I love how he clearly isn't breaking the embargo by withholding any kind of commentary.

Ah, well, like I said, I’m not able to tell you at this point if THE GAME IS REALLY GOOD or not. So you’ll just have to continue not knowing if IT’S DEFINITELY WORTH GETTING for a couple more days.

I'd say EA knew the "backlash" from BF4 would largely blow over and fans would end up buying the game sooner rather than later. I mean, it wasn't hard to find a few examples just here on GAF of people who'd at least pledged not to buy in early only to post impressions in the Hardline OT:
Most people don't have resolve. Nothing new. I just take most stuff I read here as hyperbole or exaggerated at best. Helps me really look at things more realistic.
If I compared Bloodborne to Dark Souls and Dark Souls 2, those games would be trash.

I have yet to write my review of the game, but it will easy be a GOTY contender for me.
I just saw the launch trailer on Gamersyde - which btw people, I absolutely urge you to use for gaming media - but I think I will refrain to watch streams or other videos. Spoiling it would be a shame. I have patience.

I don't need it to be as a innovator like Demon's - which it can't be - but even if it is as good as Dark Souls 2 that would be good enough.
-
On that note. I totally forgot to write this and it got postponed a bit.

I finished Dark Souls 2. Spoilers ahead

The game is about as big as the first one despite having much more areas. This comes as the areas themselves are mostly smaller. There were weird transitions which didn't make much sense - totally unlike Dark Souls 1 - but I could forgive them as during playing the game it didn't take me out (I didn't even notice them very far in).

From made some very good changes here. I have to laud them for that. Being able to go human at any point, health items, magic items, the revamped UI. All of them brilliant. I understood that even more after I started up Dark Souls 1 immediately after Dark Souls 2. Wow, the UI seems so unintuitive compared. The Co-Op part also feels much better as you can be summoned even when going very far from your sign (which totally hurts DS1 imo). Technically I find it astounding how much FromSoftware improved from their first game. Really, the technical department of From gets to little praise for that. The game runs so well, it's crazy. Bodes very well for
inevitable
sequels.

Visually the game obviously has more to offer but I feel the torch mechanic wasn't as fully realized as it could have been. Having areas which absolutely force you to forgo shields in favor of torch would have made some pretty unique and tense moments but alas it was just a little gimmick I totally forgot after the first couple hours.
About the areas again. It feels a bit disjointed at some points but it was still fun to go from a pirate-themed area to a castle-themed one. It was fun, so I can overlook that.

There is a big part which disappointed me though which I can't forgive that easily. The bosses. There were generally speaking more bosses than ever but the majority felt like stronger regular enemies. Humans with lots of damage and health. That's not bad on its own but it was like this in just too many cases. I missed memorable bosses like the Gaping Dragon, Manus, Priscilla, Gwyndolin. Instead there were tons of sword-wielding human(oid) enemies like Throne Watcher/Defender, Dragonriders, Ruin Sentinels and even much worse, total rehashes like Bell Gargoyles, Sif and others. Very lame indeed. The ones that stood out were not that great either; Old Iron King, Nashandra, Ancient Dragon (most satisfying imo). I also feel they went a bit to overboard with taking influences from O&S - arguably the fan favorites from DS1. Too many dual bosses. I found O&S so memorable because they were the only boss fight with multiple bosses at once. In DS2 there were so many it just lost its uniqueness. Generally lazy boss design.

That would be my biggest complaint with the game. All other things I could forgive as the game itself was still fun but the bosses just have to be special for me.

That said, I still can totally recommend Dark Souls 2 to anyone - especially Souls veterans. It plays great and is a lot of fun which really counts.

Even after 130 hours I have the urge to go back at it. I still don't have the DLC, so there will be at least 20 hours to come on top of that :)
Sins version should lead to a temporary extremely cheap Season Pass (5 bucks), so I am eagerly waiting.

I haven't uploaded any screens from my playthrough on Steam, so be prepared to see a couple hundred later on in your activity feeds :)
I also think this will be my first Steam Review as well :)

Freedom Planet- you can lower the music volume, but not the sound effects. :(

Can you use the d-pad for movement over the analog stick?

An epiphany hath struck me: I shall grab Dark Souls 1 once it goes for $5 or less and then finally trade off my PS3 copy. Well it isn't mine mine; my brother blindly bought it along with Batman: AC but hasn't played neither since he bought them, and since I game mostly on my lappy nowadays...

I don't think Obsidian is going to give him a lot of crap for telling people to buy the game. lol

Well yeah, I get that much. :) But is that the general practice for embargoes? "If you think it's good, don't imply it, wink wink, but if not, shut up or the hammer comes down?"

