EA: Star Wars: Battlefront will recieve a Battlefield-sized marketing push

Its not a good a good sign so many people just want a reskinned Battlefield. You're ruining the chances the rest of us have of getting the game that Battlefront needs to be.

What is it that Battlefront needs to be?

I think people are wanting the massive battles, vehicles, and decent gunplay that Battlefield is big on, which have a lot to do with Battlefront as well. A lot of people prefer fps combat over TPS combat (I personally don't want the same exact set-up as the older games, though if done right I would like both to be viable options).

I doubt many are saying to the literal sense in wanting dozens of unbalanced loudouts with attachments that hardly make sense in the Star Wars universe.

A lot of people want FPS only, which isn't what Battlefront is about.

But in terms of the unbalanced loadouts and weapons, maybe people don't want that but they're not saying that, and the fact that people are willing to put up with that shit with mainline Battlefield doesn't inspire confidence that people would reject that in DICEfront.
Dodging, agility, TPS/FPS options, less ttk.

I can't really stand BF4. Too many unbalanced servers and map design that's complete shit.

This too.

At its core Battlefront and Battlefield are the same, the difference is Battlefront has a more focus on a third person camera, dodging which is too complicated in first person. Also Battlefront doesn't have customized loadout, just preset classes. And finally space battles.
Now i wouldn't mind DICE putting some modes from Battlefield in Battlefront like Rush.

I'm one of the biggest Star Wars Battlefront fans ever, I still play both installments to this day. Aspects that this game needs to retain in order for me to consider it a true Star Wars: Battlefront;

- 3rd Person OR 1st person view
- Space battles
- Set Classes (Only cosmetic changes and options, NO LOADOUTS)
- Clone Wars Era
- Heroes (Jedi, Sith, Bounty Hunters and the like)
- Galactic Conquest
- Bots (Instant Action) This one less than the others, though

If any of these conditions aren't met (barring the bots, that is secondary) then I will be disappointed. I'm sure that the game is going to be awesome (Hell, I've been waiting for it for nearly 10 years now) and I know that not everything on this list will make it (if any) but here's to hoping.

Edit: Another small thing that concerns me is kill times; I really hope the longish kill times are still present. A lot of player/player shootouts felt like duels in the first two, which I always liked.

I've pretty much come to terms with the thought that my most requested feature won't be an option. And that is the ability to just play 1v1 or 2v0 with AI bot filler.

What games have had TP/FP options with competitive multiplayer? Is there a significant advantage to either or?
Do people really play Battlefield competitively though? Like with lads of money on the line? I don't know, maybe they do. And for that you can probably add in an option to lock in first person, similar to how there is an option to lock in first person while driving vehicles. But for normal matches having slight advantages while playing in third person over first isn't really that big a deal.

Battlefield also had preset classes with no customization, in Battlefield 1942 which Pandemic used as a base for Star Wars: Battlefront 1. Change isn't necessarily a bad thing.

I put over 1000 hours into Star Wars: Battlefront II's multiplayer on the PlayStation 2 over three years. I know the game inside and out (literally too, I made mods that ran server-side for the PS2 version). I'm not afraid of DICEfront playing like Battlefield. I'm not afraid to lose the rolling, or third-person, or super long-TTK.

What I want from DICEfront is simple; playing the classic Star Wars battles anyway I want.

64 player (or more) Conquest.
Tight gunplay, first or third I don't care.
Great vehicle action.
Classic environments (direct remake of Mos Eisely please!).
Server rental day-one.
Class-based combat (hopefully at least five).
Galactic Civil War priority (never liked Clone Wars era).

I didn't mean pro-level but just normal online PvP multiplayer. I was just wondering if there was an advantage since people are so concerned about balance with the loadouts yet wanting two different perspectives in which one may have advantages over the other. It doesn't seem worth it to me to deal with balancing the modes when a vast majority prefer FP anyway.

Investors hoping for some of that Episode VII pie. I hope they keep a healthy distance between the game and the movie. I know Abrams was hurt by the Star Trek game and felt like it soured the movie.

Damn no clone wars??

For some reason I thought this was a 2016 release which seemed silly because it would come after the first movie and there's no game tie ins in sight. Great news, with all the hype for the movie all Dice has to do is release a few choice trailers and the games an eight million plus seller.

you tellin me EA is planning on promoting their big new Star Wars game that comes out alongside the new Star Wars movie

brave move from the suits

I haven't followed this a ton as I love the first battlefront games and also love battlefield so it is truly a no brainer I will be picking it up, so my only question is has a release date of this year been confirmed yet or is it just everyone is hoping it will be this year?

Heroes and classes are the two dealbreakers for me. I'll have zero interest in this game if I'm just some bland jamoke with a blaster.

I wonder if the ability to make a working save system still eludes them.

My confidence isn't high.

So there is potential for this to end up like halo mcc.

Suit - "You got till December, then this is getting released"

Dev - "umm, no guarantees cause we still have to.."

