This isn't the typical small band of heroes that save the world from a evil big bad type of game.
The Suikoden series is mainly about you being a commander of an army to rebel against an invading Kingdom, which requires you to find recruits to act as soldiers and military commanders, as well run various facilities for your headquarters.

Probably right. This doesn't make the game any less rare, but new fans now have the option of diving in at 9.99 rather than $120+.
Never played a Suikoden in my life but in a jRPG fan and I've heard nothing but good things about S2 that in seriously considering it. I've heard it's basically "Game of Thrones the JRPG"!
Would you guys say this is true?
Couldn't agree more. it really is that good. If we could get a fraction of the people who bought FFVII on PSN to pick up this one as well, Konami would make suiko 6 in a heartbeat.
But I'd take a "Suikoden 1/2 HD remix" as a consolation prize.
Just wanted to comment on one last thing, since you mentioned being an army commander- suikoden 2 is one of the few JRPGs of its era that actually HAS permadeath for party characters. Screwing up the major army skirmishes badly enough can mean that some characters are "killed" for good- kind of a shock the first time I saw that. It's not common (I've only seen it once, personally) but it is one of those little things that really sets the game apart.

Suikoden 6 is never gonna happen. Never. If hell freezes over and Konami by chance does make one, it'll be closer to breath of fire 6, than what you would like it to be.
Suikoden VI has as much chance as Shenmune 3, Crash coming back to PlayStation, or TLG actually being finished.
Konami is basically a 2.5 series company now.
20 hrs is my kind of length for a jrpg post college.
do they hold up though? Do I need a guide or is it generally good with pushing people to the next thing. Any grind? Whats the difficulty? Translation decent enough to understand? Hows the pace of combat? ps1 jrpg battles love to take their time.
talking about both suikoden 1 and 2.
Does Suikoden II have random encounters?
Super excited to play this game since I missed it on my ps1 days, but after replaying FFIX I couldn't get over how dated random encounters feel. It really diminished my experience and I didn't enjoy the game nearly as much as I did in the past. Does Suikoden II have random encounters?
Yes, but they are super fast and you have an auto battle option.
Check the videos I posted above.
They aren't nearly as unbearably slow like FF9 is.
Once you recruit Kai it's pretty much game over for most random enemies for the rest of the game. His unite attack with the Hero pretty much destroys everything that isn't a boss.

Hi all,
This is Yuichi.. host to most of Konami Twitch streams
I want to thank the hardworking guys at Sony and Konami (such as our very own ToraShir0) to help with the push to release this classic to PSN and VITA.
Also, thank you to the followers and fans of our twitch stream..
Your support really did help show that this would be worth the effort.
If you are new to Suikoden, please give it a shot.
Suikoden II is a direct sequel to Suikoden I and, as far as I know, the saves can transfer from 1 to 2.
Thanks again.
I've never read any books from the A Song of Fire and Ice series.
But I'm putting this spoiler tags, it's not exactly spoilers just a basic summary.
Suikoden 1 in a nutshell. You are the son of a General in the Imperial army. Your father is going north to deal with a border skirmish with a neighboring country, while he is a away you start working as a recruit for the Imperial Army doing some menial tasks.
One of the missions you get into some trouble and your buddy uses forbidden magic to kill an unkillable monster, one of your Military superiors is suspicious of this and reports this to the Queen. The Queen summons your friend for an audience. He has a magical bracelet that lets him use forbidden magic, the same bracelet the Queen has been looking for a long time, friend escapes.
The next day your house is completely surrounded by Imperial troops looking for your buddy. As a gambit to flee your friend begs you to take the bracelet and use him as bait so you can get away without issue. The plan works and you head south, however the Queen now labels you as a fugitive on the run injuring several imperial soldiers and a traitor to the army, which is totally BS and lies. She just wants the magical bracelet of ultimate power by any means necessary.
You get mixed up with some Rebels that are anti-Imperial regime and get stuff doing some tasks for them and begin to find out the Imperial Army you work for may be corrupt to the core leading all the way to highest chain of command.
You decide to join the Rebels and start building a military force, establish a base and basically become a capable force that is able to stand against the Imperial Army. There is a bunch of other stuff but I don't want to start naming characters, so I'm trying to be as vague as possible.
Suikoden 2 takes place 3 years after the events of the first game in a neighboring territory dealing with a similar premise of you being a military recruit that is setup and becoming a fugitive on the run, finding people to help you, building an army, and ultimately stopping an invading kingdom for being a bunch of jerkwads for being mean and invading.
I hope this makes sense if that is anything like Game of Thrones to you.

The first game is pretty short, if you can play it before S2, I'd highly recommend it.Not sure about the GoT similarity but I appreciate the S1 summary. I plan to play S2 and since Im skipping S1 I think this should help.
If its retail i buy.
If not i skip.
Vitas have to be sold with dust cleaners.

Hi, welcome.
Thanks for pushing for this.
The first game is pretty short, if you can play it before S2, I'd highly recommend it.
PAL versions?
I may create an European PSN account to buy both games again, and play the "fixed" version of Suikoden II. Also supporting the series, always an extra.
I hope someone will open an OP for the game, it deserve to be bought from every JRPG player in this universe @@
the next targets for konami should be to release a ps4/vita versions of suikoden 3 and my favorite in the series suikoden 5 (the sales for s2 must convince them!) T_T
Welcome, and thanks for all the effort to bring our beloved series to the vita!
How short? I don't have the patience for archaic, long and slow traditional jRPGs anymore. Im willing to give S2 a fair chance since I've been hearing for 15 years how good it is but Im not sure I can do that for S1 as well.
