No, it wasn't so weak in comparison and, not, the gap between Ps4 and Xbone is bigger than you may think.
I hope Microsoft doesn't start trying to push developers to try for 1080p for the sake of being able to claim it. I don't want to deal with the other sacrifices that would have to be made like frame drops, screen tearing and other graphical settings missing. I'm perfectly fine with 900p as long as the framerate is smooth and there is vsync engaged. I hope it doesn't become their new initiative to calm the internet superfans because that would be disappointing.
Yea those days are gone. Xbox one can do any shader or effect ps4 can do, but at a lower res. There was definitely a difference. When RE4 came out on the PS2, the lighting effects and textured had to be tweaked considerably to make the game run acceptably. Black looked amazing on the Xbox compared to the PS2 (and it still looks great to this day).
Xbone games haven't had significant graphical changes like that to get them to run on the system.
I remember playing Freedom Fighters in 720p HD on my Xbox and being amazed. It was my first HD game lol. That kind of stuff showed just how much more powerful the Xbox was compared to the PS2. Well that and Chaos Theory, Doom 3, Riddick and an few others that really took advantage of the Xbox. There was definitely a difference. Agreed. But sadly the internet will demand 1080p just for the sake of numbers and console wars.I hope Microsoft doesn't start trying to push developers to try for 1080p for the sake of being able to claim it. That and it had a hard drive also. That's why it blows my mind how in recent years Microsoft has been caught with its pants down when it comes to some of its hardware decisions. There were several xbox games that could never run on ps2. Xbox was way more advanced
It was just bad management under ballmer and don mattrick. I think the next xbox will be a powerhouseThat and it had a hard drive also. That's why it blows my mind how in recent years Microsoft has been caught with its pants down when it comes to some of its hardware decisions.
trueI miss the PS2 days when the system was very weak compared to the Xbox and Gamecube, but people didn't care. It was all about the games. Yeah, the PS4 is a bit more powerful then the Xbone, but its not as big of a gap as people make it out to be.

It's because "the community" made 1080p the battleground for now, so it's where MS are being forced to fight.
Wasn't there some exec quote talking about the tradeoff between resolution and "pixel quality" a while back that got lampooned? Damned either way.

Constant trolling by itagaki or whem mikami moved resident evil to gamecube cauae ps2 wasnt powerful enough....
The system wars was just as intense back then

here's some numbers nextgen style:
gigaflops: more than 300% more on xbox. (in comparison, to keep the same gap today, ps4 should have more than 4.5tf)
memory: 200% the ps2 memory on xbox, at 200% the memory speed too.
gpu 2001 tech in xbox, 1999 tech in ps2.
mind you that on top of that, xbox had the online gaming that ps2 lacked, yet if you ask around today about back then, I bet the majority will say that they enjoyed one hell of a ride with the ps2 and for many was the best console gen yet.
One question, and I dont know if anyone have said something about this already, but if the clip was captured with the XBOX ONE DVR, doent it means this person was using the kinnect?, hence, he couldn't had been using the June kinectles SDK?
Im just asking, I have never recorded a clip from the One, so Im not sure if it can be done with the Kinnect disconnected.

We can only blame the community for it though. People seem to only care about resolution so that its what will be pushed and damn the rest of it. The problem is resolution is the only graphical information that can be displayed via a single number. That makes it easy to advertise or single out as a difference. I was perfectly happy with the graphics on ryse. I don't need 1080 to enjoy something.

That's not how that stuff works.

People still care about games but when you have PS4 and Xbone having almost the same game library why would you pick the worse performing one?

So how does it work? I can actually do clips on my XBOX without the kinnect?
EDIT: thanks Chabbs0

To be fair both lacks exclusives... no game changer yet... and by number they have the same with PS4 ahead with exclusives digital games. The exclusives on the Xbone where enough for me to get it first.

