The select screen in the previous games was similarly out of order when not all characters were unlocked. So an out-of-order screen implies more characters to be added.

The characters that are out of place are all clones, so it's not too much of a stretch to think they would be grouped. Also, there may be more characters, so it could fix itself eventually.

Impa, Ridley, Mewtwo, Dixie, Mach Rider, and Chorus Kids are all who I've seen brought up before in relation to this leak.

Nintendo didn't exactly treat Xenoblade well, so to have included Shulk in SSB is very surprising. Sakurai, you have such a good heart.

Duck Hunt Dog? That's a unpredictable choice, but it will be interesting to see what his move set is like. Bowser Jr was a character I fully expected to be playable. He deserved a spot after all his frequent appearances in 2D & 3D Mario games, Mario Kart, Mario Party and Mario Sports titles over the years. Glad to see ROB, Ness, Wario, Mr. Game & Watch and Ganondorf made it back into the game.

Seriously, calling a developer lazy, especially those who work at Nintendo and have put in more Game Modes, Characters, and Stages than any other game out there, is pretty ignorant. There are many criticisms you can put against Sakurai, but being "lazy" is not one of them.

I really hope Duck Hunt Dog is amazing. I can just picture his 8-bit laughter and hopefully having a projectile based attack with the light gun. He can use ducks for his double jump, or even use ducks for his toss attack.


And I NEED to see the Koopalings. I had hopes that they'd all appear in the clown car as a single character.

Of course it is. Smash Bros.' roster can't become worse, it wouldn't make sense to even make the game if it would.
It's sad losing Ice Climbers and Snake, but Pac-Man and Mega Man ALONE make it worth it. We also got 10+ other characters.

I think your friend is right to be suspicious, but the character select screen in Melee and Brawl didn't make much sense either until you had all the characters unlocked.
So I thought: This is either fake or real and incomplete. Based on the new evidence, 'real and incomplete' is looking more likely.

...But I suppose Mrs. Sakurai's skills at menu design could have gone downhill too.

Well both of them are apparently DLC so we'll see how its handled.

How is that even possible, though? Are the "cut" characters (so far believed to be cut) really so important that the newcomers don't make up for it?

There are more characters and the variety of franchises is larger.

Unless you have a serious hard-on for Snake and Ice Climbers then this roster is just about objectively better especially from a fan service standpoint.

In a perfect world Dark Pit would have completely different weapons and moves and Final Smash than Pit Lite but he wont. He'll have 90% the same exact moves with 10% different (most likely final smash) and just have different properties like bigger knock back or something.

Dark Pit should have just been one of those full alt costumes like Wii Fit man or Lady Villager.

Totally agree. I'm SO looking forward to see the moveset of Duck Hunt/Dog and it's reveal trailer. I was still hopeful to see Snake back but oh well. To be honest, I barely choose him on Brawl :(

I totally wasn't expecting Shulk to actually make it into the game (despite the rumors), so I'm pretty pumped about this! He'll be my main. :)

I thought the Chorus Kids were DLC?

If that's the rest, I'll be a bit disappointed.

Mewtwo - Cool, but there are so many Pokemon reps as it is.

Ridley - I've played a grand total of 3 Metroid games, I only finished one (Zero Mission) so I don't really care about any characters from the franchise.

Dixie - An obvious choice, but I think she would have been amazing had she been paired with Diddy and they tag team kinda like Pokemon Trainer.

Mach Rider - I'm all for reviving old school, but I've never played a Mach Rider game, so I'm not excited in the least.

Sadly, there hasn't been one character that got me really hyped. Maybe if I finish Xenoblade within the year, I can be happy Shulk made it in.

Ganonclone is nothing that shouldn't be achievable with the new special move modifications on Captain Falcon. Same with Dr. Mario. Same with Dark Pit.

Ganondorf deserved to be remade, or replaced with Ghirahim or another Zelda antagonist.

Personally, yeah. Of the newcomers I'm only interested in Robin and Mega Man anyway, so losing Ice Climbers, Wolf, Snake and Lucas isn't worth it to me.

The Roster may be huge, but I'm never going to use 10 characters. That's why I consider it to be the worst.

People I'm never going to touch, except for when it's required to unlock trophies and other characters:

Ganondorf (They've had three games to fix him for fucks sake)
Toon Link
Samus (Fuck Other M)
ZSS (Fuck Other M)
Robin (Fuck Awakening)
Lucina (Fuck Awakening)
Fox (Unless he handles a lot differently than he does in the other Smash games)
Falco (Same as Fox)
Dr. Mario
Dark Pit

It's funny. The only Smash game where I wasn't disappointed in the roster was the original.
