Pokken Tournament co-developed with Harada and Namco Bandai Announced for arcades

Btw, a rumor said that "Pokkén Fighters" was the name of Amiibo figurines that will come with the game which will add additional fighters to the game. That would be sweet, I hate paying for DLC fighter which I've already downloaded with the latest update. Now I'll get a sweet Pokémon figurne with DLC.

Half of the thread is explaining the "arcades lol" stuff, did you read it?
It will also be released for Wii U

Nintendo should have demanded a console version at the same time. Arcades are dead everywhere except one country in the world so this game will be irrelevant for a while. I don't see the upside for Nintendo letting Scamco make bank first at arcades, it's their IP after all...

Why are strippers at the U.N. bad when they're great at strip clubs???
You guys realize arcade location tests tend to make for better games when they come to home consoles, right?

shhhh logic does not apply here

Nintendo going the way of Sega, releasing their properties on arcades only and getting out of the console race. Nintendo 3rd party confirmed, it is known khaleesi.

The next Nintendo portable will come out in 2016 at the earliest. I can see it being announced next year, but that's it.
This really isn't the thread for that anyway and I probably shouldn't have mentioned it at all. Just a small theory based on market realities.

I wonder what the roster is going to be. Fighting game inspired by Tekken and fighting types definitely seems the most logical.

Do you think sales of a potential Wii U version will suffer in any significant way because of previously released arcade version? When has this ever happened for any home console fighting game?

I am not worried. I am upset. It is a nintendo licensed game to namco. Nintendo should announce from the beginning also the wiiu version. Nintendo should be more updated in communicating to their very few wiiu owners.
About FF, well for that I am worried.
It is foolish for N to operate like this for partnership games considering wiiu status..
Add FE x SMT and the picture is hilarious

Announcing a console version this early would make arcade owners wary of buying the arcade units since they'd feel that most people would just opt for playing the game first on consoles.

Better balancing, bug testing, getting feedback, good way to gain word of mouth from players. And do you seriously think that Nintendo WON'T make money from the arcade release?

not only to mention the balance testing and competitive feedback. Having a new fighter released in arcades and specifically for japan makes the game better (usually) in the long run.

Is there room in the topic title to add '(For now)'?
It hasn't been confirmed either, but boy, the amount of rage.
Or maybe 'READ OP' — and bold the note on arcades typically being released before consoles.

Nintendo will get a cut of the money, its not like Namco just gets to make money on an Arcade release while Nintendo gets nothing.....

Also are people forgetting stuff like Mario Kart GP? Nintendo and Namco have a very good relationship as far as Arcade releases go so this really shouldn't be shocking or worrying to anyone.

The arcade release tells me that Nintendo is serious about the game and wants to enter the FGC in full force. Its good news for the uninformed fans, albeit you will have to wait a bit longer.

That would have resulted in the console release potentially being a broken mess. Arcade releases are where they iron out the bugs & balance out potentially-over/underpowered characters. From there they can make the console release the best it can possibly be. It worked with the Tekken games, it'll do the same here.

Arcade fighters are better than console fighters for many reasons demonstrated in other posts.

I have a feeling that the Furious Fists TCG set will have an influence on the roster. Start placing your bets!

Other than the three we already know about, I think these would probably be good choices for the game, a lot of variety in type, design and gens. And this is restricting it to fighting types only for now.

-Wrestler Pikachu
-Hitmonlee
-Hitmonchan
-Hitmontop
-Heracross
-Breloom
-Hariyama
-Lopunny
-Toxicroak
-Gallade
-Conkeldurr
-Throh
-Sawk
-Scrafty
-Mienshao
-Chesnaught
-Pangoro
-Hawlucha

As for legendaries:

-Mewtwo
-Keldeo
-Meloetta

That's true, it'll be interesting to see if this is Nintendo's first full on "EVO-ready" game.

Do you guys want to know why Namco does arcade releases first?

- UMvC3, console-only release, had a metric crap-ton of glitches, even though a few were patched before the UMvC3 contract expired
- Injustice, console-only release, had a lot of glitches that NRS eventually patched
- SFxT, released on consoles first, had a lot of glitches, a few were patched
- TTT2, arcade first, worked out glitches at arcades, came to home consoles with little-to-no glitches & better balancing
- AE & USF4, arcade first, see TTT2

Harada & Namco actually wants the FGC to take Pokkén seriously, so an arcade release first with an eventual console release for the rest of the world (unless Nintendo chooses to fund an international arcade release, which could happen) was a good call on Harada's part. Now if only they can release an arcade stick that's actually wired (& no, the TTT2 arcade stick for the Wii U isn't wired). At least make it plug into the GameCube Adapter.
Part of it is also the money they make out of selling characters specific cards(to keep track with your progress with the character). Namco Bandai try to not talk about the console version until close to release, so people keep buying cards for as long as possible instead of waiting for the console version where they can play whoever they want anytime.

This guy gets it. Nintendo & Namco are serious about this game, they want the FGC to adopt this game & for it to have a long competitive life. The arcade release will ensure that.

At the very least, Pokkén is guaranteed for EVO 2016 if they keep up the good work.

