I honestly can't think of another anime that had a second half that shit the bed the way Gundam 00 did. Season one was amazing and had SO MUCH internet hype and "best gundam ever" mindset (myself included); and season two squandered it all away.

We talk about this every week. lol

I'll throw in my usual "season 2 went to shit" too. I thought season 1 was fine, but it wasn't shaping up to be the best Gundam ever or anything. Not even top-tier.

Man they'll put Char on anything. There's probably a Char condom that'll make you three times faster floating around somewhere.

First half of Season 1 is alright. I actually really like it. It has a ton of potential and seemed like it could have gone somewhere special, but the the Trinity siblings showed up and the show went to shit. Season 2 and the movie just continue that downward spiral into oblivion.

Char® is practically his own brand.

Everyone loves Space Hitler.
I wouldn't go that far. Char's a stand up dude till CCA, then he just goes off the rails like he didn't learn shit during his time with Kamille and Fa. Maybe if Kamille was there to punch him in the face...again he wouldn't have lost his damn mind.

First season was pretty good, but like somebody else said the introduction of the trinity siblings really foreshadowed the shit storm coming. That and best lockon being jobbed out of killing that one asshole.

Char is a manipulative asshole....BUT he does have a pretty tragic story and you can still empathise with him. "Stand up dude" is way off though.

You can emphasis with him up until the point where he wants to kill everyone on the earth.
This is true though him wanting to nuke humanity came from out of nowhere from the last time we saw him. At the end of Zeta he seemed to be at piece. After that we seem him fighting his bro Amuro on an asteroid. The fuck was that about.

He wasn't try to kill everyone on earth though. He was trying to force everyone off the planet, forcing them to live in space and become newtypes.

That doesn't work when even in this future it's shown there is still issues with people needing money like ZZ.

It's very possible that there would be people who couldn't make it off earth to abide by the stupid plan even if that was it. incalculable amount of people would die because of the plan, and this argument really doesn't justify it.

Just that everyone would die in the process or nearly everyone. Char ended up like his Messiah complex father (not that Origin had been written at that point). "Could you Earthnoids be so kind as to move out of the way of Axis?"

Hey, I'm not saying that Chars plan was a good One. I'm just saying that his goal wasn't to kill people, other than perhaps federation government workers and soldiers.

Eh I just can't agree that he wasn't trying to kill people.

His plan was just as bad as Milliardo's to kill and destroy so much that people would never want war again.

He may have wanted to end war, but when you accept that millions and millions will die to get it, your plan is just as much about killing people as the positive ending that would come from it.

No, Char knew he would kill people. He just thought the sacrifice of millions of people would be for his delusional/warped greater good.

That's a ridiculous thing to say. The guy wanted to bring catastrophe to the planet, of course he wanted people to die.

I feel like every Char discussion inevitably leads to the same place, realizing how massive a fuck up Char's Counterattack is in every respect besides animation. It's just so sad the Amuro/Char story had to end with that piece of crap that ruins Char's character for no real benefit.

CCA Char and pre-CCA Char might as well be different characters. Pre-CCA Char is a manipulative, but likable, asshole who ultimately cares about humanity and wants to push it forward. CCA Char is all of a sudden an insane, genocidal dictator with no real explanation of how we got there.

Revenge set him down a bad path and he lost to it. He was after the same thing in Beltorchika's Children. Char was always a villain. He gets his revenge in very vindictive ways in 0079. Not sure what you expected him to do with that army he was raising in Zeta.

I think Pre CCA Char can be seen as an anti hero. He's fighting against the family that distorted the views of his father, once he gets passed that he's trying to just find himself and becomes part of the AEUG to keep the earth from being polluted by war. In CCA dude just lost his way and manipulates 2 idiot newtypes on his path to nuking humanity. If I interpreted something wrong please let me know.

His very first villainous act is killing a perfectly nice guy who thought he was his friend. Sets a bad precedent.
