I like the guy, he's good with the robotic stuff.

He always nails CGI of robots, look real and believable compared to anything I've seen. Movement, lighting, materials. It just works and your brain accepts it.

No bald cap? Lies!
Looks pretty good. Don't know if Ninja and Yo-Landi can act though, but I guess their personas fit the roles.

That's pretty much the only thing he has ever done in entire his life. No surprise there heh. Oh and aliens.

If I ever post something in Japanese which I don't understand, please BAN me.
Looks good, will watch but where is Sigourney Weaver?

Unlike Elysium, Blomkamp wrote Chappie with his District 9 partner, Terri Tatchell. So hopefully that's a positive sign on the script front.

Looks unbearably mawkish.
"Oh, Chappie, you've taught me more than I could possibly have imagined!"
Fuck off.

I get an odd sense that the trailer is playing that up more than will be the movie's actual tone. We'll see.

Not by much :D

Edit: I hope Chappie bombs (chances are, it will) From what I've seen and read, Blomkamp strikes me as a director who should have as little input on a screenplay as possible. I think he'd be much better off realizing someone else's vision.

I'll probably end up seeing it, but after Elysium, I doubt it'll be in theaters. Also don't like Die Antwoord being in it, but I'm sure Neill kept them in check.

Films looks great. I enjoyed both District 9 and Elysium but this one has been a must watch since I heard it's premise a long while back.. Shame Die Atwoord (well Ninja) were apparently complete dicks off screen which led to a fall out between them and Blomkamp

CHeck out their acting skills here

He'd be a great director for hire. Give him full creative freedom except make him sign a contract that he can't hire sharlto or change the script

District 9 worked because it had a strong heart to it. The characters felt real, and you cared more about them rather the outcome of the plot itself. This seems like a return to form. Elysium felt så unpersonal, so cold and distant. It was very impressive, but it had no emotional core to it.

Looks like it's treading the line between hokey and heart warming. I liked District 9, but it didn't completely stick with me. Didn't even bother to watch Elysium.

Mean spirited if not petty.

That said, Neil Blomkamp should be given the rights to adapt the Appleseed books* into an actual movie. Fuck, make it a trilogy.

*ignore the horrid CGI films/series

Wanting him to fail so he can make better movies in the future is mean spirited and petty?
