It's been so long ago and I know times have changed, but how did Atlus handle P4 information from its announcement up until it launched? Just how much can we expect to know about P5 before it launches?

IIRC, the first Japanese Persona 3 reveal HAD a lot of content.

The US Persona 4 reveal was at a panel at Anime Expo. It was mostly the opening video & a date. Also, they gave everybody there a P4 T-Shirt which I still have.

Just a reminder folks. No waifu shit.

Also, YOSUKE!? He's like the most boring character in P4.

RIP, Paskil. You were a true patriot.

Famitsu revealed Persona 4 in March 2008 with a 17-minute trailer and released it four months later in July 2008.

They had a massive blowout of information. Clearly, times have changed and how they release information has also changed.

Seriously. I mean, he's cool and all I guess, but #1? I dunno.

I'm more surprised that Rise and Yukiko were so low. I would've thought they'd both be higher with Rise being as fun as she is and Yukiko being as down to earth. I thought both were pretty standout characters.

At least Kanji wasn't near the bottom. =/

Well, don't say that yet...

Yeah some people actually expect another 17 minutes trailer for p5 , but things are changed.
This isnt going to happen again.

But i cant see this game be released after June 2015 .. i have this feel gonna be a May release (5th month of the year).

Yosuke is a bro

He's always there for Yu :) (would have linked the anime pic with Yosuke comforting Yu
after the whole Nanako thing
but couldn't find a pic for that)

Seriously, didn't know Yosuke was disliked so much :(

Nanako is my fave though <3 followed by Naoto. I do like Yosuke a lot though.

I dont remember that, was that in the anime only?

I don't think it's so much that he's disliked, but that it's surprising he's #1.

I voted for Dojima though. Wish they released the full list.

I like Yosuke. But in terms of plot, and overall character design, he's not even in the top 5 more interesting characters in the story. Him being #1 is still weird to me. I guess I don't understand Japan hah.

He's def a bro. And I like him. Just surprised people LOVE him that much. That he was #1. Hah.

I think sometimes people forget that Persona 4 extends beyond Persona 4 the game. Their popularity isn't limited to the games, either..

I'm honestly not terribly surprised Yosuke made it to #1. From the English translation perspective of the game (because that's the only one I know), he comes across as one of the more authentic/natural characters that just makes him feel more believable. Plus he's just fun and cool.

So I watched the p3 movie recaps they had going after the top 25 songs and... That was actually pretty cool (and I dont even understand japanese!). Will be looking forward to the next three chapters or whatever they are called.

Wasnt there an anime too? Or was that for p4? That one started well, but dragged on for too long, I didnt even bother to continue.

Well since I don't remember and can't find a good pic of that scene...

I'll post this instead

Hugs ^_^

Oh god, them feels.

Can't handle.

EDIT:

Also now it totally makes sense why Yu and Yosuke are so popular in Japan. I'm 100% ignorant to Japan culture, but I couldn't go anywhere without seeing Free! plastered every corner I walked by in Tokyo (lived in Tokyo for a year, and am actually moving back to live full time in 3 months).

I like Yosuke. But in terms of plot, and overall character design, he's not even in the top 5 more interesting characters in the story.

Yosuke is integral to the plot. He's the one who's personally involved in the murder mystery and his story isn't complete until the end. The other characters exist only to make up the episodic adventures in the middle of the story.

The top song and character segments were interesting. One song that came out of nowhere and is now in my personal top 10 is The Bond of Everyone's Souls from the P4 anime. It gave me chills when I first heard it! I love all the "...of Everyone's Souls" songs, but Bond was the first to change up the vocals (I think) and it is a really great song.

They don't need to make it P4 reveal for P5, a 3-4min. trailer showcasing battle, town and dungeon exploration, other party members, ending with a V.201V date at the end would be godly.

Then the usual Famitsu/Dengeki "scoops" + another trailer and we're golden.

I was surprised to see Yosuke at #1 but now that I think about it, it makes a certain amount of sense. I'm guessing the other characters were more popular with one gender or the other, whereas Yosuke was probably moderately popular among both men & women which pushed him to #1. He's also the first major character you meet in the game so he gets more screen time than just about anybody else.

Dude... that guy is Bro tier. He doesnt get angry at anybody even trough everyone is a dick to him. And he sticks to the group even after some kicks to the crotch.

And in the end the only problem he has that they could come up with is jealousy.

I think he deserves to be number 1... at least after all those dickkicks.

First off, no I'll Face Myself (Reincarnation) in place of The Almighty or New World Fool is surprising. Also, no Iwatodai Dorm in that list is a travesty.

Memories of You was always going to be first. Just look at the top 10 voted back in 2013, it won that time too and Persona 4 Golden had just come out.

Also, Yosuke being #1 and Adachi being #3 is really weird to me. The former I felt would be top 5 but not #1. I dislike the latter and would never vote for him, but I guess the guy that said that the otaku would relate to him might make some sense, so I guess that's where the votes come from. Or that episode they made about him. Anyway, Dojima should've taken his place in the top 10.

