Indie Games 2014 [August] Now Voting - Post 353!

Toma

Let me show you through these halls, my friend, where treasures of indie gaming await...
Voting August!

RULES THIS MONTH IN SHORT: Up to 10 games, at least 4.

Why?
Because we want to offer people who first step into the thread an easy go-to list for great games. Plus it gives more attention to the titles that really deserve it.

How?
Everyone votes on his top 10 games out of the ones that already have been released AND are mentioned in the OP (So everything in Post 2). I'll tally the results and put the best 5 in the next thread. A minimum voting count of 4 is required. Feel free to vote for games that you deem "important" or the ones that you enjoyed the most. Since this is a rather communicative thread, feel free to include a short description why these games ended up on your list or a "honorable" mention if you feel that one game deserves another mention even though it wont count for your list. That way it would also make it interesting to read which games we should check out that others might have enjoyed. You dont need to "rank" the 10 games. Every list entry gets 1 point for the overall ranking.

When?
This thread is still open until the end of the month, so you can drop your list in here whenever you want. You can also change your list up to the last day. I wont start the count before the last day of the month, so everyone has still time to revise their lists and play some games. Speaking of which, if you dont even KNOW 7 games to vote for, there are plenty free games in the OP to check out. Most of which are rather short too. Use the remaining week to catch up with 1 or 2 titles you didnt get around to yet!

Which?
Since the list got rather long, here is the complete list of games to vote for for this month:

You're a mountain.

It's hard to keep track of all games being released but these ones were on my radar previously, except Mountain, but this one looking curious so it may be worth of a mention here.

Not this madness again.

HopSlide - Free (PC)

http://www.ludumdare.com/compo/ludum-dare-30/?action=preview&uid=3479

HopSlide consists of two games.
In Hop you can explore a large, blue world. There are some platforms to jump on, springs to launch you into the air, a mysterious map room to investigate and two doors (but they don't seem to go anywhere).
In Slide you can slide some colored blocks around. There are some markings on the blocks (but who cares what those are for). Slide doesn't come with any music so maybe you should leave Hop running in the background.
Hop and Slide are definitely not connected in any way.

Toast Time - $4.99 (PC, Mac)
ss_6e876cd9bef76c06ec10eb94af072cc2aab0ad32.600x338.jpg

http://store.steampowered.com/app/316660/

Toast Time is a throwback to the golden age of video games where old-school homebrew titles fused arcade action with a distinctly British sense of humour.
An appetizing arena shoot-em-up garnished with tower-defense elements and served warm with awesome-sauce (probably syrup).

Bond - Free (PC)

This top-down shooter lampshades the danger of things like Stargates by having the player defeat wave after wave of enemies.

Didn't get to play these as much as I'd like, since I've been having laptop issues and started classes again (only three days a week, though, woohoo)
Shwip
This is a solid shmup. Hectic gameplay, a visual assault of particles and enemies. Smooth controls, fun weapons, and just intense arcade action. Eager to see the finished game

Proxy Blade Zero
Gameplay seemed like it lacked depth, but overall was an enjoyable action game from what I played. I liked the visuals and animation flourishes in the combat as you dodge and parry attacks.

We Are Doomed
Another really fun shmup. The glitch visuals are cool and stylish, controls are responsive, and the gameplay gets very frantic and frenetic as enemies flood the arena. While you only have two weapons - a short range laser-sword esque beam and a screen clearing superbeam that needs to be charged - it's the varied enemies and visuals effects that makes We Are Doomed stand out.

After that, I’m going to try to take it to some other festivals and events, because I’m really designing it as a party game that’s best played in person with a bunch of other people around. Dog Park is actually only one piece of a larger, dog-related project, however, and when I’m done with this piece I’m going to start figuring out how to get all of it out to people who can’t come out to these events.

Anyone have any good recent-ish (in 2014) indie horror releases to recommend? I'm itching for some good scares after reading some of the PAX impressions of Evil Within. As a disclaimer not really a fan of the slender man collect the whatever to up the spooks style of gameplay but most other styles are up my alley, the more atmosphere the better!

Ah, yep. You were right with Mind and Words for Evil, thanks. Sharp memory ;)

Never saw him around here, so I figured mentioning it might be worth a shot :p

Thanks for the recommendations, I played lone survivor a bit when it first came out but didn't make it too far. I should give it another go. Claire certainly has my interest piqued.

Maybe indie gaf can help me out in tracking down this pretty obscure flash game. It's quite short takes maybe 5 minutes to get through but has some of the best atmosphere I've seen in a game. Kind of has a lynchian vibe with the pacing, you can see what appears to be a werewolf slowly stalking you from behind as you make a short journey outside a home, across a wilderness area, and into another structure where you need to get an object, which I think is to repair a TV in the starting area. Death can come swiftly if you don't know the right patterns for movement and interaction. I know this is vague info to go off of but hoping one of you might know what I'm talking about. I do know it was released within the past year or so. Hope that helps!

Seasons after Fall - 2015 (Windows / Mac / Linux / Consoles download services TBD)

Seasons-after-Fall-Summer-2014-1024x576.jpg

Gamescom 2014 Trailer
Devlog

Seasons after Fall is a game about adventure and exploration, crafted with gorgeous two-dimensional visuals.

As a wild fox, you will travel across the countryside, through lush forests and quiet rivers, taking advantage of the changing seasons. Of course, this wild fox can run, jump and yap, but the real difference is that it will obtain the power to change seasons, anywhere, anytime. How and why? Well, that’s exactly what you’ll discover by playing.

So like the nature of its in-game ecosystem, The Stomping Land is extinct
http://m.neogaf.com/showthread.php?t=887252

Stuff like this gives EA a bad name, when you have trustworthy hard-working devs working on games like DoorKickers, Prison Architect, Invisible Inc, XenoRaptor, etc. People are quick to damn Early Access as a whole, but really it should be judged on a game-by-game basis. If/when Rain World is released on Early Access, that's a dev and game I'd support on a second because I know from the dev's work ethic and his devlog, that he's going to get the game done.