Suit - "DECEMBER. Got it."

I really want this game to have space battles (hopefully seamless ground-to-space like the original battlefront 3 promised) and clone wars era factions but I have a bad feeling they're going to save a ton of stuff like this for the inevitable sequels and expansions.

I really hope they keep heroes in there (more balanced is one thing, but getting rid of them completely would be depressing). I liked being rewarded for actually going for the objectives and trying to win compared to the numbnuts that rather camp all game padding their stats that mean absolutely nothing.

Going to a capture point that you were losing and pushing the enemy back as a hero was an exhilarating experience.

All we have is that they're 'aligning' the release in 2015 with the new film. No set date though.

Also thanks to those who replied, though I think some are still taking the Battlefield comments too literally on what people are waiting in the game. I highly doubt server problems, unbalanced play (between regular classes), attachments, and all that bloated nonsense is what people are talking about wanting.

I really want a SP campaign in this, we haven't had a SW pure FPS in 20 years. The Jedi Knight games were always third person for me.

I don't think it's gonna be a re-skin of BF4, but it's going to be far closer to that than the first two Battlefront games. It's probably gonna need to have systems like custom loadouts, XP, ADS etc as that is what people expect nowadays. If you want to blame someone for that then target Infinity Ward, not DICE.

I'm also not too worried about the game being rushed out, as by the time of it's release it will have been in development for over two and a half years on a ready-made engine that was specifically designed for Battlefront's sub-genre. Nothing guarantee'd obviously.Overall I'm cautiously optimistic, now that it works BF4 is the best online shooter I have ever played. This is likely the only game that could beat UC4 as my GOTY.

The fuck is this shit? It's Battlefront, it'll make bank no matter what and making it closer to the original guarantees more nostalgia sales. Even the people who aren't hardcore Battlefront fans would probably prefer to not have that shit, it's literally one of the reasons people hate CoD so much.

And this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rsH8LAb-5qQ

battlefield 3 and 4 campaigns were pretty bleh. Hopefully DICE is up for the challenge.

I'd be happy if they just did Battlefront I did. Just play a random clip from one of the movies, have a single screen of text and some voice over about what the point of the battle is, and then just have a bot match with maybe special enemies or classes or something.

Star Wars Republic Commando?

Also, I have to agree with the poster that those things are inherently expected as a requirement, though I disagree that they are all 'shit'. ADS and XP can likely have a place in Battlefront, though I'd rather not see custom weapon loudouts. Games like Evolve and even the base classes in Battlefield show that there's still strength in class roles. Would love to see cosmetic options though, maybe tied with some sort of ranking from overall XP rather than specific challenges.

I would argue the complete opposite. All the teenagers that buy CoD every year won't give a shit about older Battlefront features, and lets face it they are probably the target market.

Star Wars Republic Commando?

Personally I don't consider that a full-on FPS, absolutely love the game though.

we had Republic Commando 10 years ago

Do we know if this is crossgen? That'll play a big part in how stable the launch is.

And why does Hard line even exist? Visceral should be helping out on this, they really can't afford another rushed BF4-style blunder.

They aren't the target market. The target market is literally everyone who loved Battlefront as a kid or otherwise, it would be dumb to target a different market and alienate another major one that would buy into it easier.

And how is Republic Commando not a FPS?

That's a bold statement, It's their competition for CoD this year. They are absolutely targeting the general shooter market.

I didn't say it wasn't an FPS. I consider it a light tactical, slow paced FPS. A good modern FPS campaign in the SW universe sounds like it could be fun.

I wouldn't rule those things out. Tightened up, that gameplay can stand up well against, and perhaps above, the gameplay that has been proliferating the past generation and into this one.

They [consumers] buy what is fun, heavily marketed to them, and what all their friends are playing. Even being Star Wars, its sales may not reach Call of Duty, but that's not the goal and shouldn't be. But it can see similar aspects of success in that direction if it's treated to the above, and I can guarantee it will.

So, what wasn't FPS about Republic Commando? Don't think the game ever took the players out of that perspective, and the squad commands iirc didn't affect the game in a way that wouldn't detract it from the FPS genre.

Edit: Never thought I'd see the day a "tactical" FPS be less of an FPS than COD.

Sure, but those same people wouldn't give a damn about that terribleness you're advocating. The only people who care enough to find out about it see it as poison and would kill chances of them buying it. This is even ignoring the fact that even the audience you are describing wants that stuff anyways, and that nostalgia for Battlefront is enough to drive sales for this game.

And did you even play Republic Commando? It was more FPS than a lot of what gets classified as FPS today, and it wasn't slow at all nor was it tactical. The squad commands were a tiny part of the game.

Edit: Aww man, reading through these posts about cosmetic changes, totally down for Chewbacca and Han Solo skins, maybe even Leia for rebels, Rex, Cody, and Commando skins for republic, droid bounty hunters for CIS, and other bounty hunters for Empire. That sounds amazing.
