You may have seen this image on the Internet before, on one side a man is walking a dog with no shirt on. On the other side a women is doing the same thing.

The image has captions saying that if the man can do it and isn't wrong or indecent or harming children, ect then neither is the women.

The picture was removed for violating Facebook TOS.

What do you guys think? Is it wrong for a women to walk around topless like guys do? If it's not wrong for a man, why is it for a women? Isn't that sexist?

Hiding breasts only seems to further the idea that they are sex objects. They can't be anything else. They are toys for male stimulation and sexual in nature and nothing more. If a women is hot on a sunny day it is wrong for her to take her shirt off, like a guy would... But why? It seems like yet another double standard against women. Men can do it and nobody thinks otherwise. If a women does it it's wrong, Sluty, will damage children, ect. Makes no sense to me.

If we hide away a womens body like some dirty secret, that's exactly what it becomes. Women should have the choice, just as men do. If they want to be topless or post topless pictures of themselves it's their choice. It shouldn't be grounds for censorship.

Edit.

Here is the photo, nsfw...

Men don't have tits

I'm all for topless women, but tits are seen as private parts, ask a woman to take her to off and she will say no.

It's just how it is, just accept it.

You're right OP. Stop self-censoring and post the image

Setting aside that Facebook is a private site, and as such have no particular obligation to host anything they feel their users might object to, a topless man is displaying, at most, tertiary sexual characteristics (musculature, chest hair), whereas a topless woman is displaying secondary characteristics. If that sounds like a silly and arbitrary place to draw the line, it is, but so is basically every other social standard.

I think that your views are your own, and by doing something like that on facebook, you are asking for confrontation and trying to deliberately get a rise out of people.

Yeah I think it is a silly thing our culture has made regarding boobs. But maybe facebook isn't the best place for your protest.

Yeah, I agree. It's dumb how facebook/instagram are perpetuating these cultural norms. if people want to post them, let them. and there are so many ways to block people on facebook, it's not like you can't hide unwanted shit anyways. I get the reasoning behind Facebook's actions, but more than anything, it's just lazy.

i don't mind nudists and they did make the summers i worked on a beach bar that much more enjoyable but i have to imagine that most people would rather wear some sort of bra than nothing at all while doing anything other than standing still

Men and women are different in some ways OP. Men just don't have breasts. And breasts are inherently sexual to the majority of society. That's not really sexist thinking imho. :/

Meh. Doesn't really bother me either way. I feel like this is my reaction to most things though. Lol I have a serious problem with my lack of empathy for anything.

It's technically against the terms of service. Sometimes I report posts like that my friends put up, especially if they think they're making some grand political statement. It's funny when they get super mad about it being taken down.

I totally agree, OP. But then again I'm a nudist. I would love nothing more than for the nude body to be separated from the sexual connotations most our society seems to hold towards it, so that people can be free to wear what they want.

I can totally show off my breasts on facebook. I have picks of me cosplaying Tira from Soul Calibur with all kinds of boobage going on. What I can't do is show my nipple, something that both men and women share. And that's pretty fucking weird.

Why do you report them? Not criticizing, I'm just wondering why you bother.

You just had to say that during RPJ. *uses imagination*
it was a couple months ago and she still does it
You're right, October.

I think your right. People could just hide it. And yes, fb is lazy. Haha.

My impression is that makes up a significant portion of the reason many people use Facebook

Do we really want to live in a world where breasts aren't arousing? Sometimes we have to accept a little bit of sexism, racism, ageism in order to enjoy life.

they probably need that one very objective an unobjectionable detail to be able to enforce anything at all, if they were to leave the prohibition of boobies at "can display nudity but only so much as not to offend contemporary standards" it would be ripe for abuse by its users and a huge headache for their lawyers

1. If a women doesn't want to that's fine. I'm talking about a women who may want to. It's just another choice that women are denied by society.

2. Just accepting things is how things never change. Great advice.

if a guy can go topless into shops and shit like that a woman should be allowed to, i dont see why its okay for an obese man to be topless but a woman topless is the worst thing in the world and they are whores. it makes no sense and actually makes me angry.

thats crap, some men do have tits and they look much worse than female tits, second, tits are seen as private because of cultural reason and sexism. if a girl doesnt want to show her breasts thats fine, but having laws against it and removing photos from instagram and facebook is extremely stupid and sexist, especially when the photos they remove aren't sexual in any way.

That produce breast milk?

well yes, men are capable of producing breast milk, but i dont really see how breast milk changes the definition of breasts

If that's the only distinction, it's extremely arbitrary.

Sexual parts are denied by society, women have breasts, men don't, just like women aren't typically allowed to show their breasts men aren't allowed to show their penis. It's not like there's this huge group of women just waiting for the chance to show their breasts and be topless constantly, actually, in that pic you posted the women is wearing less clothing than the man.

Yes, it is possible for some men to lactate
This is the first time i've heard of this.

This is a false argument.

Seeing breasts all the time won't diminish their sexual value, but it will mean that seeing them isn't instantly a sexual experience.

It would be a world where the situation itself has to be sexual, not just a body part in front of you. It's strange that if a women exposes her breasts it's now a sexual thing. Also, seeing more of them would give people, especially younger males a more realistic view of women's bodies. That 1. There not just sex objects and 2. Breasts come in all shapes and sizes.

just like women aren't typically allowed to show their breasts men aren't allowed to show their penis.

So women can show their vagina?
Or, if they're not allowed to show their vagina, are men not allowed to show their vagina either?

Since, otherwise we have an imbalance in this.

Um, what? More like just like how women cannot show their vagina, men cannot show their penis. Even though boobs are seen as "private," they are not genitalia and women are far more private with their genitals.

And someone else raised a good point: it's not the breast, which you can show--it's the nipple. Something that both men and women have.
