The Last of Us: Remastered |OT| Game of the Years

I really can't wait to see what I think of it remastered.

I played MGS3 when it first came out, and didn't really like it. I played it again when Subsistence came out, and liked it a little more. I played it again when the remaster came out and it instantly became my favourite of the series and gained a place in my top ten.

What happens when an already mindbogglingly incredible game with questionable performance and IQ gets fixed?

Scary quality coming.

Show of hands... Who will be jumping into the multiplayer first?

i am.

I never once played the MP :(. I linked my Facebook to it to see what happened, but I never went back.

I told myself I would with the remaster since people spoke highly of it, but when a game captivated me so much in it's SP I almost feared attempting the MP.

Haha, I had tons of posts like this in the OT:

The art is beyond incredible, but damn this 720p resolution.

The image quality is disgusting, jaggy lines flying all over the place. It's the most distracting thing in the world. And they move...

Textures flickering all over the fucking place. It's nearly unplayable, guess I'll just have to suffer.
What save thing? Wasn't that fixed?

I'm talking about the insane aliasing and the somewhat inconsistent frame rate. Frame rate isn't nearly as much of an issue as the object shimmering/flickering.

And still named it my Game of the Year and Game of the Generation.

This Remaster is going to be ridiculous.

I still remember the gist of the story (I think I last played it last October), but being a prequel, I think LB should flow nicely into the main campaign.
I would say replay the game first.

It's not all it appears.

Not my game of the generation, but yeah, very high up that list. It's going to be amazing.

Don't click this if you haven't played the main game peoples. Potential LB spoilers, but I haven't played it/watched it and I don't consider it one.
I haven't played LB, but I think it starts during the Winter Chapter and is a flashback type of thing. If that is the case I may start it when I get to Winter.

There's nothing to fear from the MP.

just a highly skilled group of 4 who will totally destroy your team

TAJ

Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.
I'm keeping it for "Collection Purposes" even though I'll likely never touch it again.

Same reason I have 3 versions of MGS2 and MGS3

If you're going down that road, (and you shouldn't) then you're missing many versions of those games.

So I called Gamestop and the employee had no idea about the 50% off trade in deal. Was trying to get me to trade it in for $14 and put it toward the game lol.

Can the LB players verify this? I'd start it during the winter chapter too if that's the case.

That sound like a really good idea actually. Fits in nicely.

Not happening. Closest you can get is the GameStop upgrade deal where you get the Remastered for $25 with the trade of the TLoU PS3 disc. Digital TLoU has no deal.

I thought about it, but there are a lot of people that are going to be playing through for the first time.

Have you thought about allowing spoilers maybe a week after the game is released? Maybe pm a mod to change the thread title because i can already imagine tons of people posting screenshots of the intro, unless you don't count those as spoilers.

You are right on the money there. In fact I think that is how I will do it too. I will probably mix MP in when I need a break from the SP.

I can verify this. It begins as Joel is injured with Ellie caring for him, and the prequel story of Left Behind is woven into the current events of Ellie alone during Winter, thematically.

This will be my first time playing TLOU. The screenshots look amazing and I am very excited to play it. But I want to enjoy the story and not get frustrated with it so I am wondering what difficulty to choose. Normal?

Imma bout to pop my ps4's bluray drive cherry with this game. Bought my ps4 almost a month ago and still sealed (wii u reasons lol).

Not gonna lie i dont see that much of a drastic improvement visually. Its probably because of this games art style. But subtle visual improvement dont bother me. As I havent played the dlc and i think 60fps in both sp/mp would be so good.

Hah. I know what you are saying - no I'm not buying every single version of every game. I just find that when a game strikes me as a classic or one of my tops of all time, I like a) owning the game in its original release format and platform (black label instead of greatest hits, etc) and b) Owning the absolute best/definitive edition of it. The only reason I have those 2 other copies of MGS2/3 is because they're the subsistence/substance versions that came in a box with a copy of MGS1

Normal. Start with Listen Mode Off and flip it On in the settings later if you really, really have to.

Seems like not having a Director's Cut mode that splices the DLC into the story is a huge missed opportunity.

Eh...The Last of Us was paced so beautifully that I really don't know if it would benefit from throwing extra sections into it. I think it's better that it remains separate.

An optional thing for veterans might have been cool, but for first timers that would completely suck. The whole point of that transition would be broken.

It wasn't really supposed to be a huge improvement. Basically just a PS3 game that is sharper/clearer and running at a better framerate.

Those are indeed spoilers. I will allow unmarked embedded spoilers after threeish weeks. The OP will also be getting some changes from what I pictured, outlining what a spoiler is (sections). You can still post them, but you have to link to it, rather than embed it.

I think i'll probably never experience anything like what this game made me feel in my first playthrough... but i'm anxious to replay it and to try and recapture some of that magic for a little while...

Really happy for this, PS4 ready and waiting.

Agree with this. It works well as a standalone piece, and I wouldn't recommend anyone play it until after they finish the entire campaign. That said - if like Shinobi you have already beaten the main game, (Main game spoilers)
taking a break from campaign to play the DLC during winter is certainly an interesting experience, one I might try

Story mode works better without Left Behind spliced in in my opinion. The whole
"Is Joel Alive?"
train of thought was really effective.
Once you've already played through it it doesn't really matter though I guess.

Excellent.

Eh, I don't think it should ruin anything. I still do remember the story decently well.

Without spoiling anything just play it before you play the original story if you remember the story pretty well. It actually fits better that way.

That's nice. Got it

Yeah man... This game was emotionally stressing. Fron story to environment to bits and pieces you pick up along the game. So many teary eyed cantdealwithit moments. That was good shit ND.
