The Order: 1886 has gone gold

There seems to be a lot of double standards in play with this game versus other linear shooters. The cutscene/QTE balance seems similar to Tomb Raider 2013 or CoD AW but those never get compared to Quantic Dream games.

Yeah, and I've just finished Shadow of Mordor and there are at least ten stealth missions in that game where you fail instantly if you're discovered, and likewise I'm now playing Alien: Isolation and there are loads of QTEs, and I don't remember reviews bitching about any of that. I guess we'll see if reviewers have double standards and/or selective memories when it comes to The Order, but I'd wager that they will.

Think im going to give this a go. When it was first revealed I thought it looked great then for a long time I wasnt so sure.

With there not being a lot out in next few weeks ill be itching to play a new game.

I don't really see where people are seeing this reversal of public opinion about this game. It looks just as negative as the first day this game was announced.

I have this game preordered so I'm hoping it surprises people and proves the naysayers wrong, but if I'm being realistic I'm guessing this game is going to get 65-75 on metacritic from the press like every Sony exclusive that doesn't say Naughty Dog on the box.

Yeah, I loved AW but at times the game felt like it played itself. That first bike sequence where they are actually on autopilot and you can only move the camera around.

I have a feeling a similar sequence in The Order would never be lived down.

A coworker of mine, who I would refer to as a gamer but not a hardcore gamer (for example he does not know of NeoGaf, just IGN, he is also 46 years old), literally just picked up his PS4 during lunch break today. He already owns a XB1.

He always planned on picking a PS4 up for Uncharted 4, but guess what game made him decide to pick one up earlier? That's right. The Order: 1866.

So Sony is doing something right. This guy does not know about resolution or frame rate, he just plays games. And what he saw with the latest trailer was convincing enough to make him pick up the PS4 much earlier than he originally intended on doing so.

Why would you even wanna be a bad guy in this world when the Order has handheld weapons that nuke you to bits o__o

Goddamn, Chains of Olympus and Daxter are such great games... But this looks like a hollow piece of spectacle. I always planned on getting this day one but none of the recent footage has established it as anything more than a hardware flex.

Is there something I'm missing? Why are you guys amped?

Because it looks like an excellent third person shooter with great art design and stunning visuals?

Or maybe an 80 like infamous.

But you're not being realistic because this is a bare faced lie.

Who said that the people fighting the Order are bad guys, or even if the Order is good? With that kind of power, someone might love to abuse it.

I dunno I just get the impression that the media is overly critical of Sony exclusives for things they never even mention for games from other 1st parties or 3rd party devs.

I agree with your point but there are plenty of Sony games that score 75+ on Metacritic, such as Media Molecule games, Gran Turismo, God of War, Infamous, etc.

Okay, it's been quoted like a million times, but I have to just say, the most "pleasant" part of this gif is how the blood lands after the body. And the whole thing looks ridiculous, as in graphically ridiculous.

The whole world just feels so coherent.

I hope to hell this game doesn't get savaged just because it's solid but doesn't do anything "new". For a first effort in the big leagues, I'll be more than happy if RAD delivers a game with solid mechanics wrapped in a compelling or at least interesting story. Lord knows they have the graphics sorted. If they can do that, then they set themselves up to deliver with a sequel.

I, for one, can't wait to see how they treat the whole premise of the ancient Knighthood v Half breeds, and the lore that would presumably date back a thousand years. I know I'm getting ahead of myself, but I'm already thinking about sequels in other time periods!

In RAD I trust.

I agree, people don't appreciate or see what exactly developers trying to do in the game instead they just say after looking at some trailer or small demo that its boring, its just another cover shooter, no multiplayer/co-op etc., This game is about the story, characters, atmosphere, graphics/sound with immersion with accompanied sold third person gameplay elements along with some QTE and other things to support. They don't care about what this game is good at and trying something new instead they directly copy others its just clone of another game and QTE. Due to multiplayer oriented gamers these days many studios are closing and moving into F2P online games to survive where they don't need work hard and be creative to earn profits like SF games. Its really going to be last gen and Order 1886 will be one of the last single player only AAA game forever. RIP SP games.

Guys, remember this?

He then spawned in a bunch of teddy bears and went all Robocop on their stuffed asses, first blowing off a head, and then four limbs one at a time. This might sound like a gimmick, but we were all assured that dynamic destruction, texture warping and convincing object physics lie at the heart of The Order: 1886′s gameplay. When the crowd asked why, we were told it wasn’t yet time for that particular discussion.

It's starting to make sense now…

Man, have you ever seen a game where things seem competently made and everyhting, but it feels like something is missing? I get that from this game.

I'd admit that it does feel too linear and handhold-y for my own tastes, but besides that... I dunno, maybe its just because they've been so mum on the actual story. When you've got a linear game, story usually really drives the gameplay and motivation.

Hrm... maybe its just missing the right hook. So far its simply the anachronism that it's been showcasing, but maybe the right character or story hook could push it over the top. Or maybe the unique weapons will give it some oomph.

Of course, this is simply the impressions from the few trailers. We'll see what the actual game is like.

Also, woooooo finally can post XD

Is the the "lack of soul" or the "not next gen gameplay"?

They're not, you just gotta take off your fanboy glasses for a few seconds.

Edit: Holy shit at the gif above! Three weeks!
