lol. All you guys talking about "it's totally timed" are PC fans, right? Because if you're PS4 and arguing for that...

Even if so, I'd be surprised if we saw the game on PS4 before 2017. Which is sad because I was definitely looking forward to it.

I am both a TR and PS fan and i hope this exclusivity to be lifelong. ;)

I have both consoles but I'm still sorta annoyed because of no PC version. I'll likely wait for the inevitable PC release considering I'm really not that excited for this and it will be better on PC in every way.

Square Enix is unrivaled in having the most emotional fanbase.

I don't get it. They've jumped console platforms with gusto since leaving Nintendo for Sony and then hopping in bed with Nintendo again for exclusives like Dragon Quest IX and X and Crystal Chronicles.

This exclusivity move is not outside of their scope and their fans should he used to it by now.

So many people failing for Memes in this thread , it's incredible since i always thought those were well know !
It's indeed a conference day it seems.

Different things. One was something that can be obfuscated to a degree. Could be called his opinion (though it isn't something you can have a meaningful opinion about) but the other thing is something that either is or isn't...don't see how he could get away with lying.
Greenberg didn't say "it's exclusive for the lifetime of the title," he just said "no, here's what we said" and linked to a marginally different phrase.
If its a timed exclusive, the real problem is on the wording MS chose. Timed exclusivity deals should be referred as 'first on'. Otherwise is deceiving the consumer.
Deception is like one of the main points of times exclusives, lol.

Well this thread is going to be interesting.

Surprised to see a game as big as this be exclusive to one console. I wonder how much money it cost.

Now to go back and read through the entire thread.

Why are strippers at the U.N. bad when they're great at strip clubs???
How come I was able to pre-order it on Best Buy for PS4? :p

Ima sue Best Buy for false representation

This sucks but a great addition to the Xbone library

Xbox One exclusives have such sales, that their (SE and CD) previous disappointment with Tomb Raider 2011 3.5 million preliminary sales would be like a fairy tale comparing to the sales results of Rise of Tomb Raider.

This seems relevant again somehow:

I don't know how much the rest of you know about gaming culture (I'm an expert), but honor and shame are huge parts of it. It's not like it is in Hollywood where you can become successful by being an ***hole. If you screw someone over in gaming, you bring shame to yourself, and the only way to get rid of that shame is repentance.

What this means is the PlayStation public, after hearing about this, is not going to want to purchase Rise of the Tomb Raider for Xbox One, nor will they purchase any of Square's games. This is HUGE. You can laugh all you want, but Square has alienated an entire market with this move.

Square, publicly apologize and announce Rise of the Tomb Raider for PS4 or you can kiss your business goodbye.

Even better given that it's Square all over again.

Man like dude, they should be like in it for like, the fans maaaaaaaaaaan. for the love of the art maaaaaaaaaan.

Seriously though, what else would they work for?

Well, sometimes publishers try to fit the game to the console. some developers, at least in the past only liked to work on the most powerful console because they wanted to really push their game. And of course a lot of family oriented stuff was released only for the Wii, etc.

Clearly this is a timed exclusive. It makes sense for Crystal Dynamics so they can throw more money at development and therefore set Tomb Raider up as a premier adventure title for nextgen. MS gets the title all to itself for the holiday as well as a guarantee that every ounce of X1's potential gets utilized. PC and PS4 gamers get what we can assume is the premier addition of the game with no compromises to quality as well as other incentives.

Well Nintendo isn't exactly involved developing Bayonetta 2 either, they are funding it.

Is that a money a hat as well?
Well, that's why I mentioned caprice. Some of it depends on how you feel about Bayonetta and Nintendo. They are funding a game that would otherwise not exist. I'd say that's something else more akin to actual exclusivity. And there generally isn't any question about Nintendo's software coming to other platforms. Same goes for WWS. The only one of the big three with issues is MS.

“Rise of the Tomb Raider” (Crystal Dynamics).

Microsoft Studios is removed...
So timed then.

Because the sums that should be required to get something like this as a lifetime exclusive would, I imagine, be beyond what MS would be willing to pay. Of course there's always the possibility S-E just negotiated a terrible deal.

tomb raider will still be competing with uncharted for on ps4 or not.

I never said anything to the contrary. The deal must be big enough to alleviate their (CD's) concerns over the matter though. If anything, this deal just makes TR3 more likely. Sucks that you'll likely have to get a particular system to play it, but them's the breaks.

Could you be any more biased? It's all about the money, maaaaaaan.

Well, I made the mistake of thinking it was too far out of reach $$ for MS to spend. (I feel silly).

So nobody wants the game now, lol.

When more of us have PC's and PS4's it would kind of add up but there's nothing saying XB only consumers won't be interested. It's nice to see that it will be coming but my interest was already almost non existent but if it's at least coming down the line, I have at least a thread of interest.

I can't believe people raging over a distant sequel for a mediocre game being X1 exclusive.

MS needed an adventure TPS and it was cheaper to buy some exclusivity for Tomb Raider. It's an established brand and a not too bad game.

the fan's money, not the platform holder's.
call me a romantic, but one's sort of a token of appreciation from the fan to the creator, the other one's a cold strategic business deal.

but that's just imho, CD and MS can do whatever they want. gonna get an Xbone eventually anyways, just a shame that i might miss out on day-1-ing this game.

Ah alright that's what I was thinking as well, as Bayo 2 wouldn't exist without Nintendo supposedly. If Bayonetta 2 does come out on anything else it will be a long time, if ever.

The bitterness is amazing, though this is rather shocking. It is a nice move by Microsoft, SE liked seeing guaranteed up front money sooo...capitalize.
