I still might see it this weekend :(

What a disappointing career post-District 9 so far though :/

I really, really don't want this guy to become the next Shyamalan.

Man people really hated Elysium huh.

I didnt mind it. It wasnt amazing like District 9 but it was watchable.

The previews for this have been compelling enough to warrant my attention. Like every one else I loved D9 big time but Elysium - it was a waste of time. I'm still going into this with an open mind, if it's halfway between the other two films quality-wise then I'd be satisfied. Anyway I'll wait to see what the consensus is following release before considering going to the theater vs grabbing it on demand, later. My hopes aren't high, but not dashed either.

I don't give a flying rats ass about negative reviews. I'm still gonna watch this sucker, cause the trailer made all giddy. I love District 9 and i thought Elysium was good, but lacked the focus and story that would have made it a sci-fi classic.

I didn't even care about District9 so he's like 3 out of 3 bad to me... I still hope he does something at least decent for Alien. He can kiss his career goodbye otherwise, maybe the pressure helps him actually.

Well maybe a big part of GAF will like it anyway. I always see a lot of love for Speed Racer on this forum, even though that has a shittier score on Rotter Tomatoes than Chappie (so far)/

Still looking forward to seeing it. Though I did find the trailers to be a bit uneven, that Sony wasn't really confident about the film.

It's at 8.1 at IMDB atm, so it should be worth the money
Going to see it this evening

LOL

Films targeted at young men with a lot of hype behind them ALWAYS start high on IMDb. Don't fall for it.

IMDb is a fucking sham. I wouldn't be surprised if film companies create shill accounts to vote 10 for their movies. Because people like you decide what you are going to see by IMDb scores alone.

I feel like, for the most part, RT is a pretty accurate predictor of quality films. I tend to agree with the audience score over the critic score, but most things over 80% on both have a great chance of being good. That 70-80% range, though, total crappie shoot.

Chappie has now surpassed Speed Racer (39%) and is fast approaching Miami Vice (47%).

there are 2 directors that have potential to make good sci fi movies this generation.
Joseph Kosinski and Neill Blomkamp. They have the vision and visuals down but not the screenwriting .

I'm deciding depending on trailers and what references the director and actors have.
Scores just give me an indicator if it's so bad that's not worth it (like scores <50%). But I dont trust RT at all, the scores there are horrible bad.
e.g. Bad Boys 2 is one of the most fun action movies to me and it's 23% at RT and 6,5 at IMDB - Reviews mean nothing.

We can all still agree that he is the singular man to make a robot who shoots guns movie. There really is no other who can compete with the way he is able to add humanity to robots and how cool he makes the same robots shooting guns.

If this guy made Terminator it would be considered a epic drama.

Yeah it is just an indicator, but it seems my taste is more like the RT than a (vocal?) part of GAF.

Speedracer is loved here on GAF, I hated it and so did RT
Dark Knight Rises is absolutely hated here on GAF, but I liked it and so did RT

So it seems I tend to agree with RT... although Bad Boys II seems to be a huge exception because I loved that :p I hope Chappie is an exception too.

It is never a guarantee ofcourse.

Star Trek Into Darkness has an 87% tomatometer? Lordy.

Speed Racer is a whole hell of a lot weirder than Chappie is.

I've actually startet to like Elysium after I realized it's just a 80's action film with a modern visual style.

Too late for that.

I remember everybody being excited in the other thread (except me). If this turns out to be even worse then 4 Alien is dead. This guy is good with visuals but storytelling is not his quality. He seems like a lowlife version of Ridley Scott.

I never understood why they would ever name a multi-million dollar film "Chappie". It sounds so off-putting.

I don't have high hopes for that Alien retcon either.

It's south african slang for buddy and also a brand of bubblegum.

District 9 was so amazing (my film of the year 2009), incredibly sad to see he's spitting out flops like Elysium and now this...

I hope he gets his D9 magic back and do wonders with Alien at least.

Chappie has now surpassed Speed Racer (39%) and is fast approaching Miami Vice (47%).

Life Aquatic is underneath Elysium...?

Fuck everything

This is why we need him for the eventual Halo movie
