Aw man, now I miss Vinnie...

Side note - on the bombcast before this most recent one, someone asked "So what are the big releases we've got left in 2014?" and they all listed off all the games they could think of... and Smash was not one of them. I was pretty upset. Anyone else?

You don't need to say anything more than "Are you serious?" if you have the picture, since it gets the point across so well. It's such a bad argument that it can be dismissed with a single gif.

But tact is important, too. Just posting a picture may be enough to refute an argument, but remember that you're not merely refuting an argument; you're talking to another person, so a little diplomacy is required. In a debate, your interpersonal skills are just as important as the validity of your arguments.

Posting a gif without saying anything or saying 'are you serious?' aren't pointing out fallacies. In my opinion, anyway. But again, whatever. If people think that's the best way to carry out discussion with other members far be it from me to stop anyone.

Did you miss the Dr Mario poster saying "... are we done now?"

Like why would I spend time writing a argument to it when I have a visual one just like his one, that does the job.

Haven't checked it out recently at all. Vinnie's not there any more though?

Other than maybe Patrick it never seemed like any of the people there were big on Nintendo though. So it's not totally surprising.

How is responding to a gif with another gif uncalled for? This is a ridiculous conversation, there's nothing childish or tactless about posting the Sunshine gif.

The GB crew's never really cared about Smash too much. Whenever Jeff's talked about it he just laments how they don't dig deep enough or weird enough with their character choices. I think he'd be a fan of Duck Hunt Dog but groan at Bowser Jr even existing as a character. He doesn't like modern Nintendo stuff, not a big surprise.

They'll probably have a good Quicklook for both games though.

Wow, some of the #Teamreal members are being completely rude about their positioning.

Fact is that we could just wait a little while rather than arguing about minutia. It's so close to release it's not even worth it to take the sides thing so seriously.

I think it does the job better, too. It communicates the idea quickly and effectively, and is immediately understandable. An image or gif is more eye catching too, while text can easily be scanned over and missed in the conversation. I think it's appropriate here.

I also miss Vinne. He is apparently all over the site. I don't browse their site because their videos don't really do anything for me and I just don't have the time. I wish they vwould just never him skype in.

But yeah that was pretty ridiculous. Smash is the release of 2014 to me. However it's not too surprising. No one on the bombcast is super into the 3ds or Wii U.

Vinny is in NY with Alex, they put out a decent amount of stuff and are getting the office together.

And Dan seems pretty big on Nintendo.

So which weapons would you guys like to see for Dark Pit? Do you think he'll get Pits old Up B, or just a slightly longer ranged one, or just the same with red sparks? What will be his Final Smash?

Images are typically what spread like wildfire across the internet as well.

When these comparisons come up like the Shulk-Little Mac, Wario, Mario-Dr Mario come up people just grab the images and skedaddle to spread them all over Gamefaqs, Reddit and whatever.

"Text only counter points? lol"

I would guess Dark Pit would have better aerials and better recovery than normal Pit, being that he can fly on his own. I don't know how his attacks would change, though.

Yeah Vinnie left for NY, still a big presence on the site but no bombcast anymore. Makes me a sad panda.

They hate skype for podcasts, and frankly, so do I. I've quit more podcasts because of bad skype call quality than for almost any other reason.

Jeff tried to give Link Between Worlds Game of the Year last year, and they've all played and have a kind of love/hate relationship with Animal Crossing... Jeff pretended to be excited about Pushmo World... I know they're not completely ignorant about Nintendo, I just wish they'd give them a chance. Their quick look of NSMBWii was so fun... and they all seemed to have a great time playing it too. Maybe that was mostly Ryan, I don't know... he had a super positive energy no matter what he was doing. There's good stuff going on over there and the whole "No one cares about Nintendo anymore" thing is a self-fulfilling prophecy, they don't talk about it, so it's not in the public awareness, so no one asks them to talk about it, so they assume no one cares about Nintendo anymore.

Aaaaand derailment over.

In general, it's blunt and dismissive. When you post a gif/pic without any explanation, it often comes across as, "you're argument is obviously wrong, I shouldn't even have to explain why. You should be able to tell from this pic just how wrong you are." On the other hand, taking the time to write an actual explanation (saying what exactly is going on in this pic you posted and why it refutes the other person's argument) is a sign you understand that everyone sees things differently, an that what seems immediately obvious to you doesn't necessarily seem that way to other people. It's a sign that you're willing to engage the other person in a dialogue, that you're willing to listen to what they have to say. Posting a pic without any text often comes across as simply shutting the other person down.

In short: it's a way of showing respect for the other person.

Random comment alert!

I've actually been hoping for an NES era alt for Toon Link. Toon Link looks great as-is, but his art style makes it possible to do an NES style alt without being too odd looking.
Brawl already had one similar to this idea.

But you probably already knew that.

heh, yeah I caught that. They didn't mention a single Nintendo game. This is the Bombcast we're talking about.

I'd agree it's more respectful to add some words in.

But there's a big difference between responding with gif of someone laughing or being surprised vs responding with a gif that specicifcally shows a relevant flaw in the other person's reasoning, and does so in an intuitive, concise way.
