Johnny Gat is larger than life in Volition's Saints Row: Gat Out of Hell standalone expansion. In Gat Out of Hell players take on the role of Johnny Gat as he is sent into hell via a nefarious spirit board incident and left to combat demons, the horrors of the underworld (including prominent historical figures) and, of course, the Devil himself.

Platform/s: Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One
Price: $20USD, $50USD bundle
Release Date: January 20 (US), January 23 (EU)
Modes: Single player, multi-player (co-op)
Links:

You control Johnny Gat or Kinzie Kensington in an open-world sandbox. Gat out of Hell shares many gameplay aspects with the previous installments, being primarily played as a third-person shooter in an open world city scattered with quests, secondary objectives, and various collectibles. Superhuman abilities return from Saints Row IV. Gat out of Hell introduces "angelic flight", giving wings to the player. Unlike past Saints Row games, players cannot customize the playable characters; however, by importing a Saints Row IV save, players can import their custom Boss character to replace the default Boss.

Unlike game progression in previous titles, players advance through the story by completing activities to fill a "Satan's Wrath" meter, which unlocks cutscenes and further story elements. Gat out of Hell takes place in an open-world new to the series, New Hades, made up of five islands: Shantytown, Barrens, Downtown, Forge, and the Den, all surrounding a central tower on a middle island. (Shamelessly stole from Wikipedia, thanks contributors.)

I sadly did not pick up SRIV when it came out, which was silly as SR3 is one of my favorite games. Really looking forward to this.

Love Volition.

Pre-load finished a while ago. WHEN CAN I PLAY?!

... Wait, I apparently have to wait two extra days because I'm in Australia? What the fuck

Impressions of the DLC? Trying to decide if I want the full game or just the DLC, I enjoyed the full game on the 360 but never finished it for some reason. Not sure I want to start over though, I wish I could import my saved game then I would buy with no hesitation.

so in Gat out of Hell, all I am seeing my quest log are minigames...is this all it is? Dropping the game immediately if so...wtf.

Lyte Edge

All I got for the Vernal Equinox was this stupid tag
Does Gat Out Of Hell PC have fixed audio? I reinstalled SRIV for this and was disappointed to find that the audio issues were still present.

Considering how self aware the guys behind the Saints Row series seem to be, I find it funny they still continuously force Johnny Gat down our throats even though I don't know anyone who likes the character.

Still a great game series mind

Gat has been my favorite character in the series since Saints Row 1. Of course, I've often been accused of having bad taste so.

SR4 is SR3 with hacks enabled.

I liked 3 more.

I 100%'d Saints Row 3, didn't even get halfway through 4 I think. On paper, I should like it, I liked all of the crazy stuff in Crackdown for example but the structure (and theme) of the game in 4 just wasn't appealing to me.

I've played an hour or so of GOOH on PS4. It's pretty fun but the story missions are really short. Like they've all been 3-5 minutes long. There's lots of side content but it's mostly just SRIV stuff with a hellish twist.

Same here (okay didn't 100% but played thru the game twice), and after a few hours in SR4 just really didn't grab me like SR3 did.

I purchased the PC version for $5, but before I start it does it support Ultra-Widescreen (21:9) displays?

Should mention GOOH crashed on me once during free roam early on (PS4). Didn't lose any progress due to auto save. Otherwise it's been pretty fine.

I feel like mentioning that I took advantage of the pricing error on Gamestop and pre-ordered GOOH for five dollars, and Gamestop has honored my purchase, complete with the bonus DLC.
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH

I was expecting to play this today, but I have to wait until Friday before Steam unlocks it. This is really disappointing. :\

After playing SRIV for 50 minutes and Gat out of Hell for 30 min here are my first impressions, after getting a 98% completion when the game came out on PS3.

