Not sure why people think it may not get released on the Wii U. Why else would Nintendo have a trailer on the NA page? We would only have a Japanese trailer if it was arcade only.

I'll be honest, when i was a kid in the R/B era I really wanted a fighting game starring fighting type pokemon because of that Primeape episode.

I'm actually happy this game is being developed.

That's true, but Nintendo need this game ASAP not in 2016.

Release on Wii U in 2015, and you know actually patch the game 6 months later. It's not like the majority of people who will buy this will stick with it for longer than a few months, they'll go back to Smash/SF/MVC etc

Or do people think a 100 or whatever arcade centres is better feedback on balancing than a million + first week sales on the Wii U. The majority of players won't give a shit about broken characters or that insert pokemon got 1 frame shaved off his poke thanks to arcade balancing. They will never get on a level for that shit to matter.

It's not like Nintendo can sit on a game like this for a year after arcade release.

So you're saying that instead of Nintendo nurturing the title, testing it in the tried-and-true way and trying to build up a competitive and casual fanbase who are fanatic like Smash, aiming for the quality that they're generally known for... they should release it as an untested cash grab?

You're bonkers, IMHO. Nintendo can actually afford to sit on this game for a while, too.

I'm pretty sure that people who frequent arcades and play fighting games give better gameplay feedback than the average Wii U owner.

This game is obviously Wii U bound but playing devil's advocate the Mario Kart Arcade GP games from Namco also got english/western trailers and releases.

Nintendo should have demanded a console version at the same time. Arcades are dead everywhere except one country in the world so this game will be irrelevant for a while. I don't see the upside for Nintendo letting Scamco make bank first at arcades, it's their IP after all...
I didnt know Japan and South Korea were one country.

Namco makes massive bank on arcade releases. In fact, games like tekken and gundam make more in arcades than they do from the console release.

From a profit standpoint, this is great for Nintendo. Make money in arcades. Release console version 6 months-1 year later. Make more money.

One thing I like is how Machamp looks

Most of the time his abs are either non-existent or squeezed so much that he looked deformed, and that his arms and shoulder are way too out of proportion. Here he looks perfect, and even has an existing abdomen!

She used Lovely Kiss, of course! Jynx is far more likely than people think. She was re-trademarked last year before X and Y came out, so everybody, myself included, assumed she would get a Mega Evolution because every other Pokémon on that list got one. Needless to say, I was pretty disappointed when I found out that she was literally the only Pokémon on the list that didn't get a Mega Evolution, but maybe this is why they trademarked her?

Ah forgot about that move.

I was completely wrong and I'm guessing we'll see this on the Wii U in 2016. Nintendo will probably make bank in arcades though.

Also, it really seems like a lot of you guys don't understand the arcade market lol.

Tekken is like the fighting game version of Starcraft in Korea lol.
How big are Tekken rosters usually? Should I hope for around thirty characters?

There's no reason to believe it will be bigger or smaller than Tekken roster. Making 30 characters would probably be too much for them.

...And you would certainly pay attention to that refined musculature, wouldn't you, my friend? C:

But seriously, I really do love how the character models are shaping up so far, as well. So far, we seem to be dodging the notion of how Namco's 3D modelers don't live up to the awesome of its 2D source.

Did forget those but the only appeal for them is actually playing them in the arcade. They are bare-bones racing games with arcade specific features to make them fun for a dollar or so. While almost all fighting games get arcade releases first.

You think that this is going to build upon the TTT2 Wii U engine or something totally new? I hope this has some badass Tekken soundtrack lol.

T1: 18
T2: 25
T3: 23
TTT: 39
T4: 23
T5: 36
T6: 43
TTT2: 60

From Wiki. Thirty characters is probably too many. They're going for mass appeal and don't want to keep things too complex, a large roster makes the game tougher to learn. Somewhere around 24 is probably the sweet spot.

I someone attributing a quote to Harada saying it was a new engine, but I can't find a source on it. Not sure.

I get the whole "test it in arcades and release it on Wii U later," but it's just like, let me know when it's gonna be on a platform I own, thanks.

Cool that it exists. Hard to get too excited until I know I'll be getting to play it soon without finding the nearest arcade to me (~100 miles).

Interesting, thanks! It was just...I was wondering if that's why we got TTT2 on Wii U in the first place. It was an interesting port in any case!

I am going to be among the many who will main Lucario first.

Then Hitmonchan and Hitmontop, but only if they make them close as possible to Steve and Eddy.

Well, I'm glad they announced Tekken 7 before this, or I would be annoyed.

Tekken has been building up it's roster (and the complexity of said roster) since 1994. Don't get your hopes too high.

According to Harada, the game doesn’t use Tekken’s engine, and is something completely new. It won’t focus as much on the fighting game genre’s technical aspects, and will be mainly about the action.

According to Siliconera's article, it's brand new:

I'd also err on the side of 20+ characters max. Beyond the work entailed, there's no reason for them to blow their load that soon. Once the game is a proven a success, then maybe we might see a sequel that blows the lid off and has the roster blossom to near double that amount.

And if you're a SoulCalibur fan, it's just one more pinch of salt on an open wound.

I'd rather they let it die than continue to disgrace it.

Tekken rosters nowadays are quite massive, but that's because the franchise has been going on for decades. I don't think we should expect more than 20 characters for this game. I think they will add more for the Wii U release whenever that happens.

Tag 2 had like 50
Expect like 15 on Arcade, but once it hits Wii U.. Expect a lot more. But this Harada we're talking about. We could probably hit that number.

Tekken 6 had like 40. Tekken Tag 2 has 59 total characters I think.

Yeah, 24 sounds about right for the console release. Four pokémon for each generation.

Thanks!

So basically they're dumbing the game down compared to other fighting games. I don't really like that idea.

I wouldn't read too much into that statement.

All it sounds like they're doing is making it more "approachable". So that people who don't play these types of games often won't get scared off immediately if they don't know the first thing about 1-frame links and the like.

Persona 4 Arena is another example of a game that "simplified" some things compared to some other games in ASW's catalog, and it wasn't the worst off for it.

Tekken is one of the most complex and ridiculously tough games to learn on the market. Learning frame data, juggles and familiarizing oneself with the roster is a huge barrier to entry, again, especially with Tekken. This may not be a bad thing at all.

I'm gonna guess at least 18 Pokemon in the roster. Works in two ways, one character/type, or 3 characters/region. I imagine they'll want to represent most, if not all, types and regions, even if a lot of types are with characters who are dual-typed.

Yeah, definitely not a Tekken engine. The characters fight a bit too "2D".

I just find it weird that he has no stomach in most of his official appearances XD

I actually like that idea. There are enough traditional Fighting Games out there. Trying something new is always good in my book. This doesn't mean it won't be competitive. It's just gonna be easier to get into.
