Halo 5 beta clips leak (sprint, ADS is *not* COD-style) (more clips and info added)

Disagree, of course. Not much that is more embarrassing than intricately describing the ebb and flow of Halo's fluid and fast-past combat, and lamenting its demise, all based on literally nothing, and then being proven spectacularly wrong a few hours later.

No ones been proven wrong til we play it actually so hold your horses.

Jesus Christ @ this thread.

Destiny did ADS and sprinting, and the combat in that was outstanding. Reach had sprint and it was the best feeling of any Halo by far. And honestly, even if they added ADS, as long as the core components of the combat don't change (ie how long it takes to take someone down and the weapon balance) I don't see how it changes anything. It's still much more Quake then CoD, as it always has been, and why I love Halo MP.

Honestly, what I saw in those clips looked GREAT to me. Hard to tell, but it looks like the visuals will be amazing.

Reach was worse and the majority agreed. ADS does change the core and they already messed up with kill times in Halo 4. It's nothing like an arena game with sprint in which messes with the map flow.

Master chief is boring because Bungie wrote him that way. He's actually very very interesting and bad ass in the books(can't speak for the comics) and I think they are gonna delve into that in H5. But I agree partially as I too welcome Locke as MC isn't the only Spartan. He's unique but it's be nice to see the story from a different perspective. And whoever the actor is that plays Locke fucking nails his VO and look.

He's pretty neat-o in the comic's too, but I definitely think that 343 is trying to build Chief's character a bit. The arc with Cortana, while we all might have different opinions about quality, was certainly an improvement over nothing at all. At least in this posters opinion.

I'm perfectly fine with overreacting to stuff like this. 343 already fucked up Halo 4. It never helps that the first stuff you see of their new game is ADS. Guilty until proven innocent in cases like this for me. Good to hear the new details however and I'll keep a close eye on the reveal Monday.

What kind of moral/ethics code do you live by lol? That so bad and counter productive, over reacting to ANYTHING is bad. React yes, but the things which we saw here (which I myself am guilty of too) was so childish, impatient and ridiculous.

A 6 second clip, with ZERO clarification or context caused this shitstorm.

I didn't see any XP indicators in the leaked footage. Only thing I noticed about feedback to the player was that the medals are now in the middle-down area, and said what the player had done (Like "Double Kill"). Need better footage though.

ive read most of the books (not the most recent one). MC is interesting but the Halo universe needs expanded and told through other characters. i really have no interest in seeing the Halo universe through MC's point of view anymore. Locke will be a totally different character and i welcome the change. but like a lot of things in gaming people dont like change and will fight anything different n H5 until the game releases. i feel bad for the devs who are working hard only to see people bitch about a game theyve barely seen and never played. Halo 4 had its faults but i feel the 343i definitely learned from the experience so i look forawd to seeing more new things with Halo 5.

This was kind of my reaction to the thread as well, although I do have concern that any drastic changes may kill the online population like they did with Halo 4, even if I personally dont mind evolving the Halo gameplay a bit.

Mostly im just trying to understand how exactly Halo ADS will differ from COD ADS. I think we have a pretty good idea how its going to work already and if what im thinking is correct it probably wont affect gameplay in a negative way, at least not enough to drive Halo purists away from the game.

We still don't know whether ADS will affect aiming sensitivity.

It's still in implying that they still want the COD crowd. It's disgusting and a disgrace to the franchise. Sprint is in too so the maps will need to be made with that in mind. Who knows what else appears tomorrow that will be negative too.

This is exactly what I think.

Just ponder this. Would there be such a reaction if Halo 4 didn't exist? No, we would be a lot more sensible than that. However, nobody's taking any chances after that horrendous game, and I see every overreaction as a sensible reaction in this situation.

Every little detail is important, and 343i better be ready to do a 180 on Halo if the beta's reception turns out to be a disaster.

I didn't go batshit crazy or anything. I simply saw the clip, and said ADS is stupid in Halo and that I could totally see it happening. Which I still can, as the game is made by 343 and they made Halo 4, which was pretty bad on all fronts.

Of course that's how I'm gonna respond. The follow up to Halo 4 is revealed with a clip of ADS. What should I say instead? Wait and see? No, I was there during Halo 4's dev and all the hyping 343 did for that game. It was shit.

Note the "In This Case". The guy isn't applying this to high crime or warfare, it's just the way he reacts to a video game company he's wary of being implicated in doing something he doesn't appreciate.

Personally, I kind of welcome the collective "AHHHHHHH!" that started up when this thread was delivered, I think that kind of vehement and immediate opposition to stripping away some of the things that make Halo unique is a good first step in hoping to create a negative stigma that will lead 343 to reconsider in future games.

Thanks, that helps clear it up some.

To clarify a bit more between "COD ADS" and presumably what "Halo ADS" is going to be...when you say COD ADS increases accuracy do you mean it increases accuracy artificially beyond basic zooming accuracy by giving some sort of statistical boost to hit rate that compensates for recoil and movement?

