well then you don't understand how ridiculous of a task it is.

I don't.
And I don't find it impressive.

343i will redeem themselves when they make a good Halo game not a good Halo collection UI.
(Not that they need to redeem themselves, Halo 4 was as good as most Halo games.)

They've redeemed themselves by releasing old games made by somebody else?
My feelings as well. I dig the old Halo games and can appreciate that they're now in 1080p 60fps (they are, right?), but asking if the MCC redeems 343i is like asking if the KH remixes and FFX/X-2 HD remasters redeemed Square Enix.

All the way through Halo 4, 343 consistently told the community what they wanted rather than listening to feedback or addressing concerns. "Don't worry, it'll be great" only goes so far. The end results being disappointing and lackluster. It'll take more than remastering old Halo games created by Bungie to win back the old Halo favor, imo, at least from me. Nail Halo 5 and they'll have it.

it's great value and wonderful for fans, but when they deviate from bungie's work you can see the gulf in craft

a microcosm is this comparison of the gun sounds from halo 2 and the mcc version. the subtle, memorable rings of the originals just made as loud as possible for no reason. clumsy.

Yeah things like this :/. Small when separated, but they add up

Yeah, looks like a lot of people forget this.

Well if you want to make the case that 343i ruined Halo, you can't go acknowledging that it was Bungie that laid the groundwork for most of it in a game that came out before it now can you?

I think that's because they based it off of actual gun sounds, where the bass is much higher.

The memories are gone yes, but those sounds will be incredibly satisfactory to listen to on a 5.1/7.1 speaker system.

I don't like the SMG sound, though :/

No because they haven't proven they can make a great game yet on their own. They were too cocky in the development of Halo 4. They were told constantly that a lot of the things they were doing were wrong on the multiplayer side of things. They though that we would adapt and deal with it. They found out that we will just abandon it. Halo 5 is the game that will determine if I will continue with the series,

However the MCC honestly make every future installment of Halo irrelevant if they turn out to be crap. I hope I enjoy the multiplayer more for Halo 5 because the gun play was fine in Halo 4, but everything else was just terrible. Having the random weapon drops, people able to randomly have super weapons, no longer really fighting over positions or weapons anymore, not having rank, and basically making it seem like there is no point in being good at the game.

I have high hopes for the beta because of the MCC. I assume they want to take a Halo 2 approach with Halo 5.

I'm going to say no, let's revisit that question after Halo 5. Cleaning up and remastering a set of existing games/maps is not redemption, releasing an new, original product that corrects the problems of your last one would be.

so your opinion is a fact now? good to know

Well, it's not like it isn't a popular sentiment that Halo 4 was the worst game in the series. You need only look at how quickly the online community for the game evaporated compared to all the prior Halo games to see how badly the game failed to hold the interest of the fanbase when it came out.

Can't really say they are redeemed when a lot of those games are older Bungie titles that were retouched or upgraded to run better. It's a great deal and the first step in getting what fans want out of Halo, especially the multiplayer.

I just want Halo 2 MP with pretty graphics. And rocket jumping standard.

Yes, 343 redeemed themselves by remastering games they didn't make /s

Not just remaster, the greatest remaster of any game. And going back to the older games is by far the best thing that could happen to Halo 5. These guys love halo, reworking the old engine, getting familiar with what made the older titles so great is definitely going to steer their decisions for Halo 5.

They got many Bungie veterans working for them already, get Marty in and they're practically old Bungie.

You just don't realise how much work they have put in to the user interface!

They're not redeemed until we see what Halo 5 is. That's all there is to it. Remastering the games is indeed technically impressive, but there is more to game creation than being merely technically impressive. Halo 5 has a bit to prove after 4.

Nope, they aren't even close to being redeemed for that travesty of a Halo title that was Halo 4. I don't have a lot of faith in them getting Halo 5 correct either, "new Sparatan abilites" have me very worried.

Removing loadouts is already a good start for H5. There are supposed "Spartan abilities" but they are compared to dual wielding/vehicle jacking rather than Armor abilities. Guess we'll find out what that means when the beta arrives.

It seems like most of GAF (or the vocal minority) has an everlasting hatred for 4 :p

God do I fucking hate this defense.

Yea, it was just GAF who hated Halo 4. That's why the online population dropped off like a fucking brick.

343i can redeem themselves by releasing a game with a story that doesn't require a constant commitment to retain and follow up on the extended fiction to comprehend. A game that has great multiplayer and story missions that don't follow a formula that was dated a decade ago (Press this button, do it two more times in different locations).

A release of a decade old game that is being developed from three different studios is not redeeming them.

still doesn't make it a fact though plenty of people think that h2 is the worst halo and plenty think that h2 was the best can it be proven and agreed on that either side is wrong or right?

Thats an extremely horrible argument a lot of people make. The whole "oh but halo 4 didn't have as much of a long lasting community as previous halos". Halo 3 didn't have the same problem that Halo 4 did, which is the "fps burn out" period. Towards Halo 4 release, there were DOZENS of AAA high quality FPS's released. Personally I loved halo 4, though yes I do agree it is the worst in the series (that or Reach), but the reason I stopped playing MP was because I simply felt bored of FPS's and needed a break, decided to play MMO's and RPG's etc...
