Ah, definitely the wrong racing style for endurance races. ;)
As for your former question on what track, I don't have the game in front of me but it's race 2 of the very first endurance series.

Also it's hard to keep up with the endurance cars if you don't drive like that.

Hmm, I'm not sure, but I guess it's the Algarve circuit. I like that track! Full of ups and downs, tight corners, fast corners, some nice straights... Tough one, indeed! But I like it!

EDIT: are you doing free practices? The races are far more enjoyable when you know the tracks well.

About keeping up with the AI cars driving like that, I can't honestly say that I've won races like that, but I usually end the races between 3rd and 5th positions without any assists, and the AI on very hard on a X360 pad. Are you using any assists? People here were saying that it slows you down if you let 'em on.

Maybe I was just tired last night but it was a track I could not grasp. No assists. Using a wheel and hard AI. 16:00 minute races. I always practice before the races. It was a combination of not having rewinds and the AI dive-bombing into me while completely missing the corners and getting frustrated. I'm fine with not winning. Actually I'm 100% ok with a top 5 because you can't win everything in real racing. But damn getting spun out 6 minutes in and going from 5th to 16th is annoying as shit. Also the AI can cut corners that you can't I've noticed.

Combination of all of that led me to just say fuck it. I actually was less frustrated with the drifting.

Yeah, that race wasn't easy for me either. I went to the race not feeling very confident on what I knew about the track, but it was enough to do a decent race. I got a lucky good lap on qualy, and started in... I guess it was in 3rd place, but I lost some positions in the beggining, falling to 5th. Then I got back to 4th, and started to chase an Audi R8 driven by a german girl. One of the coolest things about this game is how hard it is to overtake, and how you lose downforce when you're close to a car in front. So I tried and tried for some laps, and finaly managed to overtake her with some bump on her right door, but nothing overly agressive. It was just that she made a mistake in front of me, and I took advantage of that, while she tried to close the door on me. Ok, I got some distance to her, but the two Ravenwest cars were miles ahead already, so I was happy in third. As I've said, Algarve is tough, and I wasn't confident on what I knew of the track, so I made some mistakes and wasted my two flashbacks. Then my tires were getting worse and worse, and the german girl started to close the gap on me again, bringing an Aston Martin with her. I was fighting well, keeping my position, until she shamelessly made a cheeky overtaking manouver where she wasn't even that close to my rear (something like 30 meters behind!). She literally used my car to brake, and spun me in the process. I was mad, like I'm gonna murder you and all your family mad, but she got away and I finished in 5th position.

I really wish the game AI drivers would be more competitive aside from Aaron Westley and Nathan McCane. In almost every race it is me with those two in the top 3, regardless of discipline.

In Endurance mode those two Ravenwest drivers seem to have got nitrous in their cars, they somehow become even more godlike, even at Easy difficulty.

Which brings me to another point, it seems like the difficulty presets seem to affect each discipline similarly except for Endurance. E.g. Medium provides a decent challenge for me in all types, except for Endurance, where the top two are running rocket cars for some reason and I just can't catch up to them fairly.

I've to drag it down to Easy (sometimes Very Easy) just to finish at the podium at times for Endurance. Even the qualifying times are also affected.

Yep. Single Player career mode is straight up racing only. And some minimal tuning/modification of the provided cars. That's pretty much it.

If I've a criticism to levy in the SP career structure mode of GRID Autosport, it'd be that the extensive offline team building mode available in the very first GRID (complete with the rankings of other fictional AI drivers, points, your own garage, plus the ability to hire and fire your Teammates at will) is completely missing in this sequel. Decal creation, sponsor selection and customized cars are also missing in the SP Career mode.

If I recall correctly, the first game had what Grid Autosport offered for career SP mode (racing under other teams colours so you get more money but less rep) and then some (racing under own team banner and getting more rep + extra dosh). It's still the most extensive one in terms of the overall featureset.

Quite disappointed that I've got to do Online just to gain access to those features available in the SP portion of GRID 1. Why not have the features both offline and online?

