The Last of Us: Remastered |OT| Game of the Years

Just about to finish my second playthrough (first was on PS3). Still absolutely amazing. The first time was obviously a more emotionally powerful experience, but this time was far more fun as a game. Instead of being highly stressed through every encounter, I actually enjoyed the combat since I wasn't so on-edge at all times. Some would say that's a negative, but holy hell I'm having a great time.

Hell of a game. It still leaves me in awe.

Just got to the water logged hotel basement area! That's enough for one day. This segment is far too stressful and scary to take on after a long stretch of play lol.

had my first crash :(

good thing this game saves every other minute.

a remaster this is not.

lots of bugs

Yeah, I am very disappointed in how many bugs. I have had crashes, freezes, clipping, odd texture pop in, weird object pop in, sound layers disappearing, etc.

Really shitty. Hope for patches.

Surprised more people aren't bitching.

I mentioned the sound issues earlier in the thread, but no one corroborated at all.

Man! That sucks. The only issue I've experienced in that list is weird object pop in and it happened in one area. There's the usual dead guy clipping through stuff, but haven't seen any other clipping issues.

First time playthrough (all the way through) and just got the
ranch house
. Wow. So many feels.

Edit: Did get a complete freeze in some sewers.

yup - have seen plenty of that. this being my first time through, makes me wonder how much it's affecting my opinion on the game compared to what it was like on ps3.

two "fighting" mechanics i'm not a fan of, but can't tell if they are supposed to be like this or not:

1. after having a brick equipped, then choking someone out from behind, the brick icon still displays as equipped, even though the brick actually becomes unequipped...which it shouldn't (?)...it's made me waste so many melee hits... also, if I press R2 to throw I believe it shoots my hand gun not throw the brick.

2. I'm not a fan that if i have an upgraded 'crafted' melee weapon....it is always the first thing that gets used if I melee. even if I have a brick equipped, the one stop shop and drop shiv+melee get's used. wasted a few of those on runners and militia

Man! That sucks. The only issue I've experienced in that list is weird object pop in and it happened in one area. There's the usual dead guy clipping through stuff, but haven't seen any other clipping issues.

i've seen some buggy walls clipping in and out based off my camera...also, noticed some stretched UVs on some objects

hahah - i did the same thing... after a long sitting, I got there gave it a go...and said fuck that, i'll do it tomorrow. you just know it's going to be tense and take some nerves to get through....
funny thing is today when I sat down to play it, all I did was collect everything prior to generator, understand the layout, and run the fuck up to the "escape" door...easy peasy lemon squeezy

Wow, after experiencing TLOU:Remastered at 60fps, switching it back to 30fps in the game itself is so jarring. The 30fps mode in TLOU:R feels off, did anyone find it this way? I found TLOU PS3 30fps to be more fluid and smoother than the 30fps lock option in TLOU:R? Or am I just imagining things?

2hr55m 30% completed and the issues I faced were those strange environment pop and level of detail pop in as well. No crashes nor any audio issues so far.

I haven't had any freezes, clipping, or texture pop in. There is some object pop but it's only been noticeable to me in the same places as it was on PS3 and the effect is reduced.

BTW I think I may have found a fix for the gamma issue. In order for RGB range to be properly set, you need to manually switch it to full or limited THEN switch the Deep Color to Auto for the setting to actually apply. Switching them without forcing the DC setting before did nothing which is why there was no actual change.

I haven't played any of the troublesome parts of the main story yet but Left Behind didn't have issues and the MP maps that looked off before look considerably better now. The brightness adjust pattern also looks more accurate than before. Seems like it was a system issue and not the game. Will report back as I get to some of the problem sections. If anyone else can try it out let me know.

Photomode has stopped working for me, the intensity scaler does nothing and it crashes the game to the UI after about 30 seconds. I though a reboot would fix it but no...

Just beat the main game and I feel empty kinda like I felt when breaking bad ended. I guess its hunger for more. The whole ride was amazing. I just want more. Please let there be more.

Not everyone is going to run into the glitches. I only had a glitch once through the whole game, my camera kept turning itself.

Thanks for the tip! I'm going to try that because honestly, I don't want the stress of getting through that bloater and all his minions on a harder difficulty lol.

