Nintendo Downloads - August 2014

FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU.
Goddamit. Ain't that a bitch?
I don't like that. I don't like that one bit. Why couldn't he take Olivia? She's basically just a doormat.
Most peoples first play through are marked by an undesired marriage for Chrom (usually to Sully). It is a rite of passage.

Pretty much the only guaranteed way to get Olivia is have Chrom paired with no girls before Ch11 then pair with Olivia, maybe use the friendship seed (i.e. know about it beforehand which would mean looking things up and ruining this surprise and maybe others if you're not careful).

After chapter 11 for story reasons, Chrom will marry whichever female character (out of the main character, Olivia, Sumia, Sully, or Maribelle) he has the highest support level with, assuming they all aren't married already or there are no support points between them and Chrom.

LOL I finished the game months ago but I didn't know this. My Chrom married Sumia (thankfully) and I had assumed it was a storyline thing haha

Will wait and decide then.

I got Fire Emblem and will get NAN next week.

It is my first Fire Emblem and holy shit...it's so good. I bought it blind and was expecting a "typical" jrpg with permadeaths but I was completely surprised by its gameplay. I haven't even touched Demon's Souls since I got FE.

Would you also recommend the Wii game?

For those that are interested, my 1st Wii U game, ZaciSa's Last Stand, has it's first major patch released sometime today (no idea when, but sometime today). Will include major changes, but most of all re-balances the game to be more fair early on and adds 2 new maps to bring up map count to 8.

Full details if anyone is curious: http://www.zenfaproductions.com/2014/08/zacisas-last-stand-patch-1-01-notes/

Edit: Patch is supposedly live now. :)

I never did mention I bought your game and thoroughly enjoyed it for a couple of hours last week. I'm going to give it another shot before bed and see if it'll be a little less brutal for me now :)

Edit: Am I crazy or did you do away with the option of tweaking the priorities of the bots?

Edit 2: Well whatever adjustments were made I was able to enjoy a decent length game at least! My high score on Space Station 001 is now 57,012 which is much better than my previous 7,978 :p I didn't realize until near the end of my game that multipliers can be stacked, so I'm definitely going to have to make use of that soon.

Would you also recommend the Wii game?
Most definitely, yeah. Keep in mind that the Wii game is a direct sequel to Path of Radiance, the GameCube Fire Emblem, so check that one out as well if you can. These two are excellent games, but any Fire Emblem that you can get your hands on is very much worth your time.

Translating one of the games there is an interesting drawback. You have to use the code within 150 days of purchase, after that it expired (I don't recall ones for sale here in Europe doing that, outside of promotion of course). That would explain why Bayonetta 2 seems to be the only thing t0o buy that is not currently out.

Hope they roll this out soon for EU/US.
There are a few places in Europe which currently do it, even the physical slips (though when you see things like £50 download code for Nintendo Land next to a boxed copy for fall less you wonder why they bother).

Finally got around to trying ZaciSa's Last Stand...

Yeah I somehow accidentally got rid of the closest/low health/etc options... Woops! Luckily for this game, those options aren't that useful. So for now, they are all stuck on "Lowest Health". Glad your enjoying it though. :)

Today is also the last day for the sale.

By the way, I bought it a few days ago. I totally suck at tower-defense games, but your game is so good I just keep trying ^_^

The Fall, Azure Strike Gunvolt (with nes style spinoff crossover), Mario Kart 8 Mercedes (for free) and colored Yoshis and Shy Guys.....

I don't even need to know the virtual console games this week xD

Steam World: Dig HD
Mega Man X3
DK Junior Math

Should be this week's update.

The VC games for this week are confirmed to be Mega Man X3 and DK Jr. Math.
Given how they played this in Nintendo minute (their theme this episode was back to school meaning super dodge ball was the other one) I wonder if this is a case of Nintendo minute (they're part of marketing) fast tracking the game as it would be sad to play a game that isn't coming out for months.

Ask me about the GAF Notebook
Looks like nothing for me this week other than the free Kart stuff. Granted I caved on Guac Super Turbo last Sunday so I still have that to play.

IMO of the stuff coming I had the most fun with the Fall actually on PC. I'd put Steamworld Digg next. I liked Steamworld, but didn't love it like some. Azure didn't get positive impressions from the import thread. People were either disliking it early on or just meh on it even when it got better.