SRIV:
- major framerate bump (seems to be running >30fps) but it's obvious it's not even close to 60fps in the open world
- 1080p makes the game a lot more crisp and gets rid of all the ugly-ass jaggies in the PS3 version
- UI is very slick as opposed to the slow and laggy one on the PS3
- Models and lighting look much better than PS3 version, however the textures still look like shit
- Controls are mostly the same (L1 as sprint is taking some time to get used to instead of L2)
- The very first mission had a shitload of graphical glitches, such as the cars in the desert falling through the floor, resulting in terrorists driving an invisible car

SRGooH:
- holds 60fps better than SRIV does
- visually looks better (textures look less like shit)
- I was actually surprised to see my SRIV character transfer without any mounting/transfer prompt
- the flying reminds me of a less crappy-controlling Wing Cap Mario from Mario 64
- Ultor having a role in the plot shocked the fuck outta me, same with that SR2 guy coming back
- mostly side-missions seems interesting, I like the idea

Overall it's a solid port. It's not really a remaster, it feels like an up-scaled port and that's it. Having all the SRIV dlc is nice, and I can't wait to try it.
That's all for now, folks. I'll put up a screenshot or two of the game (PS4 ver.) in the console screenshot thread later.

Gat Out Of Hell is dogshit, follows the Ubisoft open world formula to a tee. The serious lack of actual meaty story missions makes it even worse.

Wow now that's a bug. Was playing Gat, just flying around grabbing orbs, I go into the map menu and "This is test for typing. Wrap wrap" Something like that, pops up in a box and I can't leave the screen. Had to shut down the program to get out of it.

And the menus re glitchy keep flashing between my xbox controller buttons and PC controls though in the game it just displays the PC controls when giving me directions "Use tab to jump".

Took me about 3-4 hours to beat Gat out of Hell.
This was mainly because I was a bit confused as to what actually moved the satan wrath bar up. For anyone playing only red tasks will increase his rage along with some stuff in the loyalty mission. I wouldn't bother with the flying challenges, Insurance Fraud, and stuff like that if you're just trying to get to the end.

Also the cutscene before the last boss glitched on me.
It played the opening cutscene but had the subtitles of the real scene.
It then showed under the level all the lava and after a few seconds actually went to the boss.
No clue what caused it.

So Nvidia Shadowplay recorded my quicklook at 3840x2160 at 60fps running only off my one GTX 980 at ultra settings. The render is going to take about an hour, but its going to be a sweet upload.

That all being said, based on what I've played, I'm glad I got this for 5 bucks, 20 seems like it would be a bit much for a side quest game.

Digging Gat out of Hell more than I expected. Flying around is a blast and I fully expect some superhero game to knick the mechanics in order to make flight a bit more engaging.

You should have two keys from GS, Gat and the preorder DLC. Key you're entering is likely the DLC.

I've played every other SR game besides 4 and I was thinking about picking this up for PS4. Would you guys recommend it?

Absolutely.

The game is loaded to the brim with pop culture references, some amazing music choices, excellent voice acting by Nolan North and Troy Baker, boatload of crazy activities and a main campaign that's littered with so much awesomeness that you'll be grinning through it all.

The PS4 version is very weird, the disc only holds SR4 remastered. Gat DLC is a 5gb download, 7gb install and a completely seperate game with its own platinum trophy. You do not need the disc for Gat DLC.

On xbox one its a combined game, both are on disc. I don't know why the PS4 version is not like that, its going to suck for used game buyers since they will only get the remaster and not Gat out of hell.

Anyways agree with the early reviews above, its pretty meh. Textures are still pretty bleh and it has that shitty matrix shimmer all the time. If you've never played before and liked SR2/SR3 then yeah you should grab it on PC or ps4/xbone, but if you already played it then there really isn't much reason to. Gat DLC is standalone on PC and ps4 so you can just buy that when its on a deep discount.

That's terrible and forces day 1 buys on PS4. Hopefully the code doesn't expire if you try to pick up a new copy much later.

My impressions after 3 hours or so with GOOH is not that it's a terrible game, but that it's not drastically different from SRIV other than the occult theme. SRIV twisted a lot of SR3's stuff further into something new, but GOOH is pretty much just hellish reskins of a lot of SRIV's stuff... and SRIV does almost everything better honestly.

I figured it out. Gamestop's DLC code policy is stupid.

Anyway, this game opens with Kinzey's Birthday party and MF Doom is playing on the radio. WE FUCKIN' IN DERE!

The flying reminds me of the gliding levels in Tonic Trouble, handles pretty similarly. except its a lot more fun flying around an open world instead of just gliding down a linear path

Few hours in, I've never been more completely whelmed by a game.

I figured it out. Gamestop's DLC code policy is stupid.

The 'base game required' policy is on Steam, unless you're referring to GameStop's lack of emailing the actual game's key to you.