I've had one glitch where I shot a dude with a rifle and he flew up in the air and fell back down. It was pretty funny.

Going through the prologue and gamma is definitely a lot better. If anyone else can try what I detailed above and get back to me I'd appreciate it.

I had two glitches, an animation fuck up when Joel and Tess try to leave the town at the start, mid-cutscene it flashed back to their original positions. And in the sewers I decapitated a clicker and he still killed me, I watched his headless neck near Joel and magically Joel's throat exploded.

Can you go through a step by step? Just want to know, do you turn deep colour off first, then RGB to Limited, then back to Full, then turn Deep Colour to Auto?

I set RGB to Limited then turned Deep Color to Auto. Only then did it actually apply the setting change. If your sets support Full that'll probably work for you. For some reason it seems Auto RGB put itself in full after the most recent update and the setting won't change until you switch the Deep Color setting.

I see. Tbh aside from the demo level (that I played pre update, and was extremely washed out), gamma seems fine for me now. TV and PS4 are both set to RGB Full and Deep Colour Auto.

In the beginning of Boston now and it's looking right to me now. There was almost zero shadow detail here on my last run. This issue has been annoying me. Very happy right now.

Just got this. The visual improvements, while subtle, make the game even more beautiful than it already was. The first time you get out of the city walls was jaw-dropping. And is it just me or is the sound even better? Or maybe I just forgot how good this game sounds.

However (and I don't know if this is because I needed to restart the game after installing the patch/game install) but I've already run into a LOT of bugs. There's been some texture pop in, frequent frame rate drops, disappearing characters and objects in cutscenes, and this weird animation glitch whenever I grab someone from behind. I really hope that this is just some weird one off thing that will be resolved by booting it up again. And if it's not then this needs to get patched ASAP.

Anyway I dicked around with grounded mode and either im really rusty, or its really fucking hard. 1 or 2 bullets will drop you, it's super intense,

Next time I play though I'm gonna just jump ahead and play Left Behind since I didn't get to play it on PS3, so I'm really looking forward to it.

I also cant wait to fuck around with the photo mode as well, I'm gonna be taking a ton of shots I imagine.

I had a glitch during the cinematic where [Fall Spoilers]
Joel and Ellie escape the university. When Ellie guns down the bandit who's trying to steal the horse
, there was a very sudden WAH WAH WAH noise, sounded like heavy synth music or dubstep. Thought ND let Michael Bay have a crack at directing that cinematic or something.

Anyone calling the improvements subtle should get checked, I loved the game on PS3 but damn it looked ugly @ 720p, 30fps and full of jaggies, I was playing everything on PC at the time, buttery smooth 1080p 60fps downsampled like theres no tomorrow, so the limitations of the hardware were pretty striking, I appreciate what they did with what they had, still managed to pull one of the best games ever.

Playing this on PS4 and Damn, this looks gorgeous and plays so smooth, this is the definitive experience, do yourself a favor and play TLoU on PS4.

Put the difficulty level to hard now and listen mode is off as usual.

60fps makes a huge difference when aiming as does 14ms lag from my tv (sony w700b).

You know I think I had this too. I thought my speakers were going crazy. It was subtle but noticeable.

Any tips for knowing how much health you have on grounded? It seems Joel only starts to stagger when you are really low, don't know if there is an indicator for when it's like half. Just wondering cause I got punched twice by a dude and Joel went lights out, which seemed a little strange.

I agree, it's jarring going back to 30. Not sure if it's a mind trick from 60 to 30 or a crappy implementation of 30. Based on the sheer quality of this title I'm leaning towards mind trick.

It's just the sudden change of 60 to 30 FPS.
Wait one day, and change to 30 FPS before anything else.
It will feel like PS3 30 FPS.

For what it's worth, I felt like the 30fps mode in this game for the brief amount of time I set it felt worse than most other 30fps games I'm used to playing. Don't know if it was my imagination or what's up.

Nah it's just that its so jarring going from 60 to 30 that quick, give it a while and you would get used to it.

Hopefully you can take the word of those of us who have played both games on the same TV with both machines turned on and switched between them during gameplay.

Most of it is the shock of going instantly from 60 to 30. There is a slight motion blur difference. The thing is, on the PS3 version, it never really kicked in until the camera was rotating at a relatively high speed. Both versions have the same quirk. In some places it's would appear to be turned off completely (Prologue).