I wasn't here at the time. If that's the case then I guess very few should be surprised by how things are now (heh). I only visited the official PS forums on top of AOL gaming forums (haha) during that time. Latter was multi-console but there weren't any console wars.
Same here especially because I have a gaming PC for multi-platform games. But I'll be picking up a ps4 before bloodbourne drops early next year. The exclusives on the Xbone where enough for me to get it first.
Neogaf was worse because it wasnt as big and there werent that many admins here. Anyone remember cockles? That guy used to troll ps2 24/7
And the bad news just coming...doa4, halo at launch, wreckless, doom 3, half life 2, riddick, re4. The only thing sony fans had were the games. But the gifs, comparisons, thr trolling were way worse then.
Got the Bungie e-mail and now just waiting for the codes to be available. My only worry for the Xbone purchase is that the population will be limited.
DR3 is really great... it is the only exclusive game I wanted to play in XB1.DR3 and Forza at launch were what convinced me. I'll be getting a PS4 next year when some bigger exclusive stuff hits.

Well then, would you mind telling us how big the gap is?Yeah, the PS4 is a bit more powerful then the Xbone, but its not as big of a gap as people make it out to be.
First I've heard of this.GameDVR clips don't always capture at 30 depending on how much load the system is under. The drop you see was likely not present during actual gameplay.
Well then, would you mind telling us how big the gap is?
It's so big that we need articles from Digital Foundry telling us the difference.
It's so big that people zoom in on power lines in the distance to rofl at the "jaggies".
It's so big that....wait a second, if I have to actually read an article, and look at cherry picked pictures to tell the difference, it just isn't that big.... at least to me. I do think a lot of it has to do with diminishing returns.
The PS4 is more powerful than the X1, no doubt, but that doesn't translate to huge differences on screen. I mean hell, the Xbox 360 and PS3 still look decently good, even though they are less than 1/4 the power of X1 and PS4.
Why? I love 1080p. It makes a huge difference in clarity on my TV. That doesn't mean I dont want a solid framerate and no screen tearing. If they can't do 1080p without making those particular compromises, I want them to lower the resolution. But if they can cut some graphical effects to get 1080p, I'd be all for it.
While I agree that developers shouldn't be forced to use 1080p, I disagree completely that 1080p is just a console war numbers game. Sorry, but no. We've just gone though an unusually long, worn out, eight-year generation of 720p or less; we've moved on from 2005-level hardware (finally) and 1080p should be expected now. It's not the internet or gamers' faults that MS was way off the mark with their hardware.
So if I want my games to be in full HD it's not, in fact, because of how much better that looks on my 50 inch telly, but rather it's because I'm part of your nebulous "internet" collective playing an endless round of console wars?
Spare me the bullshit please.
ffs, the framerate picking I and others did on the first few pages of this thread could probably be seen as annoying I don't doubt, but in all honesty the Microsoft fans playing martyr in response has long since drowned that out as far as I can see.
Oh wow, talking about taking a posts out its context. I never said that 1080p isn't important, and you'll never hear me say that. If you'll read the post that I responded to you'll see that I agreed with him.Native display IQ is important. Scoffing at it and making hive mind comments doesn't change that and is a really dumb comment to be honest.
The Destiny alpha had some pretty nice IQ and I'm glad they decided to go for 1080p for the XB1 version as well.

1080p isn't worth it(imo) if that means that lots of other effects gets sacrificed, worse performance etc. You're not going to make me believe that there aren't plenty of folks out there that think that 1080p is the only thing that matters, which are the ones that my posts was aimed at. No need to feel attacked because I don't see things the same as you do.
Of course people are free to have there own preferences, I respect that and I don't want to try to change that.
But it does translate huge differences on screen? Differences in resolution and performance with missing or reduced graphical effects have all been present in multiplatform games released so far.
Just look at any of the threads that appeared a while ago with people screaming when a game wasn't running in 1080p.I'd like to meet these gamers that think 1080p is the most important thing and are willing to sacrifice framerate stability and screen tearing to make it happen.
