Edge #276 - Uncharted 4: A Thief's End

That would still presumably end up being Black Ops 3 though, at least from a consumer perspective, no?

I mean, if I had to pick something as the biggest seller guaranteed to release this year, CoD still seems like the safe bet.

Or SW: Battlefront. COD is safer bet though.

What did you use? The Shit post 2000?

Uncharted 4 will probably be the best selling game on PS4 this year at least, though. Very likely it'll be the best selling exclusive title this year as well all things considered. But yeah, CoD will likely still do better business at retail even if there is another AW style drop for it this year too.

Also, wouldn't be too unreasonable to suggest UC4 as being the most anticipated game this year (Wouldn't be mine personally, but it'd be right up there) if the Neogaf 2015 most anticipated vote was any indicator.

That seems kinda low.

Don't they usually give pretty good scores to Bethesda RPGs?

lol, I see what you did there. Cute :)

His posts in 'GAF's top 10 most anticipated game of 2015' thread and his post in here were he rationalizes the whole 'biggest game' statement is because the press haven't seen "how big the game (MGSV) really is" says otherwise.

Well I could be wrong I guess.

Yeah, besides both fanbase already know it is Bloodborne that is the biggest 8)

I'm looking forward to Bloodborne but Uncharted is special for me. But mostly I just want to see what Naughty Dog is going to do and also what the PlayStation 4 is capable of. I want ND to make my PlayStation 4 scream.

I believe they're using the term based on momentum and sales and critical success combined from a single developer.

Uncharted 4 is coming off the high of TLOU sales and critical success and is the latest instalment in a franchise that I belive saw consistent growth (I.e. U3 outsold U2 outsold U1).

Uncharted 4 is launching on this gens most critically and sales successful console and so far I believe early signs are most PS4 franchise instalments are outselling their PS3 counterparts.

In short right now everything is positive about U4. It should be best selling entry in franchise yet and it could be at least well reviewed as U2 going off TLOU.

COD will outsell it but critically tends to be be below it and recent entries have been dipping below previous in sales hence their is a sense of CoD perhaps slipping past its peak.

Halo 5 could outsell Uncharted but it's coming off Halo 4 which is viewed now as a bit of a disappointment generally and there is a sense of caution on whether Halo 5 delivers.

In terms of the sum of its parts this year I can see how U4 could be viewed as "biggest release" in terms of expectations and the overwhelming sense of optimism surrounding the title.

Finally, Looking at ND trajectory with TLOU and current PS4 momentum we're in a market place where it's possible Uncharted could outsell Halo. I reckon Halo 5 will still outsell it but the fact it's not a foregone conclusion indicates the combined momentum of PS4 and ND have right now.

Pure sales wise sure a new CoD entry should still deliver but after two current gen entries it's obvious hype and market interest is fairly average - it's just another CoD in a sense.

After Unity AC feels tainted too as a franchise and again interest in new AC feels more muted - oh another AC, wonder if this will be a good one or a bad one.

Despite the vocal minority overal feel for Uncharted and ND is clearly overwhelmingly positive.

Well in terms of hugeness Witcher 3, MGSV and No Man's Sky trump it.

And in terms of most hyped for game other games like Zelda, Persona 5 and Bloodborne are all in worthy competition.

I'm excited to play U4 but nothing so far has made it more anticipated than those titles above.

Zelda is coming out on a system with a relatively small install base. Persona and Souls are popular indeed but still niche titles compared to the mainstream appeal of Uncharted.

I recall Druckmann & Straley saying in a recent Game Informer video it was about 9 years after Uncharted 1, so I'd say that makes Drake about 40-42 years old here.

How old was he in Uncharted 1? Did they ever exactly say how old Drake was? I don't remember.

I based my estimate based on their info about A Thief's End being 3 years after Drake's Deception, and to me, he looked 34-35ish on it.

Just found the quote; Druckmann says it's "8, 9, 10 years since we made Uncharted 1 and he's been aging just as we have". I don't know if they've ever discussed Drake's age in Uncharted 1, but personally I think he's early 30s.

"The story behind the biggest game of the year"

Haha yeah... no.

You have to pop on every Uncharted thread to talk about MGSV? At some point it stops becoming a joke - more so when your post history is taken to account. Aka, derailing discussion.
----------------------------------------

Anyway, not sure what they have that Gameinformer does not have. Perhaps better quality screens for a new avatar? Perhaps...

This is you and other people who don't live in the real world.

People on this forum, in this thread are actually arguing the use of a statement that accurately reflects the hype this series gets? I don't think I'm in the right place anymore.

I don't know if it's an age thing or if it's the complete loss of common sense but I'm just so confused witnessing this.

The flashback to 15 year old Nate was 20 years before Uncharted 3. 4 is 3 years after 3.

Oh Lord, you guys are right. Had a brain fart there.

I forgot about that detail. Maybe it's because Uncharted 3 is the least memorable.
I'm kidding nac ;)

Edit: Although we don't really know in what month he was born. Maybe he's 39 :)

The bigger question will be whether or not the photomode will extend to the cutscenes now that they're going to run in realitme.
The realtime cutscenes in TLoU let you activate it but you couldn't move the camera. I think you could apply effects and filters though. Can't remember.
