The group is very small. more people on GAF than any where else. I don't get the love of RE6. it is/was a total mess and didn't do anything for the series. Reason why I do love the way they are going now with this game.
Shooters are popular on GAF. The shooting mechanics in RE6 can be pretty fun.
Doesn't mean I think it's a good game (it's not) or a good RE game (it's a terrible one), but I understand why people do like it. Ultimately, is it the right direction for a supposed survival horror franchise? Obviously, no.
I mean in gaming period, but even if we focus on the series, how is gunplay that is made more difficult by the camera a point in classic RE's favor?
Granted, puzzles are significantly dumbed down.
You were saying the horror was outdated, that the tension level established in the older games could be considered "trash" now.
But how has modern gaming made that better? I don't see how making it easier to aim and making puzzles require little-to-no thought has made games feel more tense in modern times. Not to mention linear level design, overabundance of ammo, gratuitous checkpoints, QTEs, etc. None of those things have been a positive addition to the survival horror genre.
I'm not saying that
nothing from classic RE can be modernized. There are certain aspects that certainly are outdated. The problem is that they haven't modernized anything from the original Resident Evil games...the characters are the only thing left, everything else is gone.
