Jesus, I trusted you Inafune and was one of the first backers for MN9, but seriously?
Isn't this like the third fund they're doing since the kickstarter ended? When will it stop?
Kneejerk, the thread.
This is the same funding they've been doing since right after the kickstarter ended... This is the same type of funding every other kickstarter does when they decide to accept money after their kickstarter has ended. They just added another stretch goal.
Just to be clear since people seem to be missing this. Everyone who has already backed, gets this free if it gets funded. There's nothing extra you need to buy. It's just another stretch goal. This is not day one dlc, and it's not even paid dlc at this point. It might be paid dlc after the game releases, but not for anyone who backed the game before it has released.
People who are complaining about them spending time on this. This is something by their marketing department I'd imagine. It has no affect on the developers right now. They talk about it being available after the game releases, meaning they won't work on it until the game is complete or close to it.
Finally, there's no indication that this game isn't still on schedule to be released around April 2015 as originally planned last year when the Kickstarter first happened. It's not like its delayed or this dlc is going to make the game come out any slower.
Those numbers are insane. It won't cost even close to that.
Kneejerk, the thread.
Wow, I didn't know Animation cost more than the Programming.
Kneejerk, the thread.
Seriously, holy shit, people. So much conclusion-jumping its shameful.
Animation includes creating the assets and actually implementing them into the game, so yeah
Not at all. DLC should be something developed after the fact unfortunately gamers are to use to day one dlc. They could and should be using funds from the games sales to fund the DLC development after game release.
The assets and animation are separated from the list though.
Even with the rise of crowdfunding and devs being open about the development process, some of you still choose to ignore how it works.
Crowd funding for DLC codes that likely will be on the disc anyway, wow
Glad I didn't give this game a penny
I don't think it's that. I think in this case I get why people are complaining. To most DLC is something that should come later, after all I am going to assume most people here don't like day 1 DLC. With that in mind funding DLC and not using the money you make the game probably bugs people.
I know there is a disconnect since its crowdfunding to create the DLC but it just seems odd for people. Since backers will get it for free err well kinda, they backed it so they did give some money it makes sense. Non-backers will have to pay for it of course. It still seems very bizarre though.
The other part of this thread is just people complaining about talking about DLC before its out in general and finding that dumb. I know I still do but that's an industry thing not just this game.
You people are worse than some publishers.
You are being funded by a seemingly random crowd of people that are interested in your game rather than an oiled company, of course it would be worse. You people are worse than some publishers.
It totally didn't dawn on me about the team who worked on the game staying together. That's a good point. The people working on the game now are going to move on to other projects once it's complete. Getting the funding to make additional DLC now vs later means most/all currently working on it stay working on it instead of making it post release and few from the original team who didn't move on to a new project yet are available.
It's a job, they can't wait around doing nothing for more MN9 related work and they can't just halt development of whatever they might be involved in to go back to it. There's a lot of people involved and it's easier to keep them working together longer than letting them split and trying to get everyone back together again.
And the "enough money" comments are ridiculous too like every developer should be working on crowdfunded titles for peanuts. They are already working at less than they would make if they just did something a publisher would be interested in selling so they can make a game that pubs don't want but they see players do.
To me it's not really the timing of the development for the DLC, but the whole crowdfunding aspect coupled with the game not being out yet. I would understand if this were just another stretch goal to increase the content of the base game or if the base game was already out a-la Skullgirls, but asking for money to make a DLC that will likely be paid content for non-backers for a game that isn't even out yet is just low. It makes me as a non-backer feel ramsomed into backing so I don't have to buy this separately later on when the game releases, if that makes any sense.I don't think it's that. Honestly, I agree. They are asking for more money even though they already received 3 million?
Just stick the wannabe-Getter Robo in the second game or something.
You should see some of the train simulator DLC.$198,000? That's the most expensive DLC I've ever seen.
Did it have a cartoon series though? Of course not, it was a videogame that stuck to a simple philosophy.Seriously. Yacht Club Games made an amazing "Mega Man game" for under a million (Shovel Knight). Keep it tight.
I don't understand why they don't just focus on finishing the game for now and fund the DLC with sales revenue.

Part of me even wonders if this character was made for the cartoon...