When I checked the Pittsburgh section, most of the time the PS4 version was smoother simply because it was holding the 30 frames, unlike PS3 25-30. The same dodginess happens when you switch from PS4(60) to PS3(30). You wouldn't believe the PS3 was not that smooth yet it's jank as hell for a little while.

I checked this directly because I thought the same thing, but after seeing the results, I would rather play 30 fps on PS4 than PS3.

Why care if other games handle their 30 fps motion blur better? All that matters is its comparison to PS3 TLOU. The key is testing these games at the same time, do not wait to put the other game in.

Most of the time we never see our games at different extremes like this. If you run PC games unlocked, you will still be getting a transition between extremes rather than an instant switch like here.

I booted the game up with the 30fps option turned on and played quite a bit.

I was wrong. It's not broken. Plays just like it did on PS3, only with no dips whatsoever.

I used to really dislike the first major encounter with the infected in Boston since it's pretty difficult but I'm actually thankful for that on Grounded. It helped me come up with new strategies for how to approach the encounters that I never thought of before.

I haven't started Grounded yet, but I know on Survivor, the light bar indicates your health. Green is good, orange is bad.

I hope any sequel doesn't
star Ellie and Joel, they could be in there if you visit Tommy's town but I'd rather not even that.

Actually, Left Behind made me want an Ellie's mom and Marlene story involving the forming of the Fireflies.

Sequel speculation:
If I had to guess I'd say that Ellie and Joel will both return for the sequel, it only makes sense from a marketing standpoint. Sure TLOU is a complete story, and doesn't really need a sequel, but the success of the game points to franchise potential - and the original game + Left behind paints Ellie as strong protagonist to carry the franchise forward.

If I was writing it I would have the player start off in Tommy's town a few years later, probably open with something like the deleted scene shown during the one night live presentation. You control Joel and sure enough something goes wrong with Tommy's town's defenses and all hell breaks loose. You fight hard alongside Ellie and Tommy but eventually the town is overrun and you have to flee.

I would also write in a potential love interest for Ellie that makes it out with you, just so you could have some over-protective father drama with Joel. This, in addition to the lie told at the end of the first game, makes Joel and Ellie's relationship uneasy through most of the early game.

At some point the three of them get ambushed by infected, Ellie and the love interest get into a no-win situation and Joel gets bitten while rescuing them. Joel asks Ellie to end it for him, but she refuses. At this point Joel reveals the truth about what happened in Salt Lake City, hoping it will convince her to kill him. Instead she leaves him to die alone.

She decides to head back to Salt Lake City to try and find any remnants of the Fireflies, hoping to eventually sacrifice herself for the cure. When they get there, the love interest figures out her intentions and tries to convince her not to do it. Resolute, she decides it's best to part ways and go it alone.

She gets a clue from Salt Lake City that points her in the direction of another potential research base. Along the way she encounters a few different scenarios where people are in dire situations is able to rescue them, becoming a hero to some.

In the end she gets there and of course, something happens that prevents the procedure from being done. Say some band of assholes come along to raid the site - killing many, while abducting women or children (maybe for meat like David's bunch). Alone and unable to fulfill her purpose, Ellie contemplates ending her own life.

Before she can, one of the survivors finds her and asks for her help to rescue the some of the abducted. Ellie agrees, and eventually succeeds, and in doing so realizes that she has found a reason for survival: helping others. With the skills she has acquired, in addition to her immunity to the bacteria, she becomes a warrior for people in the land of the dead

Grounded Update -
The Sniper
in the Suburbs

I shoulda mentioned I'm not using any health packs before, so I'm pretty much always in 1 hit kill mode. I really hate this guy.

"I STILL FUCKING SEE YOU"

Screw you man.

I just got to
The University.

Seems like Summer carries the brunt of the difficulty for my personal play style. No bullets or health 4 lyfe.

Anybody know anything about a Grounded trophy glitch on Bill's Graveyard? Everything else shows as being completed on Grounded. Graveyard doesn't even have any completion recorded on it. Checked the net, says to play that section on Grounded again through to High School. Did that but still no record of any completion whatsoever.
