[SPOILERS] Dangan Ronpa 2 Spoiler Thread | Aloha, Despair!

What does witch burning and getting hit by a fire truck have to do with gambling?

Tsk, tsk. It was all a mockery of her dream. She prided herself in acting like she was more than she was and all she ever dreamed of was living a fairy tale life in a castle somewhere. I think burning at the stake in some sort of bigger than life witch trial and then having it all crash down thanks to a fire truck with a ridiculous bear behind the wheel was a perfect execution.

Not denying it was a great execution thematically for her personality. Just had nothing to do with gambling. Something like a giant roulette wheel or whatever would have been more fitting if we go by talents.

Something like that. If it was wasn't related to their skill, it was closer to their personality. At the very least, you could tell/felt she actually died.

I guess the only other execution that you could say didn't fit a "theme" was Kirigiri's, but even then, that was meant for Makoto.

Valid point. I guess my point was that Mikan's made no sense when the others (including some of the ones from the artbook that talk about executions they'd have for characters that survived or were victims) felt related to their skill or personality in some form.

Though that is still considered Kirigiri's execution and not Makoto's. And it's more related to her character (headmaster's daughter, etc, etc) than her talent, then again you could just say it was still ??? for the hell of it.

Makoto's execution involves a box and lots of swords.

Believe it or not, the fact that their names are anagrams for each other is a coincidence. Crazy, huh?

I really don't believe it actually.

Why does their execution have to be related to their talent? It's more meaningful if it's more related to who they are as a person. People aren't defined by their talent and for some of the characters (Akane, Hiyoko, Makoto) their talent doesn't have much to do with their actual self at all. The executions should be reflections of what the character is, not their talent. The characters' talents aren't all that important.

Last time I checked, accidental meant "happening by chance, unintentionally, or unexpectedly."

The way I see it, looking for a name that was "suspicious" means that making it sound suspicious was the goal from the start, naturally leading to the anagram. That doesn't sound accidental to me, which is what I think of when someone randomly stumbles into something.

I think I read somewhere that the name is only an anagram when spelled with kanji, and the names were all spelled with hiragana during the development period which caused them to not notice the coincidental anagram until much later.

Either way, I'd buy that it's a coincidence. I'm pretty sure they would've outright said "we chose a name that's an anagram of Makoto's to confuse people" if that were the case.

Other way around. It's an anagram spelled with hiragana and completely different with kanji.

It's probably a coincidence but they sure were lucky to come across it along with the same super duper talent and same voice actor too.

The word "accidental" leaves absolutely no room for doubt. What you're suggesting is that he stumbled onto after deciding to make the name suspicious, right? If that were the case, he would not have used the word "accidental."

Not to mention, this line "By the way - his name may seem quite suggestive" seems to heavily imply that it was in fact an accident.

Well apparently the anagram is just an accident.

Based on the scans:

「怪しくてかっこいい名前になるように考えたら、偶然にも例の彼とのアナグラムに」
Basically loosely translated as 'while thinking of a mysterious and cool name for this character, it accidentally happens to be anagram of the main character'

Edit: More akin to 'we are looking for cool name, found one, then found out that it's an anagram'

You're darn right I am. I'm putting my complete trust in Nagito's Luck.

I am too. He had such a high level of bad luck in being purposely named after Makoto that he got to follow it up with the extraordinary good luck of being an infinitely more interesting and better character than Makoto.

100% truth

Incidentally, I wish the Nagito spinoff manga was fully translated. The events of DR2 from his perspective? I am all about that.

In reality, it's not really that hard to be any more interesting than Makoto.

It's called Super Danganronpa 2 - Nanami Chiaki no Sayonara Zetsubou Daibouken.

There's also a bunch of volumes of 4koma and anthology collections for both games. I need to start buying the Danganronpa 2 sets of them soon.

Well shit

Makoto still wins against Hagakure and possibly Akane as well depending on what you think of her as a character.

I call bullshit. Yasuhiro may not be any deeper but he's a joke character anyway so whatever. Akane is far more interesting than Makoto.

I agree with you but a case could be made that she is a joke character too. Even her backstory that you learn from her FTEs only needs to be there so that her being a Remnant of Despair makes sense.

I disagree. Her FTE backstory spoke more to me than 75% of the other characters. It was just sad to see someone go through that kinda stuff and not realize how much people have taken advantage of her.

Danganronpa universe would break Sora. Dude would give into despair so fast if Junko ever got to him.

"As long as my friends-"

"Your friends are all dead."

"Oh. Well....that's okay! They'll come back! As long as I have a strong heart they'll co-"

"Heh. No. They're gone for good. And your heart doesn't do shit in this place."

What's the event that's between "The Three Who Look Back" & "Mahiru & Hiyoko Bathing"? Is that from Island Mode & getting the "best" ending?

Edit: Aw man, I can't level up via walking & such from Island Mode. & I'm at level 91. Guess I'll have to go back to Ch. 1 & just walking until I get to 99.

You can still level up. I know this because I've literally gotten the notification in Island Mode a few times already, lol. Just doesn't show you your current level or progress.

Weird. I did notice that it still counted the steps for the pet.

& just checked, guess it does, as it says I'm now at level 92. Guess I'll hold right & let it level up. Hopefully it'll still count while I'm in this mode.