I do the exact same thing. I race all disciplines in medium except open wheel I do hard. In endurance though, I bump it down to easy because the Ravenwest duo will be hot on my ass the entire race and if I make the slightest mistake they rocket past me and I can never seem to catch them. Even on Easy it is a challenge.

what are you waiting for
I've been really enjoying the multiplayer on PC. While I have some quibbles with how the mode is structured (which I will likely get into in a later post), it's been a whole lot of fun. By and large, most people have had mics and have been courteous on and off the track, and the netcode is truly fantastic.

A couple days ago, I was in a custom lobby where whoever won the last race got host privilege and chose the next event. It was a pretty full lobby with people on three separate continents, with the host switching every event, and there were no issues. The "smart" collision system that turns collision off in the event of significant lag or a huge crash works damn near flawlessly.

PROTIP for money online: Do the Racenet weekly challenges. Not only do they reward you rather handsomely depending on how well you do, you get paid at the end of the week depending on how you placed on the leaderboards proportionally to everyone else. The first week, I was slightly above average and got around $200k for how I placed.

What was the +200MB update that Steam downloaded for the game, does anyone know?

I noticed that when browsing for custom MP lobbies, it now shows the maximum number of players allowed in each lobby. Also, once you are in a lobby where an event has already started, there is a timer showing how long the race has been going (either that or how long you have been waiting in the lobby, didn't test to be sure).

Sans a proper spectate ongoing race option, a timer that shows how long the event is going on for could be helpful in reducing the number of people who join a lobby only to quit immediately when they see that an event is in progress.

In the online where do you actually buy cars? I have looked several times and can't see a garage or store at all.

After Online in the main menu, go over to My Cars and select that. There will be a VW Golf there for you and several slots to the right. Click on one of those empty car slots to start buying a car. You'll probably want a used car.

It's worth noting that the pricing and availability of the used cars changes roughly daily(depending on demand?). When I first saw the Cat C Touring Chevy Cruze, it was $200k like other cars in the category. A few days later, it was $95k.

Had a wicked time on this last night on Open Wheel. Love that Yas Marina track and sticking it up the inside of the nasty AI into the hairpin. The played Mont Trembalnt. What a rush, it's like a roller coaster! Beautiful dips and wide sweeping bends then under the bridge for the tight finish.

Didn't do that well in the end (4th), but as has been noted before, it's not really about the winning.

Also has anyone noticed how you can't just blow the AI on the line like in most other games? In that respect you've got to work hard for the podium/top step and it means so much more when you do win.

I like this approach and as long as CM develop it, they'll be plenty more success (just leave out the fucking drift events pls!)

Yeah, I instantly fell in love with Mount Tremblant when I did that race. And yes, I fuckin' love that you really have to fight hard to earn a position on the track.

What's with developers who release patch with no notes?

As much as I appreciate notes with patches, I appreciate developers who dedicate themselves to patching their game at all. Let's try to give them a slight break maybe? They appear to be honestly doing their best to make this game great..

Again, apologies for the delay in the patch notes but they are now live as have been posted here (thanks Megasoum!) Moving forward we're aiming to get patch notes live before the patch makes its way onto your hard drives, consider this a launch week hangover.

We're running a livery challenge this week if anyone wants to take part - http://blog.codemasters.com/grid/07/livery-challenge-red-white-and-blue/

Is there a time attack mode where I can pick the track and set times? I know I'm probably being daft but I can't seem to find it. Only custom games with a qualifying type setup where you can't seem to pick the track.

I like reading the impressions in this thread and I hope Codemasters now realize this is the direction they should take the GRID series next generation.

I only played GRID 1 (but absolutely loved it), skipped GRID 2. Should I go towards Autosport?

Yes. But it's less arcadey than Grid 1, I have to tell you. Also, now on singleplayer you don't own a team or buy cars. Instead, you sign contracts to race for other teams. If you don't have a problem with it, go ahead!

