Anybody crash to desktop at incredibly random points?

I'm hoping it's that I'm playing it off of an SSD that has maybe given me issues in the past.

lol. For some reason that sounds really funny to me. Although from the looks of this game it shouldn't give anyone any trouble at 4K if they have the rig to support it. I think I'm going to pass. I don't like having to fiddle with games I just bought to get them to run properly. I like to put the game on High settings and get to playing. Too bad too cause the game looks kinda interesting.

i put everything maxed and used the simple 60fps unlocker and went, game runs perfectly. dont take the word of 1 person as gospel

You're running 60 FPS at 4k?

no, but I dont think the user in question wanted to run 4k anyway. just because the game doesnt run 4k perfectly doesnt mean its not worth getting in my opinion.

Also, is that cheatengine thing safe to use, sounds like something valve would frown on

Do you have to run Cheat Engine every single time with the game to keep the POV at 90? or does it save the first time you run it?

No you have to do it each time unfortunately, unless I'm doing something wrong. But I really needed this fix so I'm good.

There's a FOV-fix, made by K-Putt!

https://www.dropbox.com/s/0n1lc42nu1x1ixw/EvilWithin.CT?dl=0

Works great without black bars (you can remove them by using r_forceaspectratio 0 via launch options, the config.cfg or the console).

It's a Cheat Enginge-table, so you'll need Cheat Engine.

Comparison screenshots (sorry for the superdarkness):

Default FOV, black bars

90 FOV, no black bars

Props to K-Putt for putting this out!

Do you know if it's possible to downsample while using the fix? I have been feeling slightly queasy with the default fov, so it would be nice to do something about it while retaining the downsampled IQ. Thank you!

Eh I guess its a small problem to put up with. thanks! also, The default fix is at 90 already right? or how many times do you have to tap + for it to get to 90?

I'm just gonna put my bit here:
Rig: GTX670m (3GB) i7 16GB RAM
Game settings: 720p, AO on, AA on (all seem to have similar performance impact)
FPS: 30 locked and stable... kinda, dips in the more intense areas (maybe 3-4 times during my 7h romp)

Here's hoping to ppl finding solutions to this unoptimized sack of technical crap. Game itself is pretty good though, the black bars should have been optional though. Eh, what's up with id Tech 5 and being as stubborn as a rock anyway?

I never used Cheat Engine before, can you still earn achievements with the program active?
It's safe. Valve really only cares if it's VAC and multiplayer. This game has neither.

And I don't see any reason to worry about not getting any achievements either, since there's no record of anyone being punished in any way for cheating or using managers in order to earn achievements!

Yes, you have to run it every time. You can easily make an executable trainer though. (edit: the trainer linked in the video posted on previous page is apparently malware, so watch out)

You'll still have to run it each time, but the process will be easier. If you want to make it even easier, you can make a shortcut that starts both the game and the trainer at the same time.

Yes, it's totally possible.

Fantastic work K-putt, great to see something functional in there.

@Grief It won't disable achievements. It's a 3rd party application that most games (especially single player games) don't even recognize is running. It basically edits the actual memory of the functioning code as it's running.

How does one remove the noise filter?

Should be in the settings

The FOV fix works fine, thanks K-putt =)

I've made a comparison video :

Would just like to point out, the link in this video for the trainer is a malware program, just tested it out on my Win 10 machine (luckily) and it installed 4 malware programs, changed my internet homepage, added 2 internet add-ons and made 4 folders in program files containing various things with weird names.

Don't download the linked trainer.

EDIT.
The link that was to a malware post has been removed, the only link in the video now is just fine.

I think Cheat Engine is just generally loaded with shitty bloatware. Even on their homepage installing it requires you to juke at least two programs by doing a custom install.

The cheat engine one was fine for me, it had 2 tick boxes that gave me a choice to install toolbars (still don't like those though - at least i could avoid them), the trainer link is strait up malware though - the "trainer" program just runs with no options at all and installs a load of malware programs and 2 of them are ones that add new malware during the uninstall of the old one (well dodgy)..

Uh dude, which trainer are you talking about?

The CT file is a Cheat Engine table and not an executable. The only other linked thing was Cheat Engine itself, which if you get from their homepage is safe.

You may already have adware installed that's linking you to virus filled stuff because I don't see anything virus related on the dropbox or the Cheat Engine site.

Edit: In fact, the link in the video is just a link to the Neogaf post from the last page. I think you may have already had a virus which is redirecting you.

He means the one linked in the video's description.

It links to the Gaf post from the previous page.

No the one labelled trainer was linking to a post on guu3d in which it provided 2 links to a supposed trainer - both linked to malware programs that installed a lot of malware.

Fortunately the link on the video has now been removed, which is why it appears to be just linking back to the other page.

Ah okay, my mistake then. It seemed like a really serious accusation for evidence that was no longer there, which was why I was a little edgy on it.

Yes, i removed the link although it worked for me (i used it for the video), i didn't get any malware and i don't have any strange folder.

The Cheat Engine installer could install some malware if you don't disable the options...

