Just to throw this one out there.. Nobody has claimed Prince Sable as an avatar! First person who claims it, obviously wins! (Unless you already did claiming for a character.)

Wow, a game I'm not at all familiar with. The More You Know.

Sakurai digs deep into the confines of Nintendo history for this series. I love him for that.

When can we expect an Ultra Hand item?

Wow, what a neat Assist Trophy! I'm proud to say that I recognized him immediately, hahaha.

Kinda cool to have him in. It feels like closure with the Original Leak from way back when that listed him as playable.

Pic of the day. In this Smash Bros. installment, this little guy is also making an appearance! I…don't know his name, but he's the Prince of the Sablé Kingdom. He's from the Game Boy game Kaeru no Tame ni Kane wa Naru (translated as The Frog For Whom the Bell Tolls), which was only released in Japan.

Here's the trophy of the Sablé Prince. He transforms into a snake or a frog, and unloads multiple attacks on any opponent he catches. Keep attacking your foes when they're trapped in his dust cloud.
FUCK, now I wish he were playable.

They were rare, but they existed. And considering that this game is being made by the same guy who gave us Jigglypuff, Game & Watch and Wii Fit Trainer I don't consider anything completely off the table until it's certain.

Yeah, no one's off the table when Sakurai is involved. I just had never seen this guy on anyone's roster.

I'll be honest, I had no idea who this was, and I have no idea what he will do as an AT even with that second description

These are the best kind of trophies/assist trophies, where a once 2D-only retro character is brought into modern 3D. Melee was full of trophies like this, but then Brawl started importing preexisting models from current games for most of its trophies. This is a nice return to form where we get to see sprites reimagined into models.

I have a feeling Google and Wikipedia have seen, and will continue to see, a spike in "Kaeru no Tame ni Kane wa Naru" queries for the rest of the day. The search activity for the game will probably remain elevated from here on out, too.

I'm guessing that when he transforms, he's surrounded by a dust cloud . If anyone gets close to the cloud, they get sucked in and then the prince whales on them, a la Gulpin or Waluigi.

I have no idea who that is but I like the design. Looks like the character could be reimagined and put into some sort of JRPG.

Another fun fact: Sable's game was developed by Nintendo R&D1 and Intelligent Systems. THIS MUST BE THE GREATEST GAME OF ALL TIME.

Holy shit a Prince Sable trophy?! They are pulling out ALL the things from the back end of the Nintendo Vault this time. Is it wrong for me to want to see them pull Mike Jones for a trophy now?

Holy shit awesome!! Prince Sable!! I actually just played through For the Frog the Bell Tolls a few weeks ago; he's always been on my "longshot retro rep" list but I'm glad to see him show up in some capacity. His first 3D appearance and he looks so good... with his cute little transformations, too!

Anyone interested should check out the FAN TRANSLATION (this is just the translation, not the actual game, so I figure it's safe to post). It's pretty quick and super cute; a hidden gem for the original Game Boy.

Man, I hope Smash brings about some revivals in our near future. I knew I wanted a Takamaru game, but now I'd love a game with Prince Sable that has a Ni No Kuni aesthetic.

Given that it was unlikely for this character to even be a trophy, I'd say this is one of the rare occasions where it's actually encouraging to see someone get the AT treatment.

Every time I see characters like this, I think to myself that Captain Rainbow would be a pretty awesome franchise if it kept highlighting these underdogs with hilarious subplots like the first one did.