Ok Loore, I've noticed something odd here. I decided to do a new season with Fomula B cars, and I didn't felt the game so great like before. The cars ahead of me were disappearing in front (not just Reavenwest), the AI didn't impressed me like before. Ok, I confess that I was suffering a little with Autosport Raceway, and with this car. But then I went to the next race, which was in Spa, a track that I know well from other games, thinking that now that I knew the car better, and knowing the track, Id race better. But the same thing happened again, but not only that. I noticed that sometimes I was reaching 296 KM/h on the longer straight, and in the next lap I was reaching 310 KM/h, or even something close to 330 KM/h when I had cars far in front, so it was not a clear case of slipstreaming. I was doing the Eau Rouge at full throttle all the time, and even excluding the 330 KM/h case (when I had cars in front), I couldn't understand why I was gettin 296 in one lap and 310 in the next with clean air.

The car was configured for low downforce and longer gear ratios on Spa. All assists off and the AI on very hard.

Finally got around to playing the game.

You know, the thing I love about Codies is that their racing games have a lot of race day atmosphere. It really feels like i'm there at the races as opposed to other games where it feels a lot more subdued, a lot less of an affair.

Anyway, haven't played a lot but I really like what i'm seeing so far. It certainly feels like a Toca-esque kind of game which puts a smile on my face.

And Codies have also upped their game in my favourite department...audio. The cars(exhaust, engine, transmission whine, gear shift effects) sound absolutely terrific!
Doppler and reverb is top notch too. Ambiance and other related effects are great as well.
Well done Codies!

Back to the racing to see what's what...

Hey Codie mate, could there be an option to disable catch up for AI. Using hard difficulty on ps3.

You should try Very Hard ;)

It is not classic catchup I think, Rawenwest (and some second team, class dependable) simply have better (faster) cars.

With advancing through career, you get better offers and better cars.

At least it seems like that to me.

Lore?

Also, I did my first series of Holden Commodore...lol Crazy Aussies and their modern El Camino. What the hell haha.

Ravenwest are pure bullshit.

Kind of a shame this game isn't on PS4. I think it would have sold well with its release date and they probably could have run it at 1080/60fps quite easily. I wish the entire game was in the Street discipline though and had an actual car selection. There are a few where I literally cannot drive them without spinning out every 2 seconds.

Can seriously someone explain to me what is the reason behind doing the exact same race 2 times in almost every event? WTH?

Well it's the norm in Touring races (with inverted grid on the second race) but yeah it really doesn't make sense for open wheel for example when you do the same race with the same grid twice in a row.

Anyone know why Codies didn't sign up some real world racing licenses?
Seems like the touring categories line up exactly with real world categories like V8 Supercars, WTCC, V8 Utes etc.

Ugh I am getting so frustrated with other racers blatantly crashing into me from behind. Ridiculous AI in this game.

Thanks Loore.

About the brazilian portuguese translation, the voiceovers are really messed up. Something like you competing the 4th lap and you engeneer says that you're on the 7th lap, for example. Also, he constantly refers your teammate as "she", even if her name is Sebastian.

And, ah, I had a street race on a small San Francisco circuit where I had to avoid one of the kerbs because it was working like a ditch instead of something higher than the asphalt.

This game is actually making me angry. That's too bad cuz I really liked the first Grid.

Really? I mean, there's a few absolutely terrible tracks and the cockpit modeling is an absolute joke, but it's surprisingly fun to actually play. Great return to form as far as I'm concerned, and actually made me want to pick up F1 2013.

Been having a lot of fun with Autosport despite how flawed it is.

I think I'm a bad person because I'm enjoying street and tuner the most

The easiest disciplines to get into and to win in at least for folk new to the series (street in particular), so that's understandable. I find myself gravitating back to those two again and again if I ever get frustrated with the Endurance path, which is the most infuriating one of the bunch.

leng jai

Member
I was having fun with Street until I got the point where the tracks were super tight which made it impossible to avoid the AI's attempt to sabotage your race every 2 seconds.
