Xbox360 - 527k
PS3 - 119k

So PS4 did about expected and Xbox One did way better than 2nd place last gen (if we just look at the HD consoles). Pretty good for Sony and fantastic job for MS, really turning things around. Lots of momentum leading to Halo and Call of Duty in November.

Also the One almost doubles last month's sales, from 160k -> ~285k

Yea....I think on its own thats not bad, thats something to be proud of. Of course vs the PS4 its gonna seem low or bad. This is positive news for MS and the XBO.

This. September is kind of an arbitrary month to pick to compare over generations. You need a big system seller in that month (which Destiny was), and then it looks great. Other than that, I don't know how many people are doing holiday shopping in Sept.

The main holiday season is where the real story is told. Looking forward to the next couple months. If PS4 continues topping the XBone by this much, it may be over for this gen (don't even know if the XBone can come back from 1 mil down anyway).

THanks for the explanation, guys. Impressed about the rate ps4 is selling. I never thought they be running so far ahead from the competition. Now sony needs to go balls to the walls again with a 3rd party this time with GTA V. I feel Sony still has October in the bag. November is MS best shot at breaking ps4's streak with Unity and Halo collection. If sony still wins november then damn.

I honestly think that MS's current lust with "holiday season" is part of the problem.

Rather than releasing games throughout the more quiet months of the year more consistently, their lineup are pretty heavy in 2H, where all the big multiplats are also being released.

Not saying there's nothing in other months, but they do like their holiday lineup to be much more dense than other parts of the year.

That really is a valid point. Sony sprinkles big titles across the year usually. MS comes out guns blazing every November. For me, I don't play more than one game at a time usually, so getting Infamous in summer then LBP in Fall followed by Bloodborne in Feb then The Order is my preference.

XB1 is doing great in NA.

The problem is they are severely under-performing in Europe and RoW. In Spain they had a 20m euro marketing budget and only managed to sell ~50k units.

I'm really interested in what the end game is for MS. If they keep doing insane deals/marketing just to keep up with the PS4, how are they ever making any of that money back?

But they're not keeping up with PS4. Keeping up would imply equal sales, PS4 has about a 2:1 advantage in install base worldwide.

It's not really making strides when you continue to fall further behind and you will probably get the same ratio or greater with Europe and Japan.

They were always close in NA and the UK. In Europe and the rest of the world the gap is huge. That's why PS4 is 2:1 in sales worldwide (maybe even more now).

Wouldn't be surprised if Acti is keeping a close eye on the CoD bundle vs Destiny bundle sales. I can see them going all in with Sony this gen tbh especially since the Destiny partnership proved to be successful.
