... for a rousing game of Magic The Gathering
Has this ever happened in fiction before? You have this smart, rich and well dressed male character who appears to be a total dreamboat. Maybe he's a wall street banker or something equally as high profile or white collar. A female character falls absolutely in love with him or the other way around where the male character seduces her instead. After the initial meet up however it turns out the rich upper class male has some esoteric hobbies which in this case is Magic The Gathering.
The female character could be repulsed by this or intrigued or even confused as to why such a man would indulge himself with such "nerdy" or "geeky" stuff. Or lets be fair and say the woman is not a complete air-head and makes an attempt to appreciate the hobby since her love interest loves it so much. Or even the woman is indeed repulsed and leaves the man who goes onto date another woman (this one perhaps more homely in appearance but likes to play MTG or similar card games too). The first woman then feels stupid and foolish for having left the otherwise "perfect" man for something so petty.
Any examples? Have such "geeky" hobbies ever been portrayed in a positive or even neutral light? Or is stuff like PnP RPG's, card games (on motorcycles?) and anime/manga the realm of bottom feeders as far as Hollywood is concerned?
Mind you the Wall Street banker may not tell everyone of his hobby, just family and close friends who wouldn't look down upon him for it. Or forget MTG, maybe he plays video games.
What about musical tastes? Maybe he listens to grunge metal or k-pop or something equally "unconventional"?
