY come out of there. Yep. Something horrible. It's waiting. There. If I make any noise... Ok. But I HAVE to do this. Here it goes. Yeah. Here it goes.... *BROOM BROOM* FUUUUUUUCK!! RUN RUN RUN RUN RUN!!! WHERE'S THE EXIT!? NO!!! FUCK! HOW MANY OF THESE GUY.... A BLOATER!? NOPE! FUCK FUCK FUCK! RUN RUN RUN RUN RUN RUN RUN RUN!!!"

My hands were dripping sweat and my eyes were sticking out of their orbits.

My, that was my favorite part of the game. It just had me at the edge of my seat. I booby trapped all the entrances to me with the nail bomb, and every time an explosion happened I was like "Oh shit, here they come".

I would love a full blown horror game from Naughty Dog, something akin to The Thing would be right up their alley in terms of creature design/sound and human characters in general.

Earlier this year, I had the pleasure of playing TLOU on Hard for my mother who enjoyed watching me play like a really long movie. When the final scene played, she said it was one of the best vide games she ever had a chance to experience. I think I'll surprise her with this and let her see the improved graphics and framerate.

I tried the same thing in June 2013 but she just laughed at me and said "it drops and isn't even ten eighty? get the fuck out of here with that shit"

it wasn't heavily censored though right? the AUS version still seems pretty good in terms of gore/violence etc although very little limb loss (in Mp not sure about SP)

MP is censored, not SP pretty sure. "censored content to be isolated to the PAL version's multiplayer mode, where blood spray has been significantly toned down and enemies cannot be dismembered"

Oh, I thought Australia was expensive.

Not this console generation thankfully.

Wolfenstein & Watch Dogs was AUD$60 down from $110 RRP at launch with one place selling them for $40 2 weeks later.

Even Mario Kart 8 was $50 at launch, on the same shelf was Mario Kart Wii which is still $50 since it came out years ago. Nintendo are usually terrible for lowering prices here so hopefully it's a sign of things to come from them.

I don't expect to pay more than $60-70 for a day one PS4 game now. Much better than the first year of the 360/PS3.

Even looking at the PS4, RRP is $550 but one retailer had a bundle with a PS4 and Wolfenstein for AUD$434 a month ago! Much cheaper than $1000 which is what the PS3 launched at here 7 years ago!