Serious Sam is a wicked gahbidge series for chowdaheads.

1) It appears to be a girlfriend proposing to a boyfriend in that photo, so I'll take it as her attempting to connect with him and a hobby he has or they both share, which is a lot sweeter than my assumed inverse, an out-of-touch boyfriend forcing his man-baby hobby on his poor partner.

2) Still, don't do this.

Decided to start up Depths of Peril. Starts out like a single-player MMO with Diablo elements - you can get randomized loot that you have to identify before you can use, you talk to people in town, get quests, etc. - but there also seemed to be some Civilization elements in that your faction is competing with other NPC-run factions. Didn't quite figure out what that means, until...

Tutorial guy tells me to get quests from the other people in town as a quest in and of itself. So I go do that. One person tells me to go to the forest, and defeat monsters to collect 6 pottery shards. You know, bog-standard MMO stuff. I start doing that, I've collected 3 shards...then it tells me I failed the quest because some NPC collected 6 shards before I did.

...And then I quit the game. I couldn't even process what had just happened. Has ANYONE ever wished for a single-player game that simulates quest-item ninja looters?

Obviously, someone has.

I guess I would fit the bill for that, though I didn't realise it at first. Think I have over 100+ hours poured into DoP over the years.

It's an interesting loot game, and I (eventually) enjoyed the extra mechanics of competing with an AI that has the same tasks as you. Gives an extra push to get tasks done first. It took awhile to get use to the fact that if you fail tasks here and there it isn't really a big deal.

I think the real draw for me with the other covenants (AI) was forming alliances with one, and then working on eliminating the others (3-6 others) until there was only 1 left and declaring war on them as well. ("There can only be one!")

There is some interesting options while dealing with the other AI, you can barter for favour, align with other covenants, start rumours to change influence, declare war, or raid their bases (house) in town to eliminate them. They can upgrade their bases, as can you, so you need to evaluate when to strike; when they are first starting out, or when you have more power to do so. It's not deep, but reasonably well done. Enough for me to be interested in it anyway.

I think it makes it more than just a standard loot game, and it's a mechanic I hope they revisit in their future games.

Their subsequent game Din's curse and it's expansion drop this mechanic and focus more on being a loot game (though they do add other mechanics that improve over DoP).

I don't really need a tag, but I figured I'd get one to make people jealous. Is it working?
You guys like overly ambitious physics based action RPGs by first timer indie developers, right? Maybe remember a little Kickstarter called Sui Generis?

They've just put a vertical slice style game demo called Exanima up on Greenlight and it needs some votes.

A little something from their backer email that I liked.

But we've often described ours as "world first design", what we want above all else is a world that feels real and is incredibly dynamic with an unprecedented potential for emergent behaviour. This includes complete interactivity, realistic and functional behaviours, meaning attributed to every single thing, AI making real decisions rather than following rigid scripts, physics, lighting and basically just everything being part of a real functional world rather than being symbolic of it.

This little bit was my favorite part from an alpha video back in Nov 2013--Abusing the teleport spell to drop a dude off the ramparts. Fair fights are for people who don't know magic.

You know, I think that a gaffer works at Amazon France and he secretly plops those listings on the site just so he can see the meltdowns and threads and everything.

I remember January 2nd 2015, when I created a beautiful spreadsheet on Google Docs for the 52 games in a year challenge.

But then I installed Dolphin to play Xenoblade Chronicles.

And then Cities: Skylines happened.

V4HLS0u.png

Oh well, I could still run for the 10 games in a year challenge, maybe.

Also I'm kinda glad I'm unemployed ATM.

But it's not like Cities: Skylines is helping me finding a job, anyway... :'(

Oh, you are also a runner up for the 10 games a year challenge? I already managed to beat 2! xd

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.
Don't worry guys. I got bloodborne but i'll still be in the steam thread.

Don't worry guys. I've been playing Final Fantasy Type-0 HD for a week but i'll still be in the steam thread.

What about AC games?

Bizarrely I've only manages 5 or so hours in Rogue. Though I did put in a shift in Unity when they patched out the Companion App unlock requirements as well as another 10 hours in Watch Dogs just mucking about. Did I ever tell you guys I like Watch Dogs?

An Evil Within/Bloodborne DLC crossover would be cool. Never happen, but it would be.

I'm tempted to pick up a PS4, but I know that we'll get a Bloodborne GOTY edition down the line. I'm old. Too old to wait for things. But I'm also broke.
