'Nomura on his departure from FFXV: "It was the company's decision, I can't say anything more than that." (@aibo_ac7)'
They're using Nomura's pre-production that he built over the years and letting somebody else take the glory of it all.
Nomura must be mentally destroyed at this point.
If you think about it that its pretty despicable and borders on abusive.
But I trynot to think about it because I don't want to hate the game itself.
Is some ways this game didn't have a "clean" release and Its actually pretty tragic.
This is tragic all over imagine the game gets praised and Tabata gets all glory.. Shit idk what I would do or think if I was Nomura.. I would probably say fuck this I'm out.
Hell yeah I wouldn't stay another minute in there.
Taking away an artist's vision is one of the worst things you can do to him.
Its almost inexcusable.
But we don't know enough details so maybe its not that bad.
At least I hope not.

This is kind of what I mean.
Nomura gets a co-director on two huge projects he's mostly responsible for. One of which he's uncomfortable with being announced so early since he knows he has to finish FFXV first, before he can move on. And Kingdom Hearts 3 can't really happen without Nomura, and he's basically stated as much in the past I believe. It's his franchise too when you think about it.
FFXV, on the other hand, is past pre-production and the story, concept, ideas and everything are effectively done. The core vision is in place and most of the production is about the development aspect of it now and executing that vision, and putting in the hours to get it done, and cutting whatever may not work.
At some point, SE realises just how ridiculous it is giving one person so much work, and makes the call to move Nomura to focus on KH3, since FFXV has most of the foundation there and just needs someone capable to carry on and finish it. Whereas with KH3, the foundation isn't set yet, and they're still probably working on scenario, worlds, and other parts of the core vision.
which sucks because its the fault of the overall structure and not necessarily nomura....yet he is the one clearly suffering for it.
He'll literally missing out on all the oscar buzz that FFXV is getting and returning to his cave to work on KH3.
....

Even if Tabata gets credit, I'm glad to know who really laid the foundations for the game. Nomura's work may not be well know with the masses but it will never be forgotten by enthusiasts.
I always felt that xii was their warning that their work flow/ methodology didn't translate to bigger projects. Whoever (whomever...? Oh god >.<) was in charge of identifying such hang-ups at the time doomed SE to this series of unfortunate events.
I hope so too, best case scenario everything was pretty much done core story, combat those sort of things and tabata stepped in for the final touches/polish so nomura can focus on getting out kh3 in a timely fashion. But if it was otherwise I would be crushed and couldn't work for a company like that.

Nomura = Dicaprio at this point.
At least he still has KH3. I remember the original director for FFXII got nothing to return to after his sickness.
the best we can do is honour FFXV and buy it.
That was actually really well designed, but in my mind all I can picture from SquareEnix are actual FF characters fighting alongside Lincoln.
He deserves to make it for the launch party of the game and take a lot of the glory.
I wish we fans could convey our gratitude...I guess the best we can do is honour FFXV and buy it.
I hope Nomura leaves after the Xenohort Saga is done. Then Sony can poach him
and other former SE devs, thus forming a super JRPG first party studio :3
Get Sakaguchi on board, along with Kentaro Yasu.
BTW, does Yasu's departure have anything to do with Nomura being taken off FF15's development?
Nomura I pledge to buy a copy In your honor.
It really does suck...
I guess this is the reality of corporations.Art doesn't survive in pristine form in such money driven, calculated environments.
'Sickness'.
Just like Tanaka was sick.
You mean more of him working with Square or more of him altogether. I can bet if he leaves Square, many studios would be interested in snagging him. Hell, not even in the game industry. If he becomes a freelancer designer, I can see him being contracted to do art design and direction for anime and maybe even movies(create costume and monster design for stuff). I can def see him having a well rounded career like Amano(not just stuck in the video game sector of entertainment). It might even do Nomura some good to branch out. I think Square's holding him back. One reason I don't want Nomura to leave SE is because we could potentially never see more of him if he does leave.
I love his character designs in big console games and leaving SE can only mean one thing : MOBILE GAMES.
yup.Same here.
Tabata's future game concepts sound terrible.
Ultimately, I do want to create something based on real historya Final Fantasy game based on real history, for example, Tabata said to Siliconera recently. For example; youd have the American Civil war as a back drop, and then behind the scenes all of these Final Fantasy-type characters are utilizing their special abilities to fight. I really love that kind of setting. Thats the kind of game, I really, really want to make!

You fightin Shadow Hearts: Covenant. You fightRasputinin Persona 2.Hitler
Just because the game features characters who are based on real history doesn't mean it can't work.

While Nomura carries some blame, I wouldn't necessarily blame the game's long development on him. If you don't have the resources for it, you can't ship a AAA JRPG,even if you have 10 years. There's only so much a small team can do.
However, I think it's problematic that he barely has a fully featured vertical slice of the combat system after 6 years. The 2011 trailer, and the snippets of the combat system shown... was rough, no matter how promising it looked.
You don't have HD towns, no rich monster assets, no large world maps to show, fine. But after 6 years, the game should at least have the core battle system finalised and easily migrated to a full game once the resources are actually there.
It honestly felt like even in 2012, that "combat vertical slice" did not exist. Not in a way that lived up to his vision.
The 2013 Battle trailer demonstrated that vertical slice. They had the city in the 2011 trailer, same with monsters.
Hell, everything they've shown from this past while has been from the 2013 trailer behind a gambits system.
I'm following the narrative of the time when Nomura was the sole director and the game was cancelled in 2012, and repackaged as XV with Tabata joining the team.
Because based off what Tabata said, he's positioning himself as the one who came up with a better vertical slice that got greenlit.
I don't understand, gameplay in 2013 and 2014 trailers looks exactly the same.
It's a mix of Nomura and SE mismanagement, really. I'm just tired of people thinking Nomura is suicidal or something and their judgment becomes clouded.I'm definitely on team Nomura but at the end of the day there was a history of him and this project of not finalizing big aspects.
(Worldmap, cutscenes, designs, battle systems and probably even more),
If that continued even after the platform switch and with KH3 needing dedicated attention then at the end of the day pretty much all other companies would take similar course of action.
not really, other companies would have canned the entire project years ago lol

Considering for a minute there he wanted to turn FFXV into a musical back in 2012, he might've been losing it a bit for a while.
Ugh, all this stuff about Nomura makes me sad. I really like his designs and the things he's done. Hope SE can appreciate that too.
End of the day the core fans know of his massive role in the project. It will always remain his work.
Yep. It's like FFVII, while Kitase was the director, fans always give credit to Nomura for creating Cloud and the rest of the crew. I'm sure fans will associate FFXV's world and characters with Nomura as well.

I don't know much about the previous game development process but was Nomura behind the characters themselves? I know he drew Cloud and Crew but what else did he do in FFVII.
Argh! Containing my anger regarding this is extremely hard to do..

How epic would've been if Toriyama replaced Nomura on this project? Neogaf will go wild. Even if Toriyama's games are actually better than Tabata's ones (well except for Type-0 that I never got to play yet ).
The story will be incomprehensible and there will be time warp inserted for no reason.
