*The* Toad persisted long after Toads became a species, just as *the* Yoshi hasn't been buried under his species. It is true, though, that Toad did start getting eclipsed by Toadsworth post-Sunshine, and then by Captain Toad post-Galaxy. At least he still shows up in all the spinoffs.

Anyway, you guys probably don't have any questions since we know pretty much everything about the game now, but let me know if so!

This game is stupid fun, by the way. I've been unable to play anything else on my 3DS since I got my review copy, even though I got Theatrhythm Curtain Call right before it and it's been one of my most anticipated games of the year (along with Smash). It's really just a technical marvel; the fact that Sakurai and his team were able to get a game with this much content that looks and sounds this great running so smoothly on the 3DS - even with 3D on - just fucking astounds me.

Also, where are we at on datamine leaks? I've seen the text dumps that seem to confirm that an "in-game shop" (DLC) is on the way - no surprise there - and I know crowd chants for the cut Brawl characters were found... anything else?

I was wondering where you went. So far I've only seen one of the videos of you guys playing. Have yet to see the Smash Run video.
There's one thing I've been wondering, and I haven't seen anyone try it before. Is there anyway for me and a friend to play together in team battles against other random players? All I know is that there is a team battle mode in For Glory mode. But you get paired up with random people for your partners.
Have you found anyway to unlock custom moveset quickly?
And what's your best control layout?

I know Reddit had a top 5/bottom 5 / tier list prediction discussion going. Of course a tier list this early on has barely any data and will obviously change, but I do think talking about who we think is great/terrible is fun.

That's an unfortunate consequence of Nintendo's recent presence in the scene. I've no doubt they'll push for the new game at next year's EVO. Doesn't mean Melee won't be there, but it might be relegated to a side stream like PM was last year.

It's no different than something like Street Fighter IV being played instead of 3rd Strike.

Well...yeah of course.

I think a tier list prediction is fun, and obviously subject to change.

I'd put Ganondorf, Olimar, Ike at bottom at the moment...hopefully we see some tech and/or metagame changes around them so I can see more potential from them. I also don't feel these characters are terrible either, just might be bottom compared to everyone else.

ZSS, Shiek, Greninja seem like good contenders for top. I'm skeptical about Duck Hunt, Rosalina, and Bowser being top, maybe just high tier, mainly since the more I play with them/against them I can see some matchups being bad for these guys moreso than ZSS/Sheik/Greninja.

Little Mac is a toss-up. Terrible recovery and air game, but it might not even matter in the long run if people know how to abuse his armor/counter and early killing potential.

EDIT: Also Palutena definitely feels like she's top tier potential with custom moves on...without I dunno.

I didn't know there were multiple Bandana Dees now! Really excited for Rainbow Curse, though.

Honestly, I'd be all for Bandana Dee as a character; I know there's higher priorities in terms of DLC and new characters, but I wouldn't complain if I saw Bandana Dee getting in

Can't really make a full tier list with such limited data, but I don't see why we can't have fun predicting. People thought Ike was top tier early Brawl time, Wesker in UMvC3, etc. Always funny to look back.

All I want to know about the US version is if Magicant still has the Mother 1 thingies in the back that the JPN version has. Doubt you guys can talk about that, though.

Wow, I only have 4 hours played in the demo. Mostly because my friends ragequit and the fact that I find the demo champions pretty boring.

Man, you guys are fanatical :p My total playtime with the demo is 7:40, which includes however long my brother spent playing it.

I'm gonna get wrecked in these gaf tournaments lol

Given how the scene still exists after thirteen years, I highly doubt it's going away just like that.

I mean, I can readily admit I experience some frustration with Melee fans as well...but hey, more power to you in what title you prefer.

The whole stage is based off of a location from Mother 1, so I doubt it :p

Well yeah, the scene won't just magically disappear just because the game doesn't end up at EVO... It's just likely for Nintendo to push the new game if they're going to sponsor the event again this year. If we're lucky, we'll get both, though.

APEX will be great in January though! Possibly 5 Smash games at one event!

Okay then, my somewhat out-there predictions:

Top Tier:
Greninja
ZSS
Sheik
Rosalina
Diddy Kong
Jigglypuff
Shulk
Villager
Sonic

I think in the end the light and fast characters are gonna come out on top since they'll be able to chase offstage for early kills. And once people learn how to use Shulk he's going to become a monster.

One Tier below top (so A?):

Meta Knight
Bowser
Duck Hunt
Lucina
Dr Mario
Palutena
Pac-Man
Fox
Falco
Olimar

Just the characters that will probably be really good but not top tier good. As for Olimar, he was good in Brawl and probably hasn't been tested enough yet.

I don't know, they just seem like bottom tier characters that will get ignored.

Everyone else is somewhere in the middle.

I'll check this in 1 year and it'll probably be nothing like this :p
