Behold: The TGS 2013 Dark Souls II Trailer.

video/trailer details:

Notice the detail, particles, lighting, shadows, resolution and framerate.

man that was exactly why I didn't buy the PS3 version. Now I didn't expect no 60fps or 1080p or anything, but the sheer gap in particles, shadows, lighting was insane, and then they only inform us that they couldn't hit that a month before launch and boxarts still have the original version of the game on them?

Hell naw.

So I skipped it, as painful as that was, given Demon and Dark Souls were two of my all time favorite games. And people told me I was unreasonable and that I should buy it anyway, blah blah

Now I win, because I didn't waste money on an inferior product. I waited and demanded more and I won :D

According to the Japanese press release, the release format in Japan is slightly different.

The PS3/360/PC(DX9) version of Scholar of the First Sin will be released on Feb 5 2015, while he PS4/XBO/PC(DX11) version will be released on Apr 9 2015. The pricing is different too, with the DX9 PC version going for 4,200yen, while the DX11 PC version will be 5,200yen.

That pretty much confirms that anyone who owns DS2 on Steam now is stuck with the DX9 version, and you'll probably have to buy the DX11 version separately. Unless they offer a discounted upgrade.

If this is true of the PC version after all of that drama with the downgraded lighting... Fuck Namco so hard.

I absolutely called it, BTW.

So let me get this straight, pc users will get the graphical enhancements for free right? If not, I'm just done with this.

Edit: ah, I see. I'm pissed. I knew this would be the case the moment we realized they downgraded the game.

I don't own Dark Souls II, so maybe it's time for me to finally pick it up.

I won't be surprised if the game is one of the listed titles for this upcoming Black Friday Steam Sale.

They did something similar with Sleeping Dogs: Definitive Edition.

In that the Definitive update wasn't a free update for those who already owned the PC version.

I guess I'm expecting something similar with this game.

Not entirely sure if I can convince myself to triple-dip on this game. I already own it for PS3 and PC. Kinda sad I wasted money on the season pass for the DLC (and only played the first, besides).

I always thought the naysayers who said they skimped on the console release to incentivize purchasing an enhanced current-gen version were being needlessly pessimistic. Guess they were on to something.

That's just fucking great.
First the downgrade the game on PC for no reason at all then, one year later, they re-release the game on PC with all the enhancements they've cut. Except you have to buy the game again.

Pack yo bags. :( I hope it's heavily discounted at the very least. Perhaps we should come together as a community and demand some straight answers first though.

It's not too farfetched to believed Scamco might change their minds.

Lol i feel so fucked. Dropped $50 bucks on the PC version but never played it because my PC is a POS.

Always wanted to play it and glad its making its way towards PS4/X1. Won't be done with Bloodborne though, so a purchase in May seems more likely.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution had a 75% discount for the Director's Cut version if you had the original.
And Sleeping Dogs had a 50% discount for the Definitive Edition if you had the original.

I LOVED Dark Souls but skipped Dark Souls 2. Is DS2 a worthy sequel?

Worth giving a shot, but go in with low expectations. It's not a bad game but "good" is the best thing I can call it.

Demon's Souls is the best game I've ever played and Dark Souls is more or less equal in my eyes. Dark Souls II is far, far, far worse than both of them in almost every way imo.

wow..just when I just completed a No Death/No Bonifire run, to earn the two illusion rings, and one stat away from maxing out my character (Valar Morghulis) soul level. I'll probably max it out completely tonight.

Guess I'll have to do it all again, because I'm definitely getting this for the PS4.

PS: for folks to know I didn't cheat. look at my gameplay hours.

gamespot confirms it's two different versions for PC.

Continuing the trend of popular games from the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 going to current-gen systems, From Software announced that the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and DirectX 11 PCs will get a new version of Dark Souls II.

From Software isn't abandoning last-gen gamers or people who already own the game though. Scholar of the First Sin will also be available on PS3, 360, and DirectX 9 PCs as a compilation version that collects the game and DLC missions. While it won't include the enhanced graphics and sound, those versions (and gamers who already own Dark Souls II) will receive the additional content through a free, "large-scale update (ver. 1.10), which will add new features including an additional NPC to seek out along the treacherous quest through Drangleic as well as expanded story, in-game events, improved balance, and online matchmaking functionality."

So the enhanced graphics and 6 player online play will only come to a new separate game with it's own online playerbase and not to existing PC users.

People called this shit and I never wanted to believe it. Bamco better let us buy this version for a HUGE discount if we own the the original or they can fuck themselves. What a stupid fucking move and great way to split the already small online community.

Good thing I waited, even though I really had no intention of playing my PS3 for a full game. Now I just have to wait for it to drop in price. No way am I getting a remastered game so similar to Bloodborne just weeks apart.

What's the price? I don't want to spend $60 on a game I already played (that's why I don't have GTA5 PS4). I'm glad I didn't get the DLC now because I'll get it with the PS4 version.

If it's $40 or less, day 1.

Sounds like the current PC version gets everything except the DX11 improvements.

next time ya'll should listen to Papa Amir0x, he is always on the defensive for a reason.

Sorry for everyone who did buy this and feels slighted by this behavior, I hope they offer a discount for you guys. Deep discount. It's fucked up I agree.

Bloodborne is supposed to be more action oriented and less RPG like right? Can you even create or customize your character to the degree you can in Souls like choosing classes and whatnot? Just asking because it seems like Bloodborne is a different type of game with a similar fighting system, but I haven't kept up much.

I'll probably be buying this whether I want to or not... Damn this Souls addiction! Hopefully there will be a loyalty discount for those of us who have all the DLC or they put this out cheaper. I'm also hoping that there wont be any sort of playerbase splitting with the DX9 and 11 versions, but really I'm not too worried about that.

People worry about "skimping" but really DS2 had a huge dose of More Stuff in pretty much every single way you could want when compared to DS1. More weapons, a lot more armors, more characters, more areas, more bosses. (at least according to my wild guess that is completely made up and didn't involve any actual counting.)

You can make a very good argument that More is not the same as Better, especially with the bosses I think. But it seems silly to me to be scared of possibly not getting Even More Stuff because it was held back for DLC or an expansion. We already got a lot of More, and adding more More won't necessarily make the game more fun.

There had better be some kind of upgrade deal. I can't actually think of another game that was released twice on PC and charged full price for each.

Sadly I'll be too deep in Bloodborne to even consider buying this game again on next-gen consoles.

Yep. Exactly this.

Seriously, this can get bent. It's silly. The ONLY worthwhile option was a complete remastered 'Souls Collection'. A remaster of the weakest game in the series that's still fresh in a lot of players' minds just after Bloodborne drops?

Whyeth?

I'm fucking done with Namco on day one. You blew it, fuckers.

What pisses me off more is how this move will essentially force a divide in the PC user base. In a game that shines thanks to the online stuff it's an incredibly stupid decision.

From what we've seen, Bloodborne is Souls in all but name.

Wait, DX9 version? God damn it, so they will have old PC and new PC versions? So irritating I should have just waited.