Scamco? One of the guys producing this (Harada) is one of very few people fighting against paid DLC characters* (and similar junk), right? TTT2 bonus characters were all free time unlocks. This is a trust worthy team. The extra time TTT2 had in the oven made it a pretty damn well balanced title.

*someone's gonna mention Tekken Rev, you still don't have to pay, and it a completely diff business model

The arcade release is usually for balancing. Soul Calibur 3 didn't get an arcade release and it was unbalanced to heck, same with SCIV.

There is no downside to an arcade first release...

Home console releases typically have more characters, features, fixed fighting mechanics, and then some.

I'd much rather have that than a flawed fighting game. We don't want another Jojo's All Star Battle to happen where the game falls flat on expectations.

We should be happy that this is real and that we will definitely get an updated or definitive version for consoles.

inb4 Gen is the king of Pokken, JDCR's going down.

Did they say if they plan to release the arcade version outside of Japan?

No mention in the interviews or lifestream but some big arcades may decide to import machines much like they do with many games like DJ Maxx, BlazBlue, etc.

There will be a "release", but an official localized one is for consoles.

You want to get people thirsty for a game? Release it somewhere that only one group can play it and watch people go nuts over any footage that gets out. So that gets people interested for sure.

Then as has been discussed numerous times, balance checks are a big factor with arcade releases. Doing it this way can prevent some major issues from making it in to home console versions. In doing this it also helps Nintendo to not release a subpar product to the masses after heavy exploitation and use of the game has already been done by a wider demographic than an internal playtest group.

Assuming the game is good, after having a refined version and people watching and scrounging for any videos of the game in action they can find, you'll get a pretty huge initial release for the game on home consoles.

So tell me again how it's bad that Nintendo is basically getting it set up so that the version they get is the one everyone wants?

Exactly what he said. Harada is one of the most trustworthy developers in the FGC. Pokkén is in good hands.

It just occurred to me that Lucario, the pokemon shown in prettymuch every shot of this game so far, takes double damage from fighting moves :3

I'm sure this will eventually be on the Wii U. At least if they're smart they'll port it to the Wii U soon after.

On that note, I wonder if typing will affect game play at all?
Lucario will probably be a glass cannon.

Anyway, hopefully they incorporate non-fighting-type Pokémon, or else they'd miss their chance at Pikachu (who's pretty much the face of the franchise). Likewise, many other Pokémon like Jigglypuff, Greninja, Mewtwo, & Charizard are popular enough to justify their inclusion in Pokkén (even though most of Jigg's popularity comes from Smash). Greninja is too perfect for this game despite not having a fighting typing, & Mewtwo does have a fighting-type mega evolution.

I hope it's not a fighting type only roster. That would suck.

Weavile, roserade, rhyperior, marowak, gengar, golurk all make great candidates.

... I'm loving these cross overs though

Zelda x Musou
Shin Megami Tensei x Fire Emblem
Pokémon x Tekken

What's next, Resident Evil x Luigi's Mansion?

There's so much they could do with non-fighting types. There's some great variety in 'Mons.

What's next, Resident Evil x Luigi's Mansion?

Please don't mention that jokey, cheesy, chaplin-esque terrible excuse for a 'horror series' to a true survival title like Luigi's Mansion.

The video just make me upset about Machamp. While blocking he's not using his other two arms. You could do so much with those other two arms!

Now, THIS is something that I think will remain to be seen.

I mean, it's cool that some competitive Smash players are already seemingly on-board, and I even saw Justin Wong tweet about the game an hour or so ago about how he wanted to play it.

I just hope it will actually translate to having a decent and consistent community being built up, if the game is actually good. If it got at least a good portion of that Melee crowd...

Looks fun.

Though I think a soul calibur style gameplay would have worked better than Tekken

Gen VI: Chesnaught, Delphox, Greninja, Florges, Aegislash, Hawlucha, Diancie

Unexpected additions: Pikachu (don't see Pikachu being the mascot of the game in addition to Pokemon Conquest or Rangers), Jigglypuff, Snorlax, Farfetch'd, Mr. Mime, Wobbuffet, Oshawatt

Reading this thread tells me most people know jack squat about how fighting games usually are released.

That's true, but Nintendo need this game ASAP not in 2016.

Release on Wii U in 2015, and you know actually patch the game 6 months later. It's not like the majority of people who will buy this will stick with it for longer than a few months, they'll go back to Smash/SF/MVC etc

Or do people think a 100 or whatever arcade centres is better feedback on balancing than a million + first week sales on the Wii U. The majority of players won't give a shit about broken characters or that insert pokemon got 1 frame shaved off his poke thanks to arcade balancing. They will never get on a level for that shit to matter.

It's not like Nintendo can sit on a game like this for a year after arcade release.

It's going to be fun to see Harada work on a game that requires more SF-like mechanics.

Arcade backlash in here is pretty dumb. It's one step in potentially making this game huge.

EDIT Oh god what did Jynx do to Machamp

She used Lovely Kiss, of course! Jynx is far more likely than people think. She was re-trademarked last year before X and Y came out, so everybody, myself included, assumed she would get a Mega Evolution because every other Pokémon on that list got one. Needless to say, I was pretty disappointed when I found out that she was literally the only Pokémon on the list that didn't get a Mega Evolution, but maybe this is why they trademarked her?
