Fahrenheit: Indigo Prophecy Remastered heading to Steam on January 29

To the people who haven't played this but have played Heavy Rain/Beyond, here's how I'd rate the Quantic games;

1: Heavy Rain
2: Fahrenheit
3: Beyond

If you just stop after you do the first half of the game, Fahrenheit wins. It is absolutely amazing up to a point.

No, no no.

1: Omikron
2: Beyond
2: Fahrenheit
4: Heavy Rain

That's better.

Interactive Drama ? An intuitive control scheme and spectacular split-screen presentation complement the game's mysterious noir narrative.

nothing was intuitive about those simon says ass events.

Extensive Replayability ? With branching dialog and multiple endings, each playthrough of the game yields a different outcome.

what ending you get is literally decided in your final choice at the end.

Multiple Characters ? Take control of the narrative through four different playable characters, each illuminating a different perspective of the story.

four? lucas and the two cops...that makes three.

How hard did you look exactly.

Higher res textures don't mean much, when the PC version was a port of the PS2 version and looked like ass. If the models and environment were touched up as well, then it's different. But if the screenshots on Amazon are any indication, then it looks like a texture mod and hardly like a remaster.

Seems neat, I'll definitely check it out. The game got weird but I enjoyed it. This part seems odd though:

"Multiple Characters ? Take control of the narrative through four different playable characters, each illuminating a different perspective of the story"

Maybe I forgot something, but I only remember the two detectives and the main dude as being playable, no fourth character.

It does look like the screenshots in that Amazon listing are from the remastered version. Couldn't find higher quality footage of the (old) PC version, but here's a messy comparison:

Remastered (?) screenshot from Amazon:

Youtube screencap from old PC version:

If anyone has the PC game installed, maybe they can take a better screenshot.

Isn't a texture mod already beyond the scope of your typical remaster? It's not like they did anything to God of War Collection beyond making them run at 720p and stabilizing the framerate, and that's pretty much the bare necessities to be considered a remaster.

Nomad Soul was really fantastic, great atmosphere, lore and story. I would love to see it remade.
Farenheit never appealed to me.

I somehow totally forgot Omikron, even though I just grabbed on Steam. Very cool game -- a little ahead of it's time.

Hate his stuff with Sony. Heavy Rain was thematically and aesthetically interesting but really let down by the writing and Cage's inability to tell a grounded story. His last game was junk. I honestly don't even mind the Dragon's Lair interactive movie-thing, but Cage needs and editor or writing partner at the very least to keep his ego in check.

Then it's inherently not a rerelease if you concede that it functionally and visually differs.

Nice. I already own the original version on Steam but always ran into control issues whenever I tried to replay it. If it's properly done then I'll definitely be getting this version.

Another one (although not the exact same screenshot).

Either way, it's good that the game is back on Steam.

Just looks like they've upped the contrast on the newer pics. GOG's screenshots look pretty similar to the Amazon ones.

Controls were rubbish on PC. I'll be getting this one.

edit: Turns out I've still got it installed on my system. I can take some shots.

I think you're right. Please excuse my overreaction.

Put this on current-gen console and I will purchase the shit out of it.

I would be shocked if that isn't the endgame for this new version, but I'd have to think that QD is starting with PC and mobile to help gauge interest, since there are far fewer barriers for them to cross.

Heavy Rain is as good as it gets, overall? Welp...

IMO, yeah. Story is at least a little more natural; I think when Cage goes supernatural, things go real real bad, usually.

I'm going to have to place Beyond above Fahrenheit. Beyond's story made sense and the characters were far more interesting. I know it's trendy to trash on the latest effort but the way Fahrenheit falls apart story-wise can't put it at number two here, IMO.

To me, the highs of Fahrenheit are higher than Beyond, but I also -really- liked Beyond too. It's a dice roll. I feel Beyond kind of fell apart at the end too, but that's just me.

And where is Omikron? C'mon!

No, no no.

Never played Omikron, can't rate!

With PS4 Beyond basically definitely happening I cant see them remastering Fahrenheit and not releasing it alongside it.

Thrown in Heavy Rain, call it a bundle and sell it for £30 and I will jump on that without any hesitation.

Bring this to consoles. I'll buy this day one again. Idc, QD almost always sell me on grabbing a new console. a beyond remake on PS4 will probably push me into buying one sooner than later, too. His games are great, imo; flawed masterpieces that attempt something new.

And a new Omikron.

What about Heavy Rain and Beyond?

QD owns those IPs, right?

I'd like to see those on PC as well.

Apparently, Sony owns Heavy Rain now, but I'm not sure what the status is on Beyond: Two Souls. Given how much money that Sony has pumped into QD, I think it's fairly safe to say that those two aren't leaving Playstation systems any time soon.

JaseC

gave away the keys to the kingdom.
This is nice and all, but I still want QD to take five minutes to bring the original back to Steam. (I probably sound like a broken record at this point.)

Another comparison:

Looks like models are the same and it's just better textures.

Yeah, I figured they wouldn't be touching the poly counts (the food on the shelf is a flat texture, even!). They definitely needed new textures more, especially with how badly the faces have aged.

Wow, this is... really random.

That's how I'd rate them too. Fahrenheit starts going downhill precisely after the rollercoaster scene.

Did anyone really ask for this? I enjoyed the game on the PS2 back in the day, but the visuals are REALLY dated. Even back then they were dated as hell. Don't think the remaster will fix that.

Has this been posted yet?

The DRM is Steam.

There is also a mobile version coming.

Are these screenshots different from the original?

Oh. Well I guess that answers the question of how the hell you'd make a sequel to Fahrenheit. You wouldn't. Probably the right answer?

Looks like Fahrenheit to me. But I'm sure they're correct about the textures being better, you tend to remember games looking better than they really did.
I might get this, perhaps.
But those stealth segments.
I might not get this, perhaps.

I remember reading an article in Edge about Fahrenheit, after they got ditched by Vivendi (I think) but still a few years before it was released. Fascinating game, even though the story took a few horrible turns after the first half and it never became quite as good as the strong opening scene again. Still, the ideas were there.