So glad August is over. Now we will have more chances at other VC games since the MM promotion will be over.

Still would recommend Nano Assault to those who haven't picked it up yet while it's on sale. Have had more fun with that title than either The Fall on PC or SWD on 3ds.

The Fall is just part one, right? I heard mention of a sequel but due in part to the incredibly google-hostile name I haven't been able to find confirmation of one, what it'd be called or what.

Should I get Kirby's Adventure while it's hot or save money for the incoming SMTIV?

Also the last one occupies ~ 14000 blocks I heard, so I will probably need a new SD card just for it.

Kirby's Adventure is amazing for the SNES, though still a bit clunky compared to 16 bit kirby games. Controls more like Kirby's Dreamland 3 than KSS (that's not a positive frankly, and I don't just mean the multiple attacks per power thing). Decently long with a proper save system unlike most NES games, I definitely think it's worth a few bucks.

You can get a 32GB SD card for <$20 or a 64GB (pretty overkill for 3DS) for ~$40, dead simple to switch too.

It says "to be continued" at the end, but it works as a self-contained thing, too. I assume the developer is still going to put out more parts eventually, but I don't know. I hope it does well for them because it's pretty great.

Not to rag on DK Jr Math (... too much) but why does Nintendo insist of porting really poorly received and rated games to the VC? I'm sure they have data on the types of games that the general demographic of gamers that purchase VC games are. It just seems like kind of a troll move to put out something that the core market has no interest in.

Wouldn't those efforts be better served on putting out games with more universal acclaim?

The worst games we've ever played will always invoke happy memories in someone, plus Mario Kart's DLC would have overshadowed anything, may as well make it a release few care about.

I do concede that the likes of this, the early sport titles, Yoshi and such shouldn't bear the same price tag than winners like Super Mario Bros 3, Punch-Out, etc. If these stinkers were up for impulse buy prices you'd see much more people getting them even if just out of curiosity.

To be fair, they're running out of viable first party games. A while back, I created a list of all first party NES, SNES and GBA games that haven't come out on Wii U yet, though it's focused on Europe.

I may have missed a couple. I used to agree, especially at how bad the releases were until I created this list. Then I realised that, seeing as third parties have to push out their own games (this is happening more now, especially in Japan), Nintendo needs to spread it out else we'll wind up with months where there's nothing. Sort of like what's starting to happen with the GameBoy and GameBoy Color Virtual Console on the 3DS

So, when you look at the list, you really have to think how things are getting. They need to get third parties to start pushing their classics.
The only reason Japan gets so many titles is because they had more out there (many weren't localised back then) and third parties are seemingly more inclined to push titles there.

Well, despite that, they could still start releasing N64 games, or even start releasing GB/GBC games on the Wii U eShop. Maybe even Virtual Boy (if such a thing is possible and feasible at all). Even if they're starting to run dry on those platforms, there are options. I don't mind the trickle so much, but I do have to agree, some of the stuff they release can be pretty low tier junk that few want. Which, you know, whatever, but they should at least start price scaling if they feel they are running out of viable options. Or try harder to get third parties back on board. I don't get why they don't push to get Dragon Warrior's Nintendo catalouge on there considering their relationship with the IP.

That is why we need the N64 to release on the WiiU VC. That and more 3rd party support. Think they ran into issues after they announced N64 support or just taking their sweet time? Either way is unacceptable.

Star Tropics and Zoda's Revenge will almost certainly still come. The rest of the holdouts, who knows.
Super Mario RPG and Murasame Castle are a certainty too. I think NES Play Action Football is likely too, as are Lolo 2-3 from Hal.

The big question marks are DKC1-3 and Sim City due to their Wii delistings but given Nintendo still seems interested in similar titles and licenses on 3DS VC (DKL1-3, Tetris) I think they might happen. Perhaps they'll even be relisted for Wii VC too.

Tetris Attack is another one I'd really like to see if licenses permit. As would be the Super FX trinity (Star Fox, Stunt Race FX, Yoshi's Island) if the SPD emulation team can be bothered.

Fucking Super Mario RPG. I'm just going to assume the only reason it's not available yet is because Square Enix is being a cunt about it. No idea if that's true, but hating Square Enix comes easily to me.
