"Weight to the guns" is not a good justification for the prolonged existence of a franchise. Just create a universe that people actually care about and add weight to the guns.

I say "Just create a universe" as though it were an easy thing - and you know what? Creating a more compelling universe than Killzone would absolutely be an easy thing.
And no baggage. And you attract people who don't give a shit about KZ. Also KZ: SF was about light and snappy as you can get. No weight.

Pretty sure it's been established that OG Titanfall is never coming to PS4.

I'm pretty sure all we ever got was the standard MS ambigious answer of "...for the life of the title" Which keeps the door open for a spin off and/or different edition of the title.

After actually playing TF, I'm not sure I even care if the PS4 ever gets one.

yeah, not a priority, especially with Planetside 2 coming very soon, however....

KZ still sells millions. It's not my particular cup of tea, but people do actually care about it.

I'm not sure what half those are lol. Help?

New genres:
Revived franchises:
Spectacular open world masterpieces: DA:I
Scifi epic ship to ship battles:
Pirates: ACIV
Ninjas:
Lootwhoring: Destiny, Diablo
Chickens in radiation suits: Flustercluck
Point and clicks:
Music to set your heart aflame: Sound shapes?
BASE jumping in Nepal: Far Cry 4 (Why is BASE capitalized?)
Capturing all your flags:
Angels and demons losing their minds
A boy, his friends, memories and tears:
Because it's an acronym, it's always capitalized.

You're showing that you know nothing of the series.

I'll admit I've only played 2 and Mercenaries. Good games. Nothing very distinctive about the game world though. I'd love to see some memorable characters and to actually be drawn into the universe.

You're right. The way a game plays is not justification for continuing a series. Those 2 million+ people that bought Shadow Fall don't care about the game. /s

Using Shadow Fall as the example for people loving the series seems ill-advised.

Ninjas? Tenchu fuckers!!
or Shinobido
Point n Click could be Grim Fandango?

That seals the deal :p

In accordance to what amir0x is teasing.

The reveal is an old ( Capcom?) IP going exclusive to PS4.

If it was a new IP no one would be saying "a nice surprise" because you wouldn't know what it is.
And it's confirmed to be from a 3rd party.

Maximo ?
Rockman ?
Dino Crisis ?

Darkstalkers is my bet. Ono wanted to do it, capcom said no, I assume Sony stepped in

So basically you want them to create a new game yet don't think they are capable of delivering an interesting narrative?

How would this new game be any different than Killzone in that regard then?

I personally think SF was a good step forward in the campaign department. If they could build on what they started there and up the quality of the narrative while including a multplayer as robust as Killzone 2's...we would have something special.

It just came to me like a vision.

Destruction Derby is coming back with Jaffe at the helm.

Okay, probably not but that game did just randomly pop into my head and I'd love another one.

Dragon's Dogma 2 would make sense than the other older Capcom IPs due to it filling the RPG void in Sony's lineup (though I guess Horizon is suppose to be an RPG as well?).

I'm more inclined to say that Sony tried two different exclusive fps games that have amounted to lukewarm receptions. While the games have die hard fans, they never got the mass appeal they probably wanted like Halo does (or did). Cambridge seems to be better at making a competent fps games than GG, but they are going to be tied down to the killzone IP.

Killzone should be put to sleep for a while, let Cambridge make a new IP on their own and let GG try something new (although I still think they are a mid tier developer that keeps getting AAA money and still manages to not reach the top). Realistically though, if Sony wants an fps game they need to look at a different studio, and maybe an external one that has shown that they have the capability to make a decent fps game. Starbreeze would be a good studio to contract out

Dude.... all Sony needs to do is buy out the Square time that made Final Fantasy Tactics and Tactics Ogre and have them make Helghast Tactics...

We get to keep the Killzone IP and it diverts away from the FPS so they can focus more on flushing out the story.

It also will never happen but one can dream...

I hope this hasn't been answered before, but can we get confirmation that the keynote will be live streamed?

Also are the press invited to do coverage? It's one thing for the PlayStation Blog, it's another thing entirely to have Gamespot, IGN, Polygon and the like there.

Finally, does any one care for the Last Guardian any more :'(?

I'd play it, but then of course I am a sucker for any srpg/trpg with a grid battleground

Would you feel the same way if they are paying for the game to be made and not paying for exclusivity, but also not "saving" the game like Bayonetta2?

I don't know; that's where it gets a little murky. If it seems unlikely the game would exist without the first party money then I don't think it's a bad thing, but if it's a guaranteed sequel like Tomb Raider Rising then despite whatever Spencer might claim about MS's money helping fund development, all they are in actual fact doing is paying to prevent or delay a PS version launching at the same time. I don't even buy those claims that Titanfall was going to be cancelled unless MS came in with their saviour money, because having created and helmed Call of Duty for nearly a decade, I'm sure EA would have given Respawn whatever they needed to create a 'COD-killer'.

Also, what is the likelyhood we see a Titanfall "Omega" edition appear for PS4, set to release on the 1 year anniversary of the XB1 launch?

I doubt this will happen, but it would be in EA & Respawn's interests if they can get a loophole in the contract and get the brand out there for PS4 owners.

There's a good chance that I'll miss this because I'm one of those losers who has to work on saturdays and sundays. I hope someone makes a compilation thread with all the news/trailers in one that I can bookmark in advance. Please?!

You made me look up Ono's twitter, then I saw this:

This can mean anything, seeing he's already producing Deep Down.

EDIT: yeah, you've got something going there. Sony wants its Killer Instinct ? We'll find out.

Looks like it won't be a fighting game but we can make different interpretations

I'm saying there is value in a blank slate. There are dozens of examples of interesting universes and games that don't capitalize. Destiny is a good recent example. Killzone is supposed to be political allegory, yet it's treated as another generic military shooter in-game. There is baggage attached with that. Not every script is meant for every director despite both being good seperately. Maybe a new universe, 3rd person, fantasy settings will do the talent at Guerilla some good.

But you use the phrase "good step forward" as if it were DLC for Killzone 1. It's been 10 years and four games later. When does opportunity cost start to be a thing for you? Why latch onto such a marginal franchise?
