SimCity a disaster for you? Take a look at Cities: Skylines (not related to CitiesXL)

Well I don't know if they have changed it but last week the word was "around the time games usually release on Steam" which is 10:00 AM PST but since they turned clocks in North America already, 10:00 AM PST is actually 17:00 GMT instead of the usual 18:00 GMT. In any case, it's going to be around 17-18:00 GMT unless something changes.

At the same time when I arrive from work! Will skip fitness to play all night.

Hmm, considering all things, I'm won't be getting it at launch. Maybe after a post-launch sale of at least 50%?

I have almost always liked taking the wait-and-see approach to anything PC.

I really hope Paradox will send out the keys at a reasonable time. I decided to buy it through their store so they get all of the money, but it turned out you'll only get the key on release. If I had known that I'd gotten it directly through Steam or GMG

Seriously price is a problem here ? i found it correct for once which is not common.

I hope the popularity of the game might lead to an earlier release

you mean hope(d)

It's kind of hard to explain, as for PC games I tend to feel like full price for anything is almost always not worth it. Better to wait it out, perhaps with a patch or two down, and at a nice discount.

Nothing wrong with treating such an approach as an "always better" scenario, but I prefer to look at each case on its own basis.

With regard to Cities: Skylines, when considering scenario A: playing this game in 24 hours, and Scenario B: playing this game with an expansion and/or a couple patches and a nominal discount in 2 months, I have a very strong leaning toward the former.

*groan* Guess I'll be in the LTTP party then.

Makes sense.

Right now I'm pretty darned OK with the 2013 SimCity, though, and I've worked around the traffic issues I was having (who would have thought that I really was doing it wrong?), and I think I can live with this game which is likely to be a better one, though with its own quirks. (As far as I can see it, each have some things, good and bad, that the other doesn't.)

I understand this for bad/mediocre port of big AAA multiplat.
But why this for a solft priced game with smaller budget that seems to bring good things ?
It needs support !

I'm waiting for post-launch impressions from the general public, so...

(Good thing that should happen very soon!)

I watched some streams last night and they sold me. I'm really excited for this game and I didn't even know about until this thread. Thanks OP

Can't really watch that until much later. I take it that people have been playing for a while and it's nothing like a SimCity disaster?

This thread is as large as it is due to the large amount of streams that have been going on for a week. The impressions of which have been dominantly positive.

This is nothing like Sim City disaster. No online, everything working, the comparisson image you've seen already.

I am on the hype train since I've learned about this game like five weeks ago.
I can't wait for it.

Usually I'd be right there alongside you, I normally buy my PC games years after release like 90% of the time, I only make exceptions for the select few games that I know I'll play the literal hell out of, or for games that are priced so cheap that it's hard to not justify buying it then and there. In this case, it was both, as I pre-ordered Skylines via GMG for $21 so "full price" was ridiculously low. And I know I'll be playing this game for 100+ hours as the videos and impressions of it are far better than I could have hoped. The game looks like it's the modern city builder I've wanted for years.

I may not buy another game this entire year, but I had to buy CSL, I just couldn't justify waiting on this one.

Only speaking for myself but the Twitch streams have sold me this game. Looks like everything I wanted SC2013 to be and more.

Quill has a really long stream (now uploading in Parts to YouTube) which goes over a lot of stuff. If you're into City builders the streams can be frustrating at times watching how some other people plan their cities but I learned so much about the game and the detailed systems on how it all works.

Now that I think of it, I never make exceptions for PC games. Hmm...

Maybe I should - after I fix some technical problem with my bank account. (I use a debit card.)

Don't use a debit card on GMG! Your bank will shut the card down.

They seem to think GMG is a gambling racket, on top of being oversees. Go figure.

Oh shit what? Knocks on wood I never had problem with them via debit card use. Ordering from Europe though.

American problems.

Wait, banks have a problem with them?

Do they accept payments through PayPal?

I always use PayPal through GMG.

Huh? I've never had a problem using mine through the years. I've never heard of this issue before.

Varies by bank and region. His problem lead me to believe that he had already attempted to use GMG with his debit card.

Er, I've used my debit card on GMG several times and never had an issue? Always worked pretty seamless for me.

Cities Skylines is the Simcity 5 game we deserved. It is offline so we can save our game and experiment with things and then reload if we like. It has great mod support on day one, actually there are already mods out for it and the game hasn't even released yet. It has a traffic simulation that actually works. It has RCI indicators that don't lie to us. It has subways. CSL has city sizes that are huge compared to SC5, with mods the sizes get even larger. It has map creation tools and mod asset tools built in. And this is only the beginning of the list of CSL positives compared to SC5.

When the mod community really gets into gear with this game it is going to be bar none the best city builder ever made. It might already be the best ever made. With a few expansions I shudder with glee at the thought of what this game will eventually become. I'm glad I got it for $21 but honestly from what I've seen already I would have paid $100 for it. And I'm serious!

Looks like there's at least 1 review out there. Saw this pop up on twitter a few minutes ago.
Haven't read it yet but just about to :)

tuesday evening :(

dammit, I wanted to play during the afternoon and then play elite dangerous in the evening with my friend

So that's 2:00 EST for us on the East coast of the USA. So normal Steam unlock time. When I get home from work at 4:30 and after I download it I'll be playing, woohoo!

Is it possible to set up Steam to automatically download it at home while I'm at work? That would be sweet...

Yeah my guess is that it will still be at 1PM for East Coast since we changed time over the week-end.