-
Edit:
I liked Adachi.
I thought he was a pretty interesting villain. He seemed pretty realistic, mid twenties, bitter about life choices, entitled, a manchild, misogynist, he's more relevant now as a character than ever before.

I suppose people could be voting for him for the wrong reasons, like for stupid memes or something. But to me, he's up there with my favourite characters.

Hm, seeing it that way, yeah. Either way, all the characters feel grounded and I love all (or 99%) of the cast.

Now, about the P4D opening. THE VISUALS ARE AMAZING. I love the art. It's different from P4G's a bit but still focuses on shapes, colours and textures (like TV static or now something similar to carbon) and I looove that. Now I'm pretty sure the UI for Persona 5 will be just amazing as Persona 4 Golden's.

This is what I get for not voting. He's definitely my least favorite party member at the very best.

Top 25 song list is pretty good though.

Yosuke being #1 was a little surprising but totally understandable, even though the Japanese don't even have the awesome Yuri Lowenthal voice. Adachi being even on there, let alone #3, was my biggest surprise. He's just a prick
butthurt about a girl not liking him which makes him turn to murder.
Not #3 material in my book.

Though I guess the relatively recent release of Ultimax where he's playable might've had something to do with this?

The Yosuke dislike feeds me, it sustains me. He and Kanji tie for my favorite character from P4 with Nanako, Dojima, and Teddie being the next three.

From what I recall, Japan LOVES Adachi. I'm not surprised he ranked as high as he did. He was one of my favorite characters thanks to JYB's performance. Yosuke deserves to be #1. He's kind of a dick but he's an awesome best friend. I felt that out of the main cast, everyone except Yosuke was just kinda there. I felt like Yosuke developed throughout the whole game. You really get to know him even outside his social link, unlike Yukiko for example. After her social link introduction I don't think she ever even addresses Yu. She just sits there.

Goddamn, my list is like...almost the opposite. Chie is still high up there, but Yosuke is just your typical annoying perverted teenager. Adachi...I haven't finished the game, and I expect there's a plot twist involving him because he's such an "extra", but he is pretty annoying and whiny right now.

Yukiko is topsies for me. Rise is cool, Nanako might be the best little girl in a video game, and Kanji makes me laugh heartily. I understand not liking Marie, though. I'm iffy on her right now.

Just to be clear to Shouta: I'm not rating the female characters in terms of "waifu" potential. I just mean in terms of how much I've enjoyed their roles in the story. Or, in the case of Chie, I love her battle stance and Galactic Kick assist. Both just fit her so well. I wish the other characters had more animated stances like she does.

It goes to show how good P4 characters are that I probably have no idea how I would rank that list, other than Kanji probably being #1, Rise probably at #8, and Adachi and especially Marie being way below the rest. I love Chie, I love Brosuke, I love Naoto, I love Teddie, I love Yukiko, I love Ryotaro, Nanako is among the very few child characters I've found 100% endearing and adorable, and dear god if Kanji isn't one of the most awesome characters to ever grace a videogame.

I like P3's darker atmosphere more, but I've always felt there was a disconnect between the characters; as if you, Junpei and Yukari were the gang and the rest were peripheral, almost like "grown ups" doing their own thing. The fact that I can't stand Yukari adds salt to the wound. In P4 it feels like everyone is part of "the gang", as if they are a group of friends (YOUR friends) that actually enjoy hanging together, and that adds so much more warmth to the offbeat story scenes. I couldn't help but smile pretty much every time there was a story event with them.

Wouldn't say he's misogynist. He hated pretty much everyone and viewed them as inferior/pointless. Agree with most everything else

Pretty much my thoughts exactly. I admit Yosuke had some good scenes here and there, but pretty much everything outside of those I find him extremely annoying and he is really the only one of the entire party who I can't stand.

Ironically, this is why I like P3 more than P4. I really like that your team is a bunch of people who all have their own separate goals and even though they have all this money and support they don't work well together. It made it feel more significant to me when in the end they all came together for a truly unified purpose. I can agree that P4 is an improvement in a lot of things, and the party feels more dynamic in P4 but I think I'll always prefer P3.

True that. Almost all the cast of P3 didn't care or boss around the MC. Didn't care about anyone story in P3, besides Akihiko I guess. Even Akihiko most of the time is a fucking douche.

He would not have been my #1, as I would have voted for Dojima. But, do you guys and gals really think a US/American/English list would be all that different? When the weather app was in the iTunes store (which, again, you can get in on the beta soon, people would email me asking for more Yosuke, more Naoto, and more Chie. Very few asked for other characters, and if they did, it was strange minor ones like Yumi or P3 characters like Ken.

It kind of makes sense that the first party characters you meet and get in the game, Yosuke and Chie, are the two of the highest people. And, with the expansion of Adachi in P4G, he makes sense as well. The one I never got the love for was Naoto as I find her boring.