If that's what you mean then I suppose there could still be a way to add ADS to Halo without all that auto-aiming compensation stuff so that Halo ADS basically only gives you a slight advantage in some medium distance fire-fights by virtue of zoom. So, no auto-targeting boost and itd actually be a disadvantage in close quarters due to zoom reducing FOV and descoping time so people would be discouraged using it too often.

I don't know the technical details or anything about CoD or how Halo's going to do it, but just from playing a lot of CoD, it narrows down the crosshairs when you zoom in and widens when you zoom out, so I'd assume there is some artifical accuracy compensation in there. But I don't know how it's actually handled so I might be completely off base here.

You're right, NO ONE has played it. Who should hold their horses? The thousand posters in the first 40 pages lamenting the demise of fast-paced game play even though they haven't played the game? Or me?

I don't like it either. And just to clarify I'm disagreeing with the people that are saying its definitely purely cosmetic based on Josh's tweet.

Hell, if it's truly functionally the same as classic Halo zoom, there's even less of a reason to take up a third of the screen with it.

Edit: And while I don't agree with people hurling insults or anything like that, I hate this idea that we can't criticize the game yet. I don't fully trust the developers of Halo (this includes Bungie) after the last 7 years, and I know I'm not the only one. People are justifiably concerned.

Well we've got more evidence to suggest the worst (Halo 4, the 6 second clips) than you hanging on every word of a devs twitter.

But that was the problem, it isn't really ADS, more of an aesthetic change to the way you scope in with the BR. Thats why I believe it was wrong to react the way we did, because we didn't take a moment to think about what we actually saw.

But hey who am I kidding, I was pissed off too, just more of a the sad, shocked and clueless pissed off.

The definition of front-butt.
Cool, I was right! Looking at the vid with more scrutiny payed off.

In the video it looks like the regular movement reticle and ADS reticle are the same size. It's also difficult to tell if movement speed was slowed while ADS. It's possible hip fire shots might not have any drawbacks, while ADS is "for the cod crowd" but provides no benefits. It could even slow down aiming speed but ultimately hipfire shooting would be the best in most situations.

Maybe.

Most shooters give a penalty for hip fire, it's not unreasonable for people to get upset since that's the norm.

Then apparently the main guy said that's not the case, that hipfire is the same, so people have checked their rage for now.

I don't know why that should be considered "OMG LOLOL GAF MAKING MOUNTAIN OUT OF MOLEHILLS AGAIN U GUYS SO DUM LOLOL". They were understandably upset because it's a reasonable assumption to think hipfire would be inaccurate compared to ironsight.

Shinobi said the AR and most weapons have it.

That's my point. If it was someone like Bungie or if there was no Halo 4, I would have been more hesitant, sure. After Halo 4? I saw that and my mind thinks the worse. Sorry, that's the hole 343 dug for themselves.

I'm a Halo fan, but 343 pretty much ruined 4. What they've said over twitter recently is a step in the right direction but I'm not going to approach the game with optimism.

Especially after two straight games of Bungie and 343 trying to modernize Halo and make it more accessible or whatever to its extreme detriment. The assumptions people made were warranted.

There's being understandably upset and then there's taking a 7 second clip and assuming they knew what to expect from the full game. It's especially bad considering tomorrow is the damn reveal and people could have waited for their answer before shouting fuck 343i left and right. Now we just wait until tomorrow for our faces to melt.

Just saw the footage. It's good. You know if this was a different forum a Halo 5 leak is FANTASTIC news but somehow GAF turns it into a shitstorm.

I don't want to believe in the SonyGAF conspiracy but you guys make it impossible not to.

Not sure what you're implying here but everyone who is upset is a Halo fan... which is exclusive to Xbox...

Really? It cant possibly be Halo fans? God forbid they don't want another call of duty clone that is uninspired and a disgrace to the gaming industry.

Yeah it's a conspiracy. It's not as if 95% of the people calling for the doom of halo in here are halo fanatics.

Imagine if people got this collectively upset over real life shit that actually matters and not just a video-game. We'd have solved a lot of the world's problems by now. A man can dream, cant he?

I'm new here, so I don't really take Shinobi's words as 100%, considering the clips which followed which show'd no ADS on any other weapon except the BR. He also later stated that the person who gave him this information later reduced it to "some" weapons, and said that MS could easily very well change it before we see anything, so doesn't sound too reliable/100% :S

I could be totally wrong and learn my lesson the hard-way though :S

Don't do this. This was PURELY a halo fan meltdown storm and not much else. Very few would really take the time to care about this besides the usual HALOL SUCKZ crowd and very few if any of them could be found in here.

huh? Why would Sony fans care if Halo has sprint or ADS? Sony fans would have no idea how sprint and ADS affect Halo
