Ryse isn't an open world game and very linear in comparison to how Sunset Overdrive looks.

I know but even factoring in SO is open world, I have a very hard time being impressed and understanding why this console can't run the game at 1080p.
I wish Microsoft did not cheap out on the hardware.

Forgive me if this is a stupid question:

Is it possible to tell the difference between 900p and 1080p in a living room setting?

Second Son says hi.
This game seems to be packed with a shit ton more content, animations, effects, enemies on screen, and a larger world than SS.
EDIT:Oh I see that was a driveby post.... -_-

I think this game looks fun and I'll pick it up, but to this day I'm stunned at how MS's engineers were able to release such an undercooked system in such a big box (that still has an external power brick) in late 2013.

It can do three things at once and had to stay under 500 bucks retail. Not really fair to say its undercooked.

Game looks pretty fun and will probably review well. If I can pick up a crazy black friday Xbox One deal, this will be on my list.

lol just no. SS doesnt get any where near chaotic and fast as Sunset Overdrive.

I haven't played Sunset Overdrive (have you?) but Infamous: Second Son is at the very least incredibly fast. Neon Powers! The 40fps framerate absolutely helps there.

It's an issue that these threads blow up but ones with gameplay don't.

That's because it's easier to argue bullshit about relatively meaningless metrics than the important core things that we all care about when we actually play the game themselves. Besides, PS4-only/X1-hating folks have to win some kind of argument to make themselves feel good about living with their decisions with home entertainment products.

The Amiga Brotherhood
Insomniac Games were never technically accomplished if you look at their PS3 titles. Quite a few of their games ran sub-HD.

Resistance 3 = 960x704 (QAA)
Ratchet & Clank: Tools of Destruction = 960x704 (2xAA, AA samples used to reconstruct 720p)
Ratchet & Clank: A Crank in Time = 960x704 (2xAA, AA samples used to reconstruct 720p)

Considering there was a thread back in June, yes

Really isn't considering this news originally came out back in June.

Well there was additional content not present in the title. Also not sure it's up to you fellas what constitutes a thread.

What would the difference look like? Does a 900p resolution create artifacts/blurriness etc?

If it's not the native resolution of whatever device you're watching it on, yes it will be less sharp than a 1080p image.

Thought this was known for a while? Am I mistaken?

I could've sworn at some point they said it was going to be 720p, 30fps. It looks like we got a bump in resolution.

Snark aside, so long as the AA is well-implemented, it's not a dramatic effect at traditional couch distances. On a monitor though, you could see it more clearly. My 42 inch setup is fairly close to my seating, and jumping between something like Second Son and Ryse, the resolution is probably the least influential distinction between them visually.

That's an interesting take on things.

What else explains the energy thrown in these kinds of threads with so many who claim they don't care or don't ever want to own the platform or games in question? Only thing I can think of besides people trolling and arguing to kill time.

because I'm not going to sit 3 inches from my screen and count pixels? I just wonder if it something that is actually noticeable or just message board fodder.

It definitely noticeable. If you have a PS4/XBONER start up a game and switch the resolution from 720p/1080p. You'll see the difference immediately.

It's easy to talk about something objective than something subjective, like resolution vs. whether or not you like how something plays.

You seem to have an issue with assumptions. I don't know how you came to this conclusion otherwise.

Infamous SS isn't a 60fps game.

Yes, but that objective point doesn't actually mean anything if the subjective thing that matters most is the whole point of the product in question. No one buys anything for its resolution, but they do for its entertainment value.
