FAST Racing Neo (Wii U) : first screenshot

They removed the part stating 2014 from their site so it would be pretty surprising if it made it.

hmmm...

maybe they realized that with WipEout gone as well, they could potentially make a killing releasing this simultaneously on Wii U and PS4.

I just hope the gameplay is good.

Also, the course doesn't look interesting YET (from a gameplay point of view). So... I'll keep my expectations in check.

The course looks not interesting in single picture! So what ;-) This part of the course will likely be raced through in three seconds. Hopefully the course will be longer than that ;-)

So this graphics will be Full-HD with 60 FPS?

Technically impressive.

I don't think they can reach 1080p at 60fps. let's see...If I remember correctly, Nano Assault Neo on Wii U (launch title, must be said) was 720p and 60fps (while they were ble to uprez it to 1080p for PS4 port)

They didn't do much in terms of optimization (edram swapping etc) in Nano assoul Neo IIRC. This one could possibly reach 1080/60 with no AA.

Don't worry, nobody knows a gosh thing about this game, you're not the only one ;)

Game is indeed a futuristic arcade racer.

last gen they have made FAST racing league - an FZero style futuristic racer, and Jett rocket (3D platformer) on the WiiWare digital store. These were consider really good knowing that WiiWare games had a file size limit of 40MB. They done a lot of working around small constraints to get decent results.

They just released a trailer for Art of Balance on Wii U (eShop) this week. And have made nano assault neo (eShop, PSN)

They are pretty good at squeezing the most out of hardware and their games have been generally well received. Not bad considering it's 5 or 6 guys working on these titles.

Their games are solid but not spectacular. Mostly they're notable for kind of being technical wizards.

FAST was fun, though, and since we're not getting F-Zero any time soon, I'm keeping an eye on this.

Considering that they're still doing games for Nintendo's systems though I assume their games are profitable?

Also the name FAST Racing Neo kind of sucks. I'm still kind of interested now though.

Didn't they use only 1 of the Wii U cores for Nano? With that level of wizardry, I'm expecting 1080p/60fps without breaking a sweat.

I don't think having an extra CPU core will make up for a GPU bottleneck, but as you said these guys ARE wizards, and Sakurai got Smash to run at 1080/60.

Yes, they also built up alot of good will with nintendo owners, tho they seem to be testing it porting a game to the PS4 as they're known for geting the most out of a single nintendo console and thats their main gimmick, but aslong as its a late port they should be fine.

where did you understand that from?
The track cuts off and there is a pink "energy" strip above that part off the track, suggesting you have to flip upside down to make the jump. I could be wrong, though.

Edit: The more I look at it the more it appears the pink part is on the track below and the track only cuts off on the left, forcing you to jump using the pink section or banking right.

i like shin'ens graphical abilites and usually their style but I don't know why they focus so much on the background when in the end it's all about the course. Also, the course doesn't look interesting YET (from a gameplay point of view). So... I'll keep my expectations in check.

I dunno, the two seconds I'll spend on that section of the track are sure gonna be amazing!

OK come on:

  • Fast Racing Neo
  • Fast R Neo
  • (rotate the N - the console in question can now stand on its side)
  • Fast R Zeo
  • (Jump the R three spaces forward as we know the game was on 3 console generations previously)
  • Fast Zero
  • F Zero

I'm not sure, but are you saying that Half-Life 3 is confirmed?

Stop It

Perfectly able to grasp the inherent value of the fishing game.
Wow, who needs F-Zero?

Um, it would be nice to have both.

Anyway, one screenshot is not enough, we need videos of this in action. Seriously I've been hoping for info on this game for ages and I hope the game can deliver some awesome racing.

We have reached Half-Life 3 levels (kind of).

Half Life 3 confirmed.

I bet anything I own that Fast Racing Neo won't be as good as F-Zero X or GX.

So yes, even with this game, we still need Nintendo (or Sega) to make another proper F-Zero game. It skipped a generation, it's time to come back. Waverace as well.

You are working on a racing game yet present a environment screenshot (which looks great) as first piece of media?

It's been mentioned before, but the first piece of media is actually a car.

And as far as a trailer, totally agree that that'll be the moment when it's really on, but I'm actually kind of glad they didn't put a crapload of media out yet when it's not ready to release or talk about. People are complaining about the length of the tease, but the thing is, the game didn't ship, and the studio didn't try hyping it all along. They simply put up the teaser site, took some questions, and spent the rest of that time making the game. Probably when the teaser went out they thought they were further along and then had to pull back, but I prefer a quiet studio that says "we're fine, things are coming along, don't hold your breath but do put us on your wishlist if you want to see more" than a studio that's manically trying to sell you a product which it doesn't even know will deliver on the hype. Here, the car looked cool and gave us something to get hyped for, the track landscape looks good and shows off the engine without overdriving interest in the game, and when they're ready I'm confident they'll have a trailer that actually kick things off proper.

How was the first game? I saw screens and it looked great, but the general consensus I got was that it was too difficult.

It was very impressive technically, considering the 40mb size limit, but gameplay wasn't all that strong. Motion steering and a rather shallow color changing gimmick held it back, in my opinion. I also found course design and enemy AI lacking.
edit: apparently motion controls were optional.. my bad!

You guys do realize that this is made by 5 guys and not a team of artists, right? Plus they are probably doing the netcode all by themselves too. This isn't the work of a 100-member team, it's a handful of guys from the demoscene. It wont have the scale or budget of a graphical showpiece you are used to, like Infamous SS (that has plenty of glaring flaws itself). Why not just relax and appreciate the work of 5 guys trying to bring you a ,most likely, $10-$15 eshop game? I'm sure you'll get a trailer when they are ready to show it in motion.