Weird, perhaps the person you linked to changed the links after you posted them? (the post that had the malware was edited couple of hours ago) - Its not just me who reported this, in the guru3d thread a few others have posted the same thing.

The cheat table is working just fine, I'm using that now - it was only the trainers that mallwared me.

I don't know, it could be something else you click (and download) via the download site. They're often a bit shady, so you gotta be careful what you're clicking on and downloading - and most importantly, what you're running.

That or the poster actually changed the link.

My Cheat Engine installation didn't include anything.

Is anyone else having major problems running this? While playing my game continuously stutters especially during cutscenes. It's getting pretty unplayable. I have a GTX 780, an AMD 6100 at 3.3Ghz, and 16 gb ram.

I've been looking forward to this game for a while but only recently did I learn about the weird aspect ratio. It has prevented me buying the game today because I don't know which version to get. I want to get the PC version so I can modify the aspect ratio and FOV but I'm not sure if my PC is up to the task.

Is anyone running it with a setup like mine? It's a mix of older and not as old (but still not that recent) parts.

i7 920 OC at 3.8Ghz
16GB RAM
Radeon 7870 2GB

My PC is getting old but I'm not ready to build a new one, I want to wait until next year to do that. If anyone is running it on a setup like mine or knows what I can expect I'd appreciate some feedback.

FOV fix is beautiful, especially when combined with r_skipglare. any value above 85 and I'm blinded by my lantern, though. thx K-Putt.

reminds me of The Order or something.

You should be able to run it at a stable 30 FPS at 1080P with no problems. Your graphics card is ~15-25% more powerful than a 750 Ti which can run the game at 1920x1080 at a mostly solid 30fps especially if you turn off reflections

Well if I edit the config file with the 60 FPS command will it still work if I take off the console enabling code?

Yep. From the OP:

C/Users/account/saved games/tango/evil within/base/config

g_fov "100"
R_swapinterval "-1"
R_forceaspectratio "2"

Forces 60 FPS and a bearable Aspect Ratio without destroying the FOV, no need for the console command.

Btw if you like the FOV change through cheat engine there's also one for Shadows of Mordor: http://community.pcgamingwiki.com/f...th-shadows-of-mordor-cheat-engine-fov-script/

Sounds like 85 is a good compromise then.

Someone says it breaks the zoom on
the rifle
, can anyone elaborate?

i never used it the functioning way, but it doesnt seem to have any zoom with this fix enabled. the scope comes up, but it looks weird. its still an accurate sight though, and i was making long distance shots with no zoom

may be harder with a controller, though.

Regarding the supposed malware trainer from Guru3D: the guy who made it claims that it is indeed the download site that is the source of the malware - not the trainer. You never know whom to trust on the internet, of course, but I took a look at it and it seems true enough. If you choose the wrong download link ("use our downloader pls it's much better"), you get the malware - if you choose the correct link, you get a trainer with no traces of malware.

Be careful out there.

Well if I edit the config file with the 60 FPS command will it still work if I take off the console enabling code?

Yeah, if you add the r_swapinterval (framerate unlock) command in config.cfg, you don't need the console-enabling command - as long as you have the line "+exec config.cfg" in the launch options. I don't think the game cares about the config.cfg unless you add that line in the launch options - it doesn't for me anyway.

You probably just clicked the fake download button instead of the real link, just like some people in that thread. It's not uncommon for filesharing sites to do that

Why don't I have a config.cfg file yet that I can edit? Is it because I've not started a game yet?

You have to make one yourself :)

The fastest way is probably copying any existing .cfg file in that folder, and renaming it to config.cfg (and then removing anything in that .cfg and replacing it with whatever you want to add).

Anybody crash to desktop at incredibly random points?

I'm hoping it's that I'm playing it off of an SSD that has maybe given me issues in the past.
I only crashed when I adjusted the graphic options.

Other than that, so far so good.

I'm playing default 30fps at max. More stable.

Do me a favor? Run FRAPS, and leave the overlay on. Do you notice a difference? My game is running buttery smooth when I leave the FRAPS overlay up, but when I disable it, the game stutters. It's the WEIRDEST thing.
I'll try that when I get home.

That would be odd if it fixes it. Maybe the tiny performance drain of Fraps' overlay is just the right amount to counteract the equally tiny fluctuations in the engine that causes this stuttering?

I just tried it.

The game won't even let me start up with Fraps. It crashes before I even get to the main menu.

So for everyone that has the game and tried the comand "r_skipglare" would you guys say it is a better experience, does it ruin some areas? I'm sure the filter on default brings atmosphere in the Hospital area for example as some one posted a pic.

So for those using the comand and are say at least a few chapters in, would you say it makes the game more atmospheric, less or same amount?

Because this comand alone is nearly pushing me to buy this game, plus now the FOV FIX and black bar removal, this is why I love PC gaming.

This blows my mind. How can you be so incompetent at developing a PC game and lack the proper support for what your consumers want? Especially when the problem is fixed by changing the data which is already in memory and isn't hard coded into the game.
